See? I told you that I had powers of prediction.

Last evening, listeners, I watched the original King Kong which was followed by a black and white documentary. It was absolutely spell binding. I am amazed at what those folks could do in the non digital age.

There also was an interview with Terry Moore who supposedly was married to Howard Hughes. I did a quick check via the archives, and found some very interesting info.

Back later, as I have put off things that really need to be done. YUK!

Good morning all.

I always enjoy the bios, Silver Fox. Very Happy

I liked that Charlie Rich number - We Walked Through a Field of Yellow Daisies.

Although I think I posted a pic of Patty Duke on her birthday a year ago, she's such a good actress, she deserves another.

Ah, listeners, there's our Raggedy with pictures perfect. Thanks, PA, and you are so right. Patty Duke does indeed deserve a second time around photo.

Folks, I am always getting AMC and TCM confused, but here's a brief summary on the documentary about Kong:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Just as we know there can never be another "King Kong" with the adventure, wit and pathos of the original, one look at the documentary "I'm King Kong" tells us why: There will never be, in American movies, in American life, the likes of "King Kong's" producer Merian C. Cooper, a man who lived the life of an adventurer, risk-taker, original thinker and, yes, movie producer.
Kevin Brownlow's mesmerizing look at Cooper is itself an adventure story of the first order.

Cooper's 20th century life also reads like travel literature of earlier centuries in this country: adventures in war, new unexplored continents and a feverish desire for experience that reaches few men. Along the way, Merian C. Cooper learned to love movies, producing not only the incomparable "Kong" but, among other exploits (including a partnership of sorts with John Ford), later on bringing Cinerama to the screen.

The documentary sparkles with an abundance archival footage, much of it focused on the extraordinary task of bring "King Kong" to the screen. Cooper is larger than life, with voice-overs taken over the years that help tell his story. He narrates his adventures and his passion for life. Also brimming with on-camera interviews with Cooper's colleagues and film historians, the documentary is a fine achievement of rare depth. TCM also will air "King Kong" and Cooper's "Mighty Joe Young."

Reuters/Hollywood Reporter

He was, my friends, the original Indiana Jones.

and now we reach "Z" end

of the list and the atrocious wordplay

You Will, You Won't
The Zutons

You will you won't
You do you don't
You're saying you will
But you know you won't
You may you might
Your chest gets tight
You say you love day
But you come out at night
While your thinking, thinking, thinking up a storm in you
All the things you're thinking, are they false, are they true
You know the dipsydoodle rag, it tells no lie
But all the time you're thinking, well you're tricking your mind

You will you won't
You do you don't
You're saying you will
But you know you won't
You may you might
Your chest gets tight
You say you love day
But you come out at night

Well the devil's standing tall on the top of the hill
Pointing down his fork and betraying your will
You gotta make decisions whether old or new
Then god comes from the heavens and he's saying to you

You will you won't
You do you don't
You're saying you will
But you know you won't
You may you might
Your chest gets tight
You say you love day
But you come out at night

Well I've tried so hard
I've tried so hard
To make it right
To make it right
I'm gonna bury my thoughts
And forget all my worries
Tonight

You will you won't
You do you don't
You're saying you will
But you know you won't
You may you might
Your chest gets tight
You say you love day
But you come out at night

For My Next Trick I'll Need A Volunteer
Warren Zevon

I can saw a woman in two
But you won't want to look in the box when I do
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer

I can pull a rabbit out of a hat
I can pull it out but I can't put it back
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer

It's lonely up here
When the tricks have been played
And the spotlights have faded
And the plans that we made
Have fallen apart
It's lonely as hell
And there's no magic spell
For a broken heart

You can put me in chains and I will escape
Better not wait up 'cause I might be late
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer

It's lonely up here
When the tricks have been played
And the spotlights have faded
And the plans that we made
Have fallen apart
It's lonely as hell
And there's no magic spell
For a broken heart

I can saw a woman in two
But you won't want to look in the box when I do
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer

Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder
Frank Zappa

A year ago today
Was when you went away
But now you come back knockin' on my door
And you say you're back to stay,
But I say...
Go cry
On somebody else's shoulder
I'm somewhat wiser now
And one whole year older
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore

You cheated me baby,
And told some dirty lies about me
Fooled around with all those other guys
That's why I had to set you free
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore

A year ago today
You went away
And now you come back crying
Crying, crying: please, let me in
But I don't need you
No I don't love you anymore
So go lean on...go cry on
Somebody else's door

Go cry
On somebody else's shoulder
I'm somewhat wiser now
And one whole year older
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore (Oh, my darling!)

