You are right, dj. Much more powerful, Canada, just as America the Beautiful is so much easier to sing than the tune to The Star Spangled Banner. I do wish that they had left Keys' poem alone. grrrrrr. Mapleleaf thanks you, and Miss Letty thanks you.

Well, we miss Europe on our radio station. Even McTag didn't get my altered lyrics to "Coming Through the Rye." I got his reference to Ceylon as Sri Lanka used to be named.

Let's see, listeners, what can we dedicate to our Francis to draw him back in here? I know Walter likes dixieland.

And where in the world is Mr. Turtle, listeners?

In France They Kiss On Main Street
Joni Mitchell

Downtown
My darling dimestore thief
In the War of Independence
Rock 'n Roll rang sweet as victory
Under neon signs
A girl was in bloom
And a woman was fading
In a suburban room
I said, "Take me to the dance"
"Do you want to dance?"
"I love to dance"
And I told him, "They don't take chances
They seem so removed from romance"
"They've been broken in churches and schools
And molded to middle class circumstance"
And we were rolling, rolling, rock n' rolling

Downtown
The dance halls and cafes
Feel so wild you could break somebody's heart
Just doing the latest dance craze
Gail and Louise
In those push-up brassieres
Tight dresses and rhinestone rings
Drinking up the band's beers
Young love was kissing under bridges
Kissing in cars, kissing in cafes
And we were walking down Main Street
Kisses like bright flags hung on holidays
"In France they kiss on Main Street"
"Amour, mama, not cheap display"
And we were rolling, rolling, rock n' rolling

Downtown
In the pinball arcade
With his head full of pool hall pitches
And songs from the hit parade
He'd be singing "Bye, Bye, Love"
While he's racking up his free play
Let those rock 'n roll choir boys
Come and carry us away
Sometimes Chickie had the car
Or Ron had a car
Or Lead Foot Melvin with his hot-wire head
We'd all go looking for a party
Looking to raise Jesus up from the dead
And I'd be kissing in the back seat
Thrilling to the Brando-like things that he said
And we'd be rolling, rolling, rock n' rolling

for the turtle, hmm, thinking

Well, dj, That was a marvelous dedication for our Francis, but I really don't believe that "they" kiss on main street; how very shocking, even a glimpse of stocking just wasn't done. <smile>

Well, JL. is France the only one you wish to greet? Hey, Arizona, would you like to request a song?

Francis, I have one later for you from the PARIS TEXAS BAND BRATS.

For JL:

Arizona
Written by Margaret Rowe Clifford
Composed by Maurice Blumenthal

Come to this land of sunshine
To this land where life is young.
Where the wide, wide world is waiting,
The songs that will now be sung.
Where the golden sun is flaming
Into warm, white shining day,
And the sons of men are blazing
Their priceless right of way.

chorus

Come stand beside the rivers
Within our valley broad.
Stand here with heads uncovered,
In the presence of our God!
While all around, about us
The brave, unconquered band,
As guardians and landmarks
The giant mountains stand.

chorus

Not alone for gold and silver
Is Arizona great.
But with graves of heroes sleeping,
All the land is consecrate!
O, come and live beside us
However far ye roam
Come and help us build up temples
And name those temples "home."

chorus

Sing the song that's in your hearts
Sing of the great Southwest,
Thank God, for Arizona
In splendid sunshine dressed.
For thy beauty and thy grandeur,
For thy regal robes so sheen
We hail thee Arizona
Our Goddess and our queen.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Heroes in a half-shell
Turtle power!

They're the world's most fearsome fighting team (We're really hip!)
They're heroes in a half-shell and they're green (Hey - get a grip!)
When the evil Shredder attacks
These Turtle boys don't cut him no slack!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Splinter taught them to be ninja teens (He's a radical rat!)
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines (That's a fact, Jack!)
Raphael is cool but crude (Gimme a break!)
Michaelangelo is a party dude (Party!)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

For Le Brat:

