Sabu Dastagir
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Sabu Dastagir (January 27, 1924 - December 2, 1963) was a motion picture actor known by his first name, Sabu.

Born in Mysore, India, he was the son of an Indian Mahout (elephant driver) and was discovered by documentary film-maker Robert Flaherty who cast him in the role of an elephant driver in the 1937 British film Elephant Boy, based on a story from Kipling's The Jungle Book.

Most reference books have his full name as "Sabu Dastigir", but research by journalist Philip Liebfried suggests that was his brother's name, and that Sabu was in fact Selar Shaik Sabu.

Sabu is remembered most fondly for his role as Abu in the Hollywood film The Thief of Bagdad. In 1942 he once again played a role based on Kipling, namely Mowgli in Jungle Book directed by Zoltán Korda.

Airforce career

After becoming an American citizen in 1944, Sabu joined the U.S Army Air Force as a tail gunner. He flew several dozen missions over the Pacific and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his valor and bravery.

Personal life

Sabu married actress Marilyn Cooper in 1948, with whom he had two children and with whom he remained until his passing in 1963. He died in Chatsworth, California of a heart attack and was interred in the Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery.

His son Paul Sabu established the rock band Sabu in the 1980s. His daughter Jasmine Sabu was an animal trainer on various films. She died in 2001.

Troy Donahue
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Troy Donahue (born January 27, 1936 in New York City; died September 2, 2001 in Santa Monica, California) was an American actor, known for being a teen idol.

Merle Johnson Jr. was initially a journalism student at Columbia University before he decided to become an actor in Hollywood, where he was represented by Rock Hudson's agent, Henry Willson. According to Robert Hofler's 2005 biography, "The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson: The Pretty Boys and Dirty Deals of Henry Willson," Willson tried out the name Troy on Rory Calhoun and James Darren, with no success, before it finally stuck to Donahue. The blond heartthrob made a name for himself with uncredited roles in The Monolith Monsters (1957) and Man Afraid (1957); leading to larger parts in several films, including Monster on the Campus (1958), Live Fast, Die Young (1958), and opposite fellow teen idol Sandra Dee in A Summer Place (1959). He signed a contract with Warner Bros., and he met actress Suzanne Pleshette on the set of Rome Adventure. They married in 1964 but divorced later that year.

After the release of My Blood Runs Cold (1965), Donahue's contract with Warner Bros. ended. This also began Troy's downward slide, as he struggled to find new roles and he had problems with drug addiction and alcoholism. He married again in 1966, to actress Valerie Allen, and they divorced in 1968. In 1970 he starred in the drama The Secret Storm.

He spent his last few years with his fiancée, mezzo-soprano Zheng Cao. He eventually died of a heart attack in 2001.

Mimi Rogers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Mimi Rogers (born Miriam Spickler, January 27, 1956 in Coral Gables, Florida) is an American movie actress and competitive poker player.

Her breakthrough role was opposite Tom Berenger in Someone to Watch Over Me (1987). Since then, her career has largely been focused on independent films, most notably the controversial Rapture (1991). Although she continues to do independent films, Rogers is certainly not averse to Hollywood. She has appeared in sci-fi films such as Lost in Space (1998), as well as the cult television series The X-Files (1998-99). She also appeared as the mother of Elizabeth Hurley's character in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997). Somewhat infamous for her voluptuous physique, possibly her most titillating role was in Full Body Massage (1995) in which she was fully nude for most of the film.

Her father was Jewish and a Holocaust survivor, while her mother was Christian. However, Rogers has become a member of the Church of Scientology, and in fact her father is now a minister of Scientology as well.

Her first husband was Jim Rogers; they were married from 1977 until 1980. Her second husband was actor Tom Cruise; they were married from 1987 until 1990. She is presently involved with producer Chris Ciaffa; they have two children, Lucy and Charles.

