.... Question I think it starred Lana Turner and Natalie Wood. The story goes: 2 women meet on a beach, one black one white. Lana turner was an out of work actress, with a daughter. The black woman also had a daughter of mixed race. The black woman and her daughter go to live with Turner to be her maid. The black daughter grows up ashamed of her mother, her colour and race. In the end, the black mother eventually dies with the daughter regretting how she has treated her mother... very very very sad: cried for days at this film and would love to find it again. Does anyone know the title?

It wasn't Natalie Wood. It was Sandra Dee. Susan Kohner played the daughter of Juanita Moore. Susan Kohner looked a little like Natalie Wood, and was about the same age, so that was probably why you thought that she was in it.

to Lash and Phoenix... Very Happy thank you a million times. Have a cyber bouquet of flowers from my sister for giving us this information.
Out of utter desparation of ploughing through countless web sites for Lana Turner and Natalie Wood films, I landed on this brilliant forum.
My sister saw this film only once, nearly 30 years ago, whilst she was baby-sitting as a teenager. Apparently she was still sobbing her heart out when the parents came home.!! Rolling Eyes She's been trying to remember the film's name ever since. We actually saw this film's title in the Lana Turner websites, but didn't connect it to the story-line. Rolling Eyes So, eternal thanks once again.. Merry Christmas to you..

Very Happy

"Imitation of Life" is near the top of the list of what were called "four handkerchief" movies, which were popular in the 40's -early 60's. I was older when I saw that film, but I cried my eyes out too.

New today. A person on a plane and I were discussing movies of yesteryear. Her favorite, she couldn't remember the name of it, but said it was with Natalie Wood and Lana Turner. I think she must have been thinking of this cause it's the right story.
I guess I should find her and tell her it's the wrong actress playing the part.

thanks for the welcome Phoenix.....
now someone please verify that it isn't Imitation of Life that features NW and LT? But, apparently I need to see it anyway.

On yet another movie, anyone ever see the original Yearling? << Starring Gregory Peck?
Now, 'that's' a tearjerker
