Well, Mr. Turtle. You must have missed, (the news, I mean. Razz )

Poetic question of the day:

Who killed Cock Robin poem

"Who killed Cock Robin?" "I," said the Sparrow,
"With my bow and arrow, I killed Cock Robin."
"Who saw him die?" "I," said the Fly,
"With my little eye, I saw him die."
"Who caught his blood?" "I," said the Fish,
"With my little dish, I caught his blood."
"Who'll make the shroud?" "I," said the Beetle,
"With my thread and needle, I'll make the shroud."
"Who'll dig his grave?" "I," said the Owl,
"With my pick and shovel, I'll dig his grave."
"Who'll be the parson?" "I," said the Rook,
"With my little book, I'll be the parson."
"Who'll be the clerk?" "I," said the Lark,
"If it's not in the dark, I'll be the clerk."
"Who'll carry the link?" "I," said the Linnet,
"I'll fetch it in a minute, I'll carry the link."
"Who'll be chief mourner?" "I," said the Dove,
"I mourn for my love, I'll be chief mourner."
"Who'll carry the coffin?" "I," said the Kite,
"If it's not through the night, I'll carry the coffin."
"Who'll bear the pall? "We," said the Wren,
"Both the cock and the hen, we'll bear the pall."
"Who'll sing a psalm?" "I," said the Thrush,
"As she sat on a bush, I'll sing a psalm."
"Who'll toll the bell?" "I," said the bull,
"Because I can pull, I'll toll the bell."
All the birds of the air fell a-sighing and a-sobbing,
When they heard the bell toll for poor Cock Robin

Raggedy, you tiptoed in with a jungle princess. Thanks, PA, and do you know "Sparrow in the Treetop"?<smile>

Incidentally, here's the history behind cock robin:

Who killed Cock Robin
Nursery Rhyme & History

The origin of the "Who killed cock robin" poem
'Who killed cock robin?' is best described as an English folksong or poem rather than a nursery rhyme. The words of "Who killed cock robin" are said to refer to the death of the legendary figure of Robin Hood and not that of a bird. The legend of Robin Hood encompasses the theme that he stole from the rich to give to the poor. The words of "Who killed cock robin" describe how help was offered from all quarters following the death of cock robin thus reflecting the high esteem in which Robin was held by the common folk.

Very Happy Sparrow In the Treetop
Guy Mitchell
Words and Music by Bob Merrill

-From "Singing the Blues": Imperial House NU 9880
-peak Billboard position # 8 in 1951
-competing versions also charted by Bing Crosby & the Andrews Sisters (#8)
-and Rex Allen #28)

INTRO

Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow in the treetop
Though he loves his mate
Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow in the treetop
Scared of goin' home because it's too darn late

Don't look at me, sweetheart, with scorn in your eyes
Been out all night, gonna tell you no lies
Stopped in one place, heard them singin' a song

Like a lonely sparrow, started singin' along

Just singin' (GUY AND BACKUP SINGERS TOGETHER)

(Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow in the treetop)
(Though he loves his mate)
(Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow in the treetop)
Scared of goin' home because it's too darn late

In walked a blonde and, dear, she asked me to dance
I told that blonde that there wasn't a chance
I love my kids and my beautiful wife

That's the honest truth, dear, and I swear by my life

-GUY AND FEMALE SINGERS SING (Sparrow in the treetop,
sparrow in the treetop Though he loves his mate, Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow
in the treetop, Scared of goin' home because it's too darn late)
while MALE SINGERS sing

There's things I am sweetheart, and things that I ain't
'cause I'm a man and a man is no saint
Won't you forgive 'cause I'm tellin' you true

I was in the tavern only thinkin' of you

Just singin' (GUY AND BACKUP SINGERS TOGETHER)

(Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow in the treetop)
(Though he loves his mate)
(Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow in the treetop)
Scared of goin' home because it's too darn late

(Just singin')-GUY AND FEMALE SINGERS SING (Sparrow in the treetop,
sparrow in the treetop Though he loves his mate, Sparrow in the treetop, sparrow
in the treetop, Scared of goin' home because it's TOO DARN LATE!!)
while MALE SINGERS sing

Transcribed by Robin Hood (I'll bet you didn't know that)

Well, I never felt more like singin' the blues
'cause I never thought that I'd ever lose
Your love dear, why'd you do me this way?
Well, I never felt more like cryin' all night
'cause everythin's wrong, and nothin' ain't right
Without you, you got me singin' the blues.