She took up competitive poker in 2003, and finished in the money in her first major tournament at the World Poker Tour's 240 player Shooting Stars main event No-Limit Texas hold 'em tournament in San Jose, California on March 4, 2004. She is also in the board of directors of the World Poker Tour.

---Comedian George Carlin's wife recently passed away.

The gross and mouthy icon of the 70's and 80's has
written something very eloquent...and so very
appropriate for these times.

A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have
taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways,
but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy
less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families, more
conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge,
but less
judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more
medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too
recklessly, laugh too
little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too
late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too
much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our
values.

We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.

We've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have
trouble
crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.

We conquered outer space but not inner space.

We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.

We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.

We write more, but learn less.

We plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned to rush, but not to wait.

We build more computers to hold more information, to
produce more
copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion,
big men and
small character, steep profits and shallow
relationships.

These are the days of two incomes but more divorce,
fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers,
throwaway
morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and
pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to
kill...

It is a time when there is much in the showroom window
and nothing in the stockroom.

A time when technology can bring this letter to you,
and a time when you can choose either to share this
insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones,
because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to your little children who
look up to
you, because they will soon grow up and leave your
side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you,
because that is the only treasure you can give with
your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and
your loved ones, but most of all "mean it".

A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes
from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for
someday that
person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time
to share the
precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the
moments that take our breath away.

If you don't send this to at least 8 people...who
cares? GEORGE
CARLIN

You finished, Boston? Cause I know most of your celebs, but NOT the background.

I think Carlin is fabulous and it's where I learned to love the word "stuff".

WOW! I just discovered that Paul Sabu did the rock songs for WKRP in Cincinnati.

I'm not certain if this is one of his songs, but I am certain someone will tell me if it is not, folks:

Heart - Call of The Wild Lyrics
After midnight
I call you
Even though I know better
I just got to
The moon is full
My heart is hot
And you know what I?m longing to do
With this aching I got

The call of the wild
Oh baby, can?t you hear me calling
Oooh...
The call of the wild
The call of the wild

How can you ask me
Why I?m pushing pushing
When you know damn well
What you do
What you do to a woman
I get so inspired
Lying so close
It?s the flash and the flame and the lever
I need the most

The call of the wild
Oh baby, can?t you hear me calling
Oooh...
The call of the wild
The call of the wild

If I could chain you to me
I?d do it in a minute
My magic caravan
Baby you?d be in it
I?m hiding the prize and you?re gonna win it
You?re gonna win it now

The call of the wild
Oh baby, can?t you hear me calling
Oooh
The call of the wild
Oooh
The call of the wild
Oooh
Oh baby
Listen to me howling

The call of the wild

Could be, folks, since hid PaPa was raised by wolves.

dj : just found your entry on "stompin tom" - thanks !
while i'm not particularly fond of western style music, stompin tom is imo such a great individual and artist . i don't think there is anyone else out there with his style - must be a canadian thing.
whenever i hear his songs, i feel as if i'm right in the middle of whatever he sings about . it's also great to actually hear his voice and know what he is singing about - i think he is like a balladier of the olden days : he tells a story !
i've even been known to sing and hum along ! hbg

it's too quiet for Mozart's 250th, and Lewis Carroll's for good measure. so here's something festive by Bob Marley. Cool

Ooh, yeah! All right!
We're jammin':
I wanna jam it wid you.
We're jammin', jammin',
And I hope you like jammin', too.

Ain't no rules, ain't no vow, we can do it anyhow:
I'n'I will see you through,
'Cos everyday we pay the price with a little sacrifice,
Jammin' till the jam is through.

We're jammin' -
To think that jammin' was a thing of the past;
We're jammin',
And I hope this jam is gonna last.

No bullet can stop us now, we neither beg nor we won't bow;
Neither can be bought nor sold.
We all defend the right; Jah - Jah children must unite:
Your life is worth much more than gold.

We're jammin' (jammin', jammin', jammin')
And we're jammin' in the name of the Lord;
We're jammin' (jammin', jammin', jammin'),
We're jammin' right straight from Yah.