(Spoken:)
Go ahead and cry
Go ahead and let the tears fall outa your eye
Let 'em fall on your dress
Who cares if it makes a mess?
I gave you my high school ring
At the root beer stand
We had a teen-age love baby
I thought it was sharp
It was really so grand...but

You cheated me baby
And told some dirty lies about me
Fooled around with all those other guys
That's why I had to get my khakis pressed
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore

(Spoken:)
Baby, I love you so much, darling
Why don't you dig me?
I dig you
But you don't dig me
I don't understand what it is
I had my car re-upholstered
I got my hair processed
I got a nice pompadour job on it
I bought a new pair of shoes
I got some new khakis and I met you
And we went out to get a Coca-Cola...

The Indifference of Heaven
Warren Zevon

Time marches on
Time stands still
Time on my hands
Time to kill
Blood on my hands
And my hands in the till
Down at the 7-11
Gentle rain
Falls on me
All life folds back
Into the sea
We contemplate eternity
Beneath the vast indifference of heaven

The past seems realer than the present to me now
I've got memories to last me
When the sky is gray
The way it is today
I remember the times when I was happy

Same old sun
Same old moon
It's the same old story
Same old tune
They all say
Someday soon
My sins will all be forgiven
Gentle rain
Falls on me
All life folds back
Into the sea
We contemplate eternity
Beneath the vast indifference of heaven

They say "Everything's all right"
They say "Better days are near"
They tell us "These are the good times"
But they don't live around here
Billy and Christie don't--
Bruce and Patti don't--
They don't live around here

I had a girl
Now she's gone
She left town
Town burned down
Nothing left
But the sound
Of the front door closing forever

Gentle rain
Falls on me
All life folds back
Into the sea
We contemplate eternity
Beneath the vast indifference of heaven

Well, dj. Nuttin' wrong with a little pun in the sun, but you are right, Canada, sometimes both can get over done.

And following along with our dj's Z factor:

Led Zeppelin:

Love me like a hurricane

You know it hurts so much

C'mon and please me

You know I need your tender touch

Love me like a hurricane

And then you start to ( ? )

You tell me that you'll come on over

Then you say you won't

Love me like a hurricane

And then you start to ( ? )

I'll give it to you straight right now

Please

Oh please don't tease me

You know it hurts so much

C'mon and squeeze me

You know I need your tender touch

Tell me that you love me babe

Then you say you don't

You tell me that you'll come on over

Then you say you won't.

Hmmm. Don't quite get those question marks, listeners. Was that the work of the FCC?

I watched, on the history channel, last night a bio of Richard Pryor. I found it interesting that he wrote much of the material for Lily Tomlins stage performances. Odd, I though, such a strange combination. Richard also said he was heavily influenced by Lenny Bruce and Bill Cosby, I can see the Lenny Bruce. He wrote, produced, directed and starred in "Jo Jo Dancer which he regarded as biographical, I've never seen it but I will soon.

dys, I found out that Richard Pryor had MS.(or muscular dystrophy) I did NOT know that.

Go to the beauty salon one a year, folks, and you'll get all the news, among other things.

Yes lettybetty Richard had MS for quite a few years but continued making films, some of his best/most successful were made during his bad years with MS. He spent the last 10 or so years in a wheel chair. btw the important point of my post re Richard was that I actually sat down for an hour to watch the telly, very unusual behavior for meself.

Well, cowboy. I understand what you mean. Who else would get caught up in watching a black and white documentary in lieu of sleep? ME.

Here's a song for our cowboy, listeners:

Many years have come and gone since I wandered from my home
In those Oklahoma hills where I was born
Many a page of life has turned many a lesson I have learned
And I feel that in those hills I still belong
Way down yonder in the Indian nation ride my pony on the reservation
In the Oklahoma hills where I was born
A way down yonder in the Indian nation a cowboy's life is my occupation
In the Oklahoma hills where I was born.

As I sit here today many miles I am away
From a place I rode my pony through the drove
Where the oak and blackjack trees kiss the playful prairie breeze
In the Oklahoma hills where I was born
Way down yonder in the Indian nation...
[ guitar ]
As I turn life a page to the land of a great old sage
In the Oklahoma hills where I was born
Where the Blackbony River flows in the snow white cotton grows
In the Oklahoma hills where I was born
Way down yonder in the Indian nation...