The moon and stars no longer shine
The dream is gone I thought was mine
There's nothin' left for me to do
But cry-y-y-y over you (cry over you)
Well, I never felt more like runnin' away
But why should I go 'cause I couldn't stay
Without you, you got me singin' the blues.

instrumental and whistling

Well, I never felt more like singin' the blues
'cause I never thought that I'd ever lose
Your love dear, why'd you do me this way?
Well, I never felt more like cryin' all night
'cause everythin's wrong, and nothin' ain't right
Without you, you got me singin' the blues.

Oh, the moon and stars no longer shine

Love it, dys and Raggedy. It's amazing to me how marvelous the RNA is among all our listeners and contributors.

It must be something we eat or drink, folks. Green Tea perhaps?

Assam the land where you find flowers that are
exquisitely beautiful, animals that are rare, and a beleagured people that are proud and inviting
PLEASE NOTE A MINIMUM OF 4 PERSONS REQUIRED TO OPERATE PACKAGE .

Shocked That's kinda heavy stuff you're drinking there, cowboy.

Wow, folks. I do believe that I had to much of what dys was drinking. I fell asleep at the wheel.

It just ocurred to me that our Bob has not been with us today. Now that's unusual.

Hey, Boston. Where are those bio's?

Let's hear a little country:

I don't want your lonely mansion with a tear in every room
All I want's the love you've promised beneath the halo moon
But you think I should be happy with your money and your name
Sit alone and hide my sorrows while you play your cheatin' game

Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine
And I dare drown my sorrow in the warm glow of your mind
You can't buy my love with money 'cause I ain't never been that kind
Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine

Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine
And I dare drown my sorrow in the warm glow of your mind
You can't buy my love with money 'cause I ain't never been that kind
Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine

I'm Waiting For The Man
Velvet Underground

I'm waiting for my man
Twenty-six dollars in my hand
Up to Lexington, 125
Feel sick and dirty, more dead than alive
I'm waiting for my man

Hey, white boy, what you doin' uptown?
Hey, white boy, you chasin' our women around?
Oh pardon me sir, it's the furthest from my mind
I'm just lookin' for a dear, dear friend of mine
I'm waiting for my man

Here he comes, he's all dressed in black
PR shoes and a big straw hat
He's never early, he's always late
First thing you learn is you always gotta wait
I'm waiting for my man

Up to a Brownstone, up three flights of stairs
Everybody's pinned you, but nobody cares
He's got the works, gives you sweet taste
Ah then you gotta split because you got no time to waste
I'm waiting for my man

Baby don't you holler, darlin' don't you bawl and shout
I'm feeling good, you know I'm gonna work it on out
I'm feeling good, I'm feeling oh so fine
Until tomorrow, but that's just some other time
I'm waiting for my man

Volcano Girls
Veruca Salt

Leave me
Lying here
'Cause I don't wanna go (x3)

Tell me tell me what you really want from me
You've got me let me know
I'm falling off and I need you terribly
One down and one to go

Volcano girls we really can't be beat
Warm us up and watch us blow
But now and then we fail and we admit defeat
We're falling off we are watered down and fully grown

Leave me
Lying here
'Cause I don't wanna go (x2)

A million miles of running and I hit the wall
I bounce back and I run some more
But this is it, I'm giving up, I'm calling quits
So get down and meet me on the floor

Way to go way to flip off everyone
I steal your thunder then I try to bolt
But I could stand a little pity now and then
I'm falling off I am watered down and fully grown

Go I don't wanna go I don't wanna go I don't wanna go I don't wanna go

I told you 'bout the seether before
You know, the one that's neither or nor
Well here's another clue if you please....
the seether's Louise

one two three

Leave me
Lying here
'Cause I don't wanna go (x3)

Leave me leave me leave me

Go I don't wanna go I don't wanna go I don't wanna go I don't wanna go

Add It Up
Violent Femmes

Day after day
I will walk, and I will play
But the day, after today
I will stop, and I will start

Why can't I get just one kiss?
Why can't I get just one kiss?
Believe me,
Somethings I wouldn't miss
But I look at you pants and I need a kiss.

Why can't I get just one screw?
Why can't I get just one screw?
Believe me,
I'd know what to do.
But something won't let me make love to you.