Yeh! Holy Mount Zion;
Holy Mount Zion:
Jah sitteth in Mount Zion
And rules all creation.

Yeah, we're - we're jammin' (wotcha-wa),
Wotcha-wa-wa-wa, we're jammin' (wotcha-wa),
See, I wanna jam it wid you
We're jammin' (jammin', jammin', jammin')
I'm jammed: I hope you're jammin', too.

Jam's about my pride and truth I cannot hide
To keep you satisfied.
True love that now exist is the love I can't resist,
So jam by my side.

We're Jammin' (jammin', jammin', jammin'), yeah-eah-eah!
I wanna jam it wid you.
We're jammin', we're jammin', we're jammin', we're jammin',
We're jammin', we're jammin', we're jammin', we're jammin';
Hope you like jammin', too.
We're jammin', we're jammin' (jammin'),
We're jammin', we're jammin' (jammin').
I wanna (I wanna jam it wid you) - I wanna -
I wanna jam wid you now.
Jammin', jammin' (hope you like jammin' too).
Eh-eh! I hope you like jammin', I hope you like jammin',
'Cause (I wanna jam it wid you). I wanna... wid you.
I like - I hope you - I hope you like jammin', too.
I wanna jam it;
I wanna jam it.

here is another of stompin tom's songs that i relly enjoy. it's about "big joe mufferaw" , the lumberman working the waters. hbg
----------------------------------------------------------

Heave Hi Heave Hi Ho-the best man in Ottawa was Mufferaw Joe...Mufferaw Joe.
Big Joe Mufferaw paddled into Mattawa all the way from Ottawa in just one day-hey hey-
All the river Ottawa the best man we ever saw was big Joe Mufferaw the old folks sayeeeh
Come listen and I'll tell ya what the old folks say...
Yeah they say big Joe had an old pet frog, bigger than a horse and he barked like a dog-
And the only thing quicker than a train upon a track was big joe ridin on the bullfrog's
back-
Heave Hi Heave Hi Ho-the best man in Ottawa was Mufferaw Joeeeeh...Mufferaw Joe....
Yeah they said big Joe used to get real wet from cuttin down timber and workin up a
sweat
And everyone'll tell ya around Carlton place the Mississippi dripped off of big Joe's face.
Hey Hi heave Hi ho ....the best...
Now Joe had to portage from the Gatineau down to see a little girl he had in Kempville
town
He was back and forth so many times to see that gal the path he wore became the Rideau
canal
Heave Hi Heave Hi Ho-the best man in Ottawa...
Play intro again:
Big Joe Mufferaw paddled into Mattawa all the way from Ottawa in just one day, hey hey
etc.
Yeah they say big Joe put out a forest fire halfway between Renfrew and old Arnprior
He was 50 Miles away down around Smith Falls when he drowned out the fire with 5 spit
balls.
Hey hi Heave Hi Ho-the best man in Ottawa was Mufferaw Joe...
Well he jumped in the Calabogie L. real fast & he swam both ways to catch a cross-eyed
bass.
But he threw it on the ground & said "I can't eat that," So he covered it over with Mount
St.Pat
Hey Hi Heave hi ho-
Yeah they say Big Joe drank a bucket of gin and he beat the livin tar out of 29 men-
And High on the ceilin of a Pembroke Club there's 29 boot marks and they're signed"with
love".
Hey've Hi He hi ho...
INTRO again
hey've hi he hi ho....
Big Joe Mufferaw. Big Joe Mufferaw...End
---------------------------------------------------------
we've visited many of the places mentioned in the song - camping and fighting of mosquitoes, blackflies and no-see-ums. i guess that makes it so special to me. hbg

As long as we're on the subject of lumberjacks who could forget the famous Monty Oythin Lumberjack Song?

Lumberjack Song
Monty Python's Flying Circus, Series 1, Show 6

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

(A small chorus of Canadian
mounties now join in the singing.)