Sorry, buddy. I couldn't find one about Denver.

one more song for dys, a perfect blend of cowboys and tv, from mr. johns great album "goodbye yellow brick road"

Roy Rogers
Elton John

Sometimes you dream, sometimes it seems
There's nothing there at all
You just seem older than yesterday
And you're waiting for tomorrow to call

You draw to the curtain and one thing's for certain
You're cozy in your little room
The carpet's all paid for, God bless the TV
Let's go shoot a hole in the moon

And Roy Rogers is riding tonight
Returning to our silver screens
Comic book characters never grow old
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told
Oh the great sequin cowboy who sings of the plains
Of roundups and rustlers and home on the range
Turn on the T.V., shut out the lights
Roy Rogers is riding tonight

Nine o'clock mornings, five o'clock evenings
I'd liven the pace if I could
Oh I'd rather have a ham in my sandwich than cheese
But complaining wouldn't do any good

Lay back in my armchair, close eyes and think clear
I can hear hoofbeats ahead
Roy and Trigger have just hit the hilltop
While the wife and the kids are in bed

another cowboy number from the UK:

Now somewhere in the black mountain hills of Dakota
There lived a young boy named Rocky Raccoon
And one day his woman ran off with another guy
Hit young Rocky in the eye Rocky didn't like that
He said I'm gonna get that boy
So one day he walked into town
Booked himself a room in the local saloon

Rocky Raccoon checked into his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
Rocky had come equipped with a gun
To shoot off the legs of his rival
His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was Magil and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy
Now she and her man who called himself Dan
Were in the next room at the hoe down
Rocky burst in and grinning a grin
He said Danny boy this is a showdown
But Daniel was hot, he drew first and shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner, ah

D'da d'da d'da da da da
D'da d'da d'da da da da
D'da d'da d'da da d'da d'da d'da d'da
Do do do do do do

D'do d'do d'do do do do
D'do d'do d'do do do do
D'do d'do d'do do do d'do d'do d'do d'do
Do do do do do do

Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said Rocky you met your match
And Rocky said, doc it's only a scratch
And I'll be better I'll be better doc as soon as I am able

And now Rocky Raccoon he fell back in his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
Gideon checked out and he left it no doubt
To help with good Rocky's revival, ah
Oh yeah, yeah

D'do d'do d'do do do do
D'do d'do d'do do do do
D'do d'do d'do do do d'do d'do d'do d'do
Do do do do do do

D'do d'do d'do do do do, come on, Rocky boy
D'do d'do d'do do do do, come on, Rocky boy
D'do d'do d'do do do d'do d'do d'do d'do
The story of Rocky there

I do believe this is dys day, listeners. <smile>

dj, never knew that Elton ever heard of Roy. Thanks, Canada, for sharing that song with us.

Yit, I know Rocky all right. Thanks, Mr. Turtle.

Hey, folks. How about a little of that yellow brick road:

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

When are you gonna come down
When are you going to land
I should have stayed on the farm
I should have listened to my old man

You know you can't hold me forever
I didn't sign up with you
I'm not a present for your friends to open
This boy's too young to be singing the blues

So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough

Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road

What do you think you'll do then
I bet that'll shoot down your plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics
To set you on your feet again

Maybe you'll get a replacement
There's plenty like me to be found
Mongrels who ain't got a penny
Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground

Yes, he is, dys.

Just a small personal anecdote, folks.

Even in the midst of sorrow, we find a lovely moment to explore.

Driving over the intercoastal bridge, the full moon hung low on heaven's brink capturing the ocean in a field of light, and it was like my first sight of it. So for the moon:

Diana Krall - The Night We Called It a Day Lyrics
There was a moon out in space
But a cloud drifted over it's face
You kissed me and went on your way
The night we called it a day
I heard the song of the spheres
Like a minor lament in my ears
I hadn't the heart left to pray
The night we called it a day

Soft through the dark
The hoot of an owl in the sky
Sad though his song
No bluer was he than I.

The moon went down stars were gone
But the sun didn?t rise with the dawn
There wasn?t a thing left to say
The night we called it a day
There wasn?t a thing left to say
The night we called it a day.

Beautiful changes, listeners.

And Letty shall call it a day.

