Someone explain this to me please.
I went to the network tools and clicked on ping. A page come up that read Network-Tools.com
Ok......so, I decide to play with it and see what happens. So I pinged...and got an IP Addie that didn't belong to me.
I traced and got the same addie again.
So what does that mean? Is that someone that is using my IP Addie for thier own pleasure. Is that a hacker breaking into my comp? I went totally blonde on this one...someone know?
There is a text field below the "ping" and "Traceroute" radio buttons for you to enter an address into. When you select "Ping" it pings whatever address is in that window.
Ping and traceroute don't give you an address. they either ping or trace the route to the IP adress you provide them.
Convert Base-10 to IP
Note: Many registrars block whois queries from this site due to the large volume of requests

Ok, so I took an IP Addie that was listed and put it in there, and this is what I got...whats it mean? lol
It is a listing of router IP addresses/names between the server at network-tools.com and the IP address you entered (if you used the default then the IP address is what the server sees as your address)
66.98.244.1 gphou-66-98-244-1.ev1.net is their server starting pint. "66.98.244.1" is the server's IP address, "gphou-66-98-244-1.ev1.net " is the server's name.
68.88.181.26 arkansas-i-net-dba-worldlynx-1069000.cust-rtr.swbell.net is the final address, the one you entered or it defaulted to. In this case, assuming this is your IP address, you use Arkansas Inet who is doing business as World Lynx and they lease lines from SW Bell.
All of the addresses in between are the addresses of the Internet nodes between those two. For someone famaliar with network node locations it reads like a roadmap.
