And gathering up the wilful subtance that had once been his brain,
He cried lackaday at you wondrous new country people in the US.
For we notwithstanding our meritous position as mother ship,
Do duly give thou our most humble thanks for that benevolence,
Which thou has daned to grant us with thine use of the vernacular, yet seemingly welcoming quips and quiddities ensuant therefrom.

or

Thanks

You're velcome!

and speaking of vernacular, here's some South of the Mason-Dixon line speak for ya:

Yawl come--
Yawl come--
Yawl come to see us when ya Ca-yun

Yawl come--
Yawl come--
Oh, yawl come ta see us now and then.

Or more specifically in East Virginia--

Lawd, dahlin', it all depends on how the weatha is.
(my Mama) or in some cases: Yo Mama Laughing

Yall too kind here's a gift from me of one of my all time favourites from Anne Sexton, I do so hope yall like it:-

Just once I knew what life was for.
In Boston, quite suddenly, I understood;
walked there along the Charles River,
watched the lights copying themselves,
all neoned and strobe-hearted, opening
their mouths as wide as opera singers;
counted the stars, my little campaigners,
my scar daisies, and knew that I walked my love
on the night green side of it and cried
my heart to the eastbound cars and cried
my heart to the westbound cars and took
my truth across a small humped bridge
and hurried my truth, the charm of it, home
and hoarded these constants into morning
only to find them gone.

".....watched the lights copying themselves...."

The entire poem is so lovely, that like Whitman's, "The learned Astronomer", I will just look at it in "perfect quietness".

I like that Sexton poem very much.
I have been reading about her lately. Her life story is very interesting but sad.

Do you know Boston? She is talking about 'The Esplanade' alongside the Charles River. I believe I know the small humped bridge she refers to. If I had a picture of it I'd post it for you.

Jorge and Letty,

Thank you oh so much.

I am a closet poet and for years have been in awe of the troubled talent of Anne Sexton, her life was very sad.

If you're inclined you can hear her voice speaking one of her most famous poems at:-

http://www.poets.org/booth/AudioSource.cfm?prmID=126

just click on hear the poem read by the author

You can feel the tortured soul !

...and a happy heart to you, too, Jackie. Your versifying was delightful and quite good, I might add. A2K is a neat forum, no? I don't remember you from Abuzz, sorry to say. Give me a hint.

It is ok Letty-

A number, more than a name, and not much of that, in Abuzz. I am a reader more than a PUBLIC Writer.
Some persons, I follow more than others, ESPECIALLY, the poetry lovers.

I am kind of a private girl, from the midwest, and LOVE the east. Ahhh maybe someday.

Thank you for the compliment. Your talents and versifying leave many of us lacking....

I like Able2know. It is much better than having to read through the MUCK abuzz has become.

Jackie, like E.A. Robinson, I am big on compression. "Richard Cory" is one of my favorite poems.

Hey, gal. Keep at it. A private person is the very one who can produce.

My older sister; a friend and former piano player in our Jazz group, and I, sat down one day and wrote a country song in around ten minutes..I still laugh at our end result. The title was "Don't Get Above Your Raisin'" Laughing

Her Kind is lovely.
I had read it before and liked it but it was a treat to hear the poet herself.

Jackie

I have been reading instructions about changing fonts and colors and I am NO furthur than I was, thinking of forgetting it.

jjorge- not until Abuzz lays down and turns to nothing, will I say the bit I did there- Rolling Eyes
You would go back and search it....(ain't worth it) GOOD ENGLISH- HUH?

Letty, in rereading my post to you, it does not sound right- (sighing with embarassment)... it should have read: Your qualitites of speech, writing and wit, leave the REST of us appearing to 'lack'....sure hope you know I meant it that way.

jjorge- I have read some of yours in Abuzz- and will read more. You are an excellent poet!

Say....this thing works. Well Great.

Friends indeed we have here found
And in such a community of secure
yet pleasing discourse and solitude
can we open our hearts at least a little
and peering out see the soul of others
as they unfold their writings for us
to share in such a quiet place as this
a place away from life's sufferings
We call it home and so it is