Goodnight song from your PD:

Rod Stewart - We'll Be Together Again Lyrics
No tears
No fears
Remember there's always tomorrow
So what if we have to part
We'll be together again

Your kiss
Your smile
Are memories I'll treasure forever
So try thinking with your heart
We'll be together again

Times when I know you'll be lonesome
Times when I know you'll be sad
Don't let temptation surround you
Don't let the blues make you bad

Some day
Some way
We both have a lifetime before us
For parting is never goodbye
We'll be together again.

Times when I know you'll be lonesome
Times when I know you'll be sad
Don't let temptation surround you
Don't let the blues make you bad

Some day
Some way
We both have a lifetime before us
For parting is not goodbye
We'll be together again.

how's about a song from good ol' satchmo ?
i have a four- LP set "a musical autobiography of louis armstrong" that i purchased about thirty years ago. i still like to listen to his gravelly voice . i think he was one of the great musicians and human beings of my time. i started listening to him about 1946 , when he appeared on "american forces network" in europe .
here is one of the 48 hits on the recordings .

When Your Smiling (recorded dec 12 1956 ! that's 49 years ago , but it sounds as fresh as if it was recorded yesterday)
Shay, Fisher, and Goodwin

When you're smilin'....keep on smilin'
The whole world smiles with you
And when you're laughin'....keep on laughin'
The sun comes shinin' through

But when you're cryin'.... you bring on the rain
So stop your frownin'....be happy again
Cause when you're smilin'....keep on smilin'
The whole world smiles with you

(instrumental break)
Oh when you're smilin'....keep on smilin'
The whole world smiles with you
Ah when you're laughin'....keep on laughin'
The sun comes shinin' through

Now when you're cryin'.... you bring on the rain
So stop that sighin'....be happy again
Cause when you're smilin'....just keep on smilin'
And the whole world gonna smile with

The great big world will smile with

The whole wide world will smile with you

how about another non-traditional "holiday carol" from Frank Zappa & the Mothers Question Twisted Evil

I'm dreaming... (Oh no-o-o!)

There's a bomb to blow yo mommy up
A bomb for your daddy too (ouch.)
A baby doll that burps & pees
A case of airplane glue
A hungry plastic troll
To scarf yo buddy's arm
A box of ugly plastic things marked:
Uncle Bernie's Farm!

There's a little plastic congress
There's a nation you can buy (I'll take two.)
There's a doll that looks like mommy
She'll do anything but cry (I seen her.)
There's a doll that looks like daddy
He's a funny little man
Push a button & ask for money
There's a dollar in his hand (check his wallet.)

We gotta send Santa Claus back to the Rescue Mission
Christmas don't make it no more
Don't you know that murder & destruction
Scream the toys in every store (think this'll sell in New York?)

There's a man who runs the country
There's a man who tried to think
And they're all made out of plastic
When they melt they start to stink
There's a book with smiling children
Nearly dead with Christmas joys!
And smiling in his office
Is the creep who makes the toys...

FZ: We got this car: when it hits the wall you see the guy dying... got the little plastic puddles of blood... by the car
I'M DREAMING...
Ray: He has intestines... he has plastic intestines you can
stuff back into his stomach...
FZ: There's this other thing, I've got bombs. I've got rockets, I've got a... I've got a stilson wrench & plastic brass knuckles...
Ray: And it comes with a tape recorder with sound effects...
FZ: We got a '39 Chevy...

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

hamburger, thanks for that Satchmo song, buddy. What a performer he was, no?

Yit, You are one amazing turtle, you and Frank Zappa. I assume your song is a comment on commercialism. Well, the pope agrees with you both, buddy.

How about something a little different this morning, listeners:

Cherokee
Charlie Parker, Bebop Jazz
Cherokee sweet Indian maiden
Since first I met you I can't forget you
Cherokee sweet heart child of the prairie
Your love keeps calling my heart enthralling

Cherokee dreams of summ
ertime
Of lovertime gone by throng
My memory, so tenderly and sigh

My sweet Indian maiden
One day I hold you
In my arm fold you Cherokee.

Very unusual lyrics, no?

Well, folks. We miss our European friends, but I'm certain they will return to our studios after a while.

God only knows:

God Only Knows
~ The Beach Boys

I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you

If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?
God only knows what I'd be without you

God only knows what I'd be without you

God only knows what I'd be without you

If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?

God only knows what I'd be without you