Night in Paris Lyrics

Part One: One Night in Paris
Bonjour monsieur
Paris really welcomes you
It's the best room in the house
It's forty francs a night, alright.
It's crazy, it isn't worth a centime
I'll take it!
Merci Monsieur
Rouged lips in the gaslight
A great view of the hall
That's the way the croissant crumbles after all
Paris is only one step away
Les girls are out on bail
Tres bien there's love for sale
Oh my cheri, wish you were mine
And I'll show you a wonderful time
For the price of a cheap champagne
I'll show it you once again
One night in Paris
Is like a year in any other place
One night in Paris
Will wipe the smile off your pretty face
One girl in Paris
Is like loving every woman
One night in Paris
One night in Paris
One night in Paris
May be your last!!!
Part Two: The Same Night in Paris
Is he gonna buy?
You wanna little culture?
Is he gonna pay?
Maybe Monsieur is into photographs, Non?
Or is he gonna fall in love
The all American way?
I got a watch wiz a beautiful Swiss movement
Is he gonna buy?
Forget the watch, I'll show you a good time!`
Is he gonna pay?
Le connoisseur, want something different?
Or is he gonna fall in love
The all American way?
Oh you know you ain't no Casanova
You can't even do the Bossa Nova
Or the Tango or the Samba!
Though you are so very charming
No you ain't no Casanova
Is he gonna buy?
Is he gonna pay?
Or is he gonna fall in love
The all American way?
Sometimes I think he will
But then again........................
One night in Paris
Is like a year in any other place!
One night in Paris
Will wipe the smile off your pretty face!
Try a girl in Paris
But try one of mine
Each night in Paris
Each night in Paris
Each night in Paris
Each night in Paris
May be your last!!!
Part Three: Later the same night in Paris
Forty-Two, Quarante-Deux
Rue de Saint Jacques
All our girls are how you say
Good in the sack
I was a stripper
On the Champs Elysees
He was a gendarme
In the gendarmerie
Going Oh La La La
Oh La La La La
He was a pimp
In a black beret
But he was an artiste
In his own way
Oh La La La
Oh La La La La
When they raided my club that night
They ruined my act with the leather umbrella
the Chief de Police got a fright
He was up in my boudoir with some other fella
It's only routine
But I got this feeling
It ain't good for business
Then the floor cleared
A woman screamed to herself
Henri...Though you're not the toast of Paris
I love you, although you bed and beat me
Henri, leave it alone,
For the gendarme's just doing his job
Paris is only one step away
Murder is only one step away
Notre Dame is ringing her bells
Another gendarme has gone to Hell
Notre Dame is ringing her bells
Another gendarme has gone to Hell
Gone to Hell
Gone to Hell
One night in Paris
Is like a year in any other place
One night in Paris
Will wipe the smile off your pretty face
One girl in Paris
Is like loving every woman
This night in Paris
This night in Paris
This night in Paris
This night in Paris
May be your last!!!

That was from the naughty Letty of Daytona Beach. Twisted Evil

belated good morning & happy new years, listeners, and special thanks to dj for playing a fave my Joni Mitchell. i'm skipping ahead a couple of years in the Billboard countdown, for this '65 smash by the Beatles:

Baby's good to me, you know
She's happy as can be, you know
She said so
I'm in love with her and I feel fine

Baby says she's mine, you know
She tells me all the time, you know
She said so
I'm in love with her and I feel fine

I'm so glad that she's my little girl
She's so glad, she's telling all the world

That her baby buys her things, you know
He buys her diamond rings, you know
She said so
She's in love with me and I feel fine, mmm

Baby says she's mine, you know
She tells me all the time, you know
She said so
I'm in love with her and I feel fine

I'm so glad that she's my little girl
She's so glad, she's telling all the world

That her baby buys her things, you know
He buys her diamond rings, you know
She said so
She's in love with me and I feel fine
She's in love with me and I feel fine, mmm, mmm

(incidentally, according to wikipedia, the start of this tune is the first deliberate use of feedback in a popular recording.)

There's our Raggedy, listeners. Wow! PA, what a great way to play on New Year's Day. Thanks, honey, for the pix of Frank. He made a rather believable vampire.

But here's an antidote, folks:

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Radio Sunnydale Soundtrack Lyrics

Artist: The Dandy Warhols Lyrics
Song: Bohemian Like You Lyrics

You've got a great car
Yeah, what's wrong with it today?
I used to have one too
Maybe you should come and have a look
I really like your hairdo
I'm glad you like mine too
I see we're looking pretty cool
So what do you do?
Oh, you're waiting tables too?
No I haven't heard your band
Because you guys are pretty new
But if you love vegan food
Come over to my work
I'll have them look you something that you'll really love
Cuz I like you
Yeah I like you
And I feel so Bohemian like you
Wait
Who's that guy, just hangin at your pad?
He's looking kinda sad
Oh, you broke up?
That's too bad
But I guess it's fair
If he always pays the rent
And he doesn't get all bent
About sleeping on the couch when I'm there
Cuz I like you
Yeah I like you
And I'm feeling so bohemian
I feel so bohemian like you
And I want you
Please
Just a casual thing
Cuz I like you I like you I like you
Whoo-hoo-ooo

And there's our Yit. Missed your song, buddy. Sorry. It seems that Joni did the trick, dj.

Now who did the song:

I feel fine anytime she's around me now.

