Well, Raggedy, once again you have saved the day with your pictures. Great ones, PA. I haven't read through Leontyne Price's bio, but I remember her as a fantastic opera star. Need to check that out, I guess.

And so I did, listeners. My word the woman was not only a metropolitan soprano, but starred in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.

WOW!

"Bess you is My Woman Now" is fabulous and boy can a tenor sax wail that one

Hey when I'm not listening to Radio WA2K, I read a book sometimes. I have just read two books by Michael Connolly. Detective crime stories. Very good, masterly. Recommended.

Yes. If you read my first sentence, I saw her and William Warfield in Porgy and Bess and hadn't realized that they were a twosome. Very Happy

Ah, McTag, one may read a book and listen to our little radio station at the same time, Brit.<smile>

UhOh, Raggedy, when I get a song in my head like "Bess", I become a zombie. Sorry, honey.

This one is for edgar:

. : Harry Belafonte - BESS YOU IS MY WOMAN : .

Bess ,you is my woman now
You is, you is
And you must laugh and sing and dance
For two instead of one
Want no wrinkle on your brow
No how
Because de sorrow of de past is all done done
Oh Bess, My Bess. The real happiness has just begun

Porgy I am your woman now
I is, I is!
And I ain't never going nowhere unless you shares the fun
There's no wrinkle on my brow
No how
But I ain't going! You hear me saying
If you ain't going, with you I'm staying

Porgy I'm yo' woman now
I'm yours forever
Morning time and evening time
Summer time and winter time

Morning time and evening time and
Summertime and winter time

Bess, you is my woman now and forever
This life is just begun
Bess, we two are one
Now and forever
Oh Bess , don't min' dose women
You got yo' Porgy
We'll go swinging
Trough the years a singing
Morning time and evening time and
Summer time and winter time

Morning time and evening time and
Summer time and winter time
Oh my Porgy my man Porgy
My Bess, My Bess

From this minute I'm telling you
I keep this vow: Porgy I'm yours now

From this minute I'm telling you
I keep this vow
Oh my Bessie, we is happy now. We are one now

In my modest opinion William Warfield did in that film the best rendition of Ole Man River I ever heard.

The weathermaid has just returned, and it is absolutely beautiful in my little corner of the world.

What a view coming over the intercoastal waterway bridge.

Made me feel so much better.

Who wants to hear the Rock Island Line? Razz

Hey everyone! Just a little pick me up for the lonely boys away from home.

B. r. hornsby

Way out here, working on the docks
Everyone sees the long day through
Well what would I do without the nights
And the phone
And the chance just to talk to you
A thousand miles away
What I wouldn't give for only one night
A little relief in sight
Or someday when times weren't so tight

When the day goes down on the
Water town
When the sun sinks low all around
That's when I know I need you now
You're what I miss
Every little kiss

Everybody here's a number, not a name
But I guess that's all right with me
As I sit alone after a long day
In the absence of company
Oh I let my mind wander...
A thousand miles away
What I wouldn't give for only one night
A little relief in sight
Or someday when times weren't so tight

When the day goes down on the
Water town
When the sun sinks low all around
That's when I know I need you now
You're what I miss
Every little kiss

Artist: Shedaisy Lyrics
Song: Come Home Soon Lyrics

I put away the groceries
And I take my daily bread
I dream of your arms around me
As I tuck the kids in bed

I don't know what you're doin'
And I don't know where you are
But I look up at that great big sky
And I hope you're wishin' on that same
bright star

I wonder, I pray

[Chorus:]
And I sleep alone
I cry alone
And it's so hard livin' here on my own
So please, come home soon
(Come home soon)

I know that we're together
Even though we're far apart
And I'll wear our lucky penny 'round my neck
Pressed to my heart

I wonder, I pray

[Repeat Chorus]

[Bridge:]
I still imagine your touch
It's beautiful missing something that much
But sometimes love needs a fighting chance
So I'll wait my turn until it's our turn to dance

I wonder, I pray

[Second Chorus:]
I sleep alone
I cry alone
Without you this house is not a home
So please, come home soon

[Third Chorus:]
I walk alone
I try alone
I'll wait for you, don't want to die alone
So please, come home soon

Come home soon
Come home soon

Ah, shari, those are beautiful songs, honey. Would that the mere melody could accomplish that miracle. Thank you for reminding us of our boys.

Well, folks. I don't hear anyone clambering for The Rock Island Line, so maybe Walter will play it for us anyway.

Jerry Mac's Tribute To Minnie Pearl
Written By Jerry Mac on March 5, 1996 (The day after Minnie died)

I was a child of the forties

Sitting around that big old radio

With my dear mama and daddy

Listening to the opry show.

I remember hearing HOWDEEEEE

As friendly as I ever heard;

And, oh, how we laughed on Saturday nights

To the jokes of sweet Minnie Pearl

Her real name was Sarah Cannon,

But we knew her as Minnie Pearl.

In her private life she was great,

Helping people throughout the world

She was friends with more presidents

Than most of us have ever seen,

But she loved the real common folks.

She was truly the opry queen

Minnie was an entertainer

And a character loved by all,

And you have to think of her ole straw hat

When you think of the Ryman Hall.

She was just so proud to be here

And we were so proud to have her,

The young lady from Grinders Switch.

She was country music's real pearl.

Minnie, I'm just someone who's real thankful

For being on this earth with you.

Other great ladies will follow,

But none will ever fill your Mary Jane shoes.

You were queen of the Grand Ole Opry

For forty years and more,

And you took our hearts with you,

When you walked through heaven's door.

Yes! Minnie, you're gone from us now,

But you left sweet memories behind.

We will never forget you, Mam.

You will forever be on our mind

Edgar, what a nice tribute, Texas. Didn't Minnie always wear a hat with a price tag on it? Wow! I gotta check that out.

So Long Marianne
Come over to the window, my little darling,
I'd like to try to read your palm.
I used to think I was some kind of Gypsy boy
before I let you take me home.
Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began
to laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again.

Well you know that I love to live with you,
but you make me forget so very much.
I forget to pray for the angels
and then the angels forget to pray for us.

Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ...

We met when we were almost young
deep in the green lilac park.
You held on to me like I was a crucifix,
as we went kneeling through the dark.

Oh so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ...

Your letters they all say that you're beside me now.
Then why do I feel alone?
I'm standing on a ledge and your fine spider web
is fastening my ankle to a stone.

Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ...

For now I need your hidden love.
I'm cold as a new razor blade.
You left when I told you I was curious,
I never said that I was brave.

Oh so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ...

Oh, you are really such a pretty one.
I see you've gone and changed your name again.
And just when I climbed this whole mountainside,
to wash my eyelids in the rain!

Oh so long, Marianne, it's time that we began ...
