The Christmas That Never Was

Millenniums before the birth of Christ,
begging prayers of relief were asked,
From death, servitude and torture.
In the hearts of the humble many,
righteous anger boiled from kings who basked

With the despised work from those whose blood would pour.

Seeking an answer from God was the humbles only relief
From an un-promised future and daily grief.

A dismal present and not greater future
Was the peasant's only nurture.

Many prayed for death to take them away
From daily disgust and from kings who held sway

Over every life, whose life was nothing more
Than animals serving with an unthankful chore.

Modern times have rarely experienced, the daily life of recorded history
Of those who saw Jesus' words as life's truth to see,

Many more have, within the framework of life, failed to see
Yet an answer to faith in God is constantly with those
who desire to be free.

One day an answer was made known and did arise
With Jesus' birth, yet His answer man did despise.

"Forsaking all to seek and find God was His teaching,"
Exampled with His own life, He went forth preaching.

From what little humanity did have,
here was God's Son telling them -
To forsake even that? This was not their answer
and decided Him to condemn.

So, crucified, stability of societies was needed,
Remorse, of a sort, prevailed with blind eyes
to what should have been heeded.

Some disbelieved Jesus, and after His demise,
sought for another whose answer would suffice,

To supply an answer their way, and not God's so continued in their daily sacrifice,
To mortal kings. And daily things.

Others who thought Him king, devised their own way of belief,
To bring salvation and relief.

To honor with lips, never mind the body, soul and heart,
That should have been turned over to God, for salvation to start.

Many centuries passing by, with little changing,
regardless of a life's truth
To pattern a celebration to honor Jesus
but their lives gave no proof

Of Jesus' words as He taught
And only what they thought.

This celebration called Christmas, only honored His birth
Yet His words were dismissed, which, containing all truth.

Only supplanted by traditions without understanding
That which would save and free souls, so together they banded.

Picking and choosing, humankind decided
To tell God how to save them, as they have derided

The words of Jesus' for few have learned
Of His words - so many have burned.

"What?" you say, "All my Christmases have been wrong?"
Yes, my friend, this type of celebration never belonged,

In God's plan for us for two thousand years -
And you wonder why you still shed tears?

"I give and give," and you say, "That's not enough?"
God answers and says,
"But what of your life? Is that a bit rough?

Was not my only Son's life and words not your answer? I apologize.
Perhaps you should be God then I would realize

That your respect is more worthy than of Me."
So continue with life and despair, my friend, maybe you will see

That your celebrations are empty and devoid
Of God's honor and truth of which you constantly void.

Listen to others, if you will, whose smooth words comfort
Your daily grind of life, mortal leaders whom you court.

So your prayers are answered in full, you say?
They are temporary fixes by an evil that holds sway

Over your soul until you're passing by in and of this life
So. This way is honored by man that causes no strife?

Your answer that was conceived by you and that not of God's words
Will be paid in full with your soul, of that you DO have God's word.

Since His birth two thousand years ago, His words have gone unheeded
From many who wanted but not what was needed.

Adults give love gifts and children hope in Santa Claus
For millenniums, all celebrate the Christmas

that never was.