He's a lumberjack and he's OK,
He sleeps all night and works all day.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch,
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping,
And have buttered scones for tea.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

He's a lumberjack and he's OK,
He sleeps all night and works all day.

He cuts down trees, eats his lunch,
Goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he goes shopping,
And has buttered scones for tea.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

He's a lumberjack and he's OK,
He sleeps all night and works all day.

I cut down trees, I skip and jump,
I like to press wild flowers,
I put on women's clothing,
And hang around in bars..

He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps,
He likes to press wild flowers,
He put on women's clothing,
And hang around in bars?!.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

He's a lumberjack and he's OK,
He sleeps all night and works all day.

I cut down trees, I wear high heels,
Suspenders and a bra,
I wish I were a girlie,
Just like my dear papa.

He cuts down trees, he wears...high heels?
Suspenders...and a bra?
He wants to be a girlie,
Just like his dear papa????

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

He's a lumberjack and he's OKaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay,
He sleeps all night and works all day.

sorry, nick !
no such luxuries for a canadian lumberjack !
he'll go into the bush , watch the poison ivy !!! - not even an outhouse available.
flapjacks in stead of scones !
but he can dream, can't he ? hbg

and the winner is? Yit with his babe in the city.

Which leads us to another song:

Artist: Joe Cocker Lyrics
Song: Summer In The City Lyrics

Hot town summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirt and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk hotter than a match head

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat it will be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
The days can't be like the night
In the summer in the city
In the summer in the city

Cool town, evening in the city
Dressed so fine and looking so pritty
Cool cat lookin for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
Till I'm weezin like a bus stop
Running up the stairs gonna meet ya on the roof top

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on lets dance all night
Despite the heat it will be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
The days can't be like the night
In the summer in the city
In the summer in the city

Solo

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on lets dance all night
Despite the heatit will be alright
And babe don't you know it's a pity
The days can't be like the night
In the summer in the city
In the summer in the city

Hot town summer in the city

This is for Yit, 'cause he won:

There's a full time reservation
Made in a bar at the railway station.
And there's a story, a kind of fable,
On a card at the corner table.
On it is a message, been there some time.
It starts off, "The coffee tasted so fine"
It says, "One day, this may find you,
These few words may just remind you.
We sat here together just to pass time,
You said how the coffee tasted so fine."
It goes on to say, "I love you.
If you should find this I must hear from you."
It gives a number but the name has faded away.
All that is left are just the words, "Maybe someday"
That's the story and the fable,
Never leave alone from a corner table.
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo,
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo, doo doo.

And this is for Reyn, 'cause he runs.

Wherever you are

Artist: Tweak
Song: Wherever you are

go near
go far
I'm with you wherever you are
When times get hard
Be with you wherever you are

Tonight you and I
We're wishing on the same stars
It's true
That I'm waiting for you
And you're so far away
But if I close my eyes
I hear you breathing next to me
I just have to believe
That if we don't make it tonight
If we don't make it
I will not forget yesterday

Go near
Go far
I'm with you wherever you are
When times get hard
Be with you wherever you are

So we lie
With all the world between us
As we stare into the night
Will she be alright
Or will she fall apart
Shes so scared
Of being on her own
Her fragile heart
Can't weather the dark
So if we don't make it tonight
If we don't make it
I will not forget yesterday

Go near
Go far
I'm with you wherever you are
When times get hard
Be with you wherever you
Go near
Go far
I'm with you wherever you are
When times get hard
Be with you wherever you

Fall asleep
Tear drops on your pillowcase
I hope you're missing me
And I hope you will wait
And as you dream away
Hear me as I promise you
That I'll be back someday
So keep those memories
Because if we don't make it tonight
And if we don't make it
I will not forget yesterday

Go near
Go far
I'm with you wherever you are
When times get hard
Be with you wherever you
Go near
Go far
I'm with you wherever you are
When times get hard
Be with you wherever you
Go near
Go far
Go near
Go far
I'm with you wherever you are.
Wherever you are.