I have asked TWO questions, and not one has been answered, so the jackpot will roll over.

a "happy new year" to all listeners.
we came back from our traditional new year's day walk along lake ontario. while the sun isn't shining today, it was nice to get some fresh air by the lake. no ice has formed on the lake yet and plenty of ducks were paddling around. the seem to get advance warning of any upcoming deepfreeze, when they sense cold weather and ice coming , thet move move about twenty miles up the lake to one of the electrical power stations and swim in the warm water coming from the cooling units - smart birdies !

hope you like to listen to another of cole porter's songs . during his time he was considered quite avant garde and criticized for his somewhat "loose" lyrics ! just imagine if he could listen to some of today's songs.

"begin the beguine" by cole porter
tony martin with henri rene and his orchestra

When they begin the beguine
It brings back the sound of music so tender,
It brings back a night of tropical splendor,
It brings back a memory ever green.
I'm with you once more under the stars,
And down by the shore an orchestra's playing
And even the palms seem to be swaying
When they begin the beguine.
To live it again is past all endeavor,
Except when that tune clutches my heart,
And there we are, swearing to love forever,
And promising never, never to part.
What moments divine, what rapture serene,
Till clouds came along to disperse the joys we had tasted,
And now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted,
I know but too well what they mean;
So don't let them begin the beguine
Let the love that was once a fire remain an ember;
Let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember
When they begin the beguine.
Oh yes, let them begin the beguine, make them play
Till the stars that were there before return above you,
Till you whisper to me once more,
Darling, I love you!
And we suddenly know What heaven we're in,
When they begin the beguine

Hey, hamburger. Ah, you are so calming and serene. Thanks for your personal update, and the dance song, buddy. I think my oldest sister played that on piano.

I am going to give the answers to the questions, now:

Catcher in the Rye
And James Taylor.

Back later, folks, with the entire J.T. song

And here he is, folks:

Something In The Way She Moves - James Taylor
There's something in the way she moves,
Or looks my way, or calls my name,
That seems to leave this troubled world behind.
And if I'm feeling down and blue,
Or troubled by some foolish game,
She always seems to make me change my mind.

And I feel fine anytime she's around me now,
She's around me now
Almost all the time
And if I'm well you can tell she's been with me now,
She's been with me now, quite a long, long time
And I feel fine.

Every now and then the things I lean on lose their meaning
And I find myself careening
Into places where I should not let me go.
She has the power to go where no one else can find me
Yes, and to silently remind me
Of the happiness and good times that I know, got to know.

It isn't what she's got to say
But how she thinks and where she's been
To me, the words are nice, the way they sound
I like to hear them best that way
It doesn't much matter what they mean
If she says them mostly just to calm me down

And I feel fine anytime she's around me now,
She's around me now
Almost all the time
And if I'm well you can tell she's been with me now,
She's been with me now quite a long, long time
And I feel fine.

Forty-five minutes
Forty-five cents
Sixty-five agents sitting on a fence
Singing, hey brother
Look what we got for you
We're gonna rope off an area
And put on a show
From the canadian border
Down to mexico
It might be the most
Potentially gross
Thing that we could possibly do
Yeah, little buddy gonna get your chance
Make them pubescents all wet their pants
We'll record it live
And that's no jive.
Hold it! stop it! no! no! no! no!
Bang! went the pistol.
Crash! went the window.
Ouch! went the son of a gun.
Onomatopoeia
I don't wanna see ya
Speaking in a foreign tongue.

Knock! knock! hello!
Can I come in?
Gee, that was a wonderful show!
Oh, you haven't gone on yet?
Well, how was I supposed to know?
Hey! we got a great date
It's really downtown
We're gonna get the grand canyon
To do the sound
It's a boxing ring
But it might be the thing
To really put you in the dough
Listen little brother, don't ya get us wrong
Why we even know the words to your song
Just say I do
And we'll lay it on you
You! you! and me! me! me!
Bang! went the pistol
Crash! went the window
Ouch! went the son of a gun
Onomatopoeia
I don't want to see ya
Speaking in a foreign tongue.

The last time that I saw her
She was standing in the rain
With her overcoat under her arm
Leaning on a horsehead cane
She said carl, take all the money
She called everybody carl
My spirit's broke
My mind's a joke,
And getting up's real hard

Don't you know her
When you see her?
She grew up
In your back yard
Come back to us
Barbara lewis
Hare krishna
Beauregard

Selling bibles at the airports
Buying quayludes on the phone
Hey, you talk about
A paper route
She's a shut in without a home
God save her, please
She's nailed her knees
To some drugstore parking lot
Hey, mr. brown
Turn the volume down
I believe this evening's shot

Can't you picture her next thursday?
Can you picture her at all?
In the hotel boulderado
At the dark end of the hall
I gotta shake myself and wonder
Why she even bothers me
For if heartaches were commercials
We'd all be on t.v.