Why can't I get just one ****?
Why can't I get just one ****?
I guess it's got something to do with luck
But I've waited my whole life for just one

Day after day
I get angry
And I will say
That the day is in my sight
When I take a bow and say goodnight

Oh my my my my my oh my mum
Have you kept your eye
Your eye on your son?
I know you've had problems
You're not the only one
When your sugar left, he left you on the run

Mo my my my my my mo my mum
Take a look now
Look what your boy has done
He's walking around like he's number one
You went downtown and got him a gun.

Don't shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
Don't shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
You know you got my sympathy
But don't shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
Don't shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
Don't shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
You know you got my sympathy
But don't shoot shoot shoot that thing at me

Broken down kitchen at the top of the stairs
Can I mix in with your affairs?
Share a smoke, Make a joke
Grasp and reach for a leg of hope
Words to memorize, words hypnotize
Words make my mouth exercise.
Words all fail the magic prize
Nothing I can say when I'm in your thighs

Oh my my my my my mo my mother
I would love to love you lover
City's restless
It's ready to pounce
Here in your bed from ounce to ounce
Sayin' oh my my my my my mo my mother
I would love to love you lover
The city's restless
It's ready to pounce
Here in your bed from ounce to ounce

I've given you a decision to make
Things to lose, things to take
Just as she's about ready to cut it up
She says
Wait a minute honey I'm gonna add it up
Add it up (x8)
Day after day
I get angry and I will say
That the day is in my sight
When I take a bow and say goodnight

<BONUS TUNE>

American Music
Violent Femmes

Do you like amercan music
I like american music
don't you like american music baby
I want you to hold me
I want your arms around me
I want you to hold me baby
did you do too many drugs
I did too many drugs
did you do too many drugs too baby
you were born too late
I was born too soon
but every time I look at that ugly moon
it reminds me of you
it reminds me of you ooh ooh ooh
I need a date to the prom
would you like to come along
but nobody would go to the prom with me baby
they didn't like american music
they never heard american music
they didn't know the music was in my soul baby
you were born too soon
I was born too late
but every time I look at that ugly lake
it reminds me of me
it reminds me of me
do you like american music
we like american music
I like american music baby
do you like american music
we like all kinds of music
but I like american music best
baby you were born too late
and i was born too late
but every time I look at that ugly lake
it reminds me of me
it reminds me of me
do you like american music
it reminds me of me
do you like american music...

Ah, dj. You're the bonus, honey. Right listeners?

Thanks, Canada. Here's a matching V song, but the lyrics are infused with strange diacriticals. <smile>

Very Close To Far Away

I¡¯m very close to far away
And I can¡¯t hear the words you say
So take what you can take what you find
Take it all into your mind

I¡¯m very close to letting go
Even closer than you know
I need what you have need what you give
I need your love to make me live
So talk to me now talk to me slow
Say the words I told you so
I know you don¡¯t believe me
Or all the things I say
But if you¡¯d just receive me
We¡¯re very close to far away

I¡¯m very close to far away
And I can¡¯t hear the words you say
So take what you can take what you find
Take it all into your mind

I know you don¡¯t believe me
Or all the things I say
But if you¡¯d just receive me
We¡¯re very close to far away
I¡¯m very close to far away
And I can¡¯t hear the words you say
I need what you have need what you give
I need your love to make me live

I¡¯m very close to letting go
Even closer than you know
So take what you can
Take what you find
Take it all into your mind.

Sorry folks. Too lazy to clean up their act.

You know, listeners. I had no idea that McCarthy wrote poetry. I have been doing a great deal of research today, and found this poem by him:

VIETNAM MESSAGE
We will take our corrugated steel
out of the land of thatched huts.

We will take our tanks
out of the land of the water buffalo.

We will take our napalm and flame throwers
out of the land that scarcely knows the use of matches.

We will take our helicopters
out of the land of colored birds and butterflies.

We will give back your villages and fields
your small and willing women.

We will leave you your small joys
and smaller troubles.

We will trust you to your gods,
some blind, some many-handed.

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls have picked them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing?
Where have all the young girls gone, long time ago?
Where have all the young girls gone?
Gone for husbands everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the husbands gone, long time passing?
Where have all the husbands gone, long time ago?
Where have all the husbands gone?
Gone for soldiers everyone
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards, everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?
