Today I feel like pleasing you more than before
Today I know what I want to do but I don't know what for
To be living for you is all I want to do
To be loving you it'll all be there when my dreams come true
Today you'll make me say that I somehow have changed
Today you'll look into my eyes, I'm just not the same
To be anymore than all I am would be a lie
I'm so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry
Today everything you want, I swear it all will come true
Today I realize how much I'm in love with you
With you standing here I could tell the world what it means to love
To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enought
Please, please listen to me
It's taken so long to come true
And it's all for you
all for you....

As is often the case, listeners, one thing leads to another on our little radio. In attempting to locate a place in New Hampshire, I found that the Connecticut River in Portsmouth was a waterway to help run away slaves escape to Canada. This song comes to mind:

Travelers on the Underground Railroad shared the itinerary for their path to freedom -- hidden in these lyrics.

Chorus:
Follow the drinking gourd,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting
for to carry you to freedom
If you follow the drinking gourd.

The riverbank will make a very good road,
The dead trees show you the way.
Left foot, peg foot traveling on,
Following the drinking gourd.

The river ends between two hills,
Follow the drinking gourd,
There's another river on the other side,
Follow the drinking gourd.

When the great big river meets the little river,
Follow the drinking gourd.
For the old man is waiting
for to carry you to freedom
If you follow the drinking gourd.

Question for the evening:

What, exactly was the "drinking gourd"?

some tunes from the 80's

The Ghost In You
The Psychedelic Furs

a man in my shoes runs a light
and all the papers lied tonight
but falling over you
is the news of the day

angels fall like rain
and love is all of heaven away

inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
the ghost in you
she don't fade

inside you the time moves
and she don't fade

a race is on i'm on your side
and hearing you my engines die
i'm in a mood for you
for running away

stars come down in you
and love...you can't give it away

inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
the ghost in you
she don't fade

inside you the time moves
and she don't fade

don't you go it makes no sense
when all your talking supermen
just take away the time
and get in the way

ain't it just like rain
and love...is only heaven away

inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
the ghost in you
she don't fade

inside you the time moves
and she don't fade

Appetite
Prefab Sprout

Please be careful is never careful
Till it hears the gun
She will always pay the bills
For the having big fun
He talks so well, what can you do,
It's pretty plain he means it too
I don't want to sell you lines,
I only mean to do you right
But I'm a simple slave of appetite,
I'm a poor slave of appetite

Hunger howls, hungers red,
Hungers stays till it's fed
Then it some h-h-how fades,
Then it somehow leaves your sight
Depending on it's appetite,
Depending on your appetite

So if you take - Then put back good
If you steal - be Robin Hood
If your eyes are wanting all you see
Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

Here she is with two small problems
And the best part of the blame
Wishes she could call him heartache
But it's not a boy's name

If you grow up to be, just like him, just like me
You're fighting for exclusive rights,
For honeymoons each sleepless night
In which case I'll call you appetite
Yes I think I'll call you appetite

So if you take - Then put back good
If you steal - be Robin Hood
If your eyes are wanting all you see
Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

So if you take - Then put back good
If you steal - be Robin Hood
If your eyes are wanting all you see
Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

Love Of A Common People
Paul Young

Living on free-food tickets.
Water in the milk from a hole in the roof where the rain came through.
What can you do, mmm?
Tears from your little sister,
Crying because she doesn't have a dress without a patch
For the party to go.
But you know
She'll get by.

'Cause she's living in the love of the common people,
Smile's from the heart of a family man (ah ah ya).
Daddy's gonna buy you a dream to cling to;
Mama's gonna love you just as much as she can (you're so cold)
And she can.

It's a good thing you don't have busfare (it's a good thing);
It would fall through (ouch) the hole in your pocket and you'd lose it
In the snow on the ground (ow, ah ah ya).
You gotta walk into town
To find a job (what's it now).
Tryin' to keep your hands warm (it's so cold)
When the hole in your shoe let the snow come through
And chill you to the bone (brrr cha).
Somehow you'd better go home, where it's warm,

Where you can live in a love of the common people,
Smile's from the heart of a family man (ah ah ya).
Daddy's gonna buy you a dream to cling to;
Mama's gonna love you just as much as she can (you're so cold)
And she can.

Living on a dream ain't easy,
But the closer the knit,
The tighter the fit (the closer the knit),
And the chills stay away (ow, ah ah ya) --
Just take 'em in stride for family pride.
You know that faith is your foundation (ooh now, ooh now, ooh now),
With a whole lotta love and a warm conversation,
But don't forget to pray (forget to pray).
Just making it strong where you belong.

And we're living in the love of the common people,
Smile's from the heart of a family man
Daddy's gonna buy you a dream to cling to;
Mama's gonna love you just as much as she can
And she can.

Here's a song for Mc Tag, who is no doubt trying to keep his undercarriage warm during our present cold spell.......

DONALD WHERE'S YER TROOSERS?

I've just come back from the Isle of Skye
Im no very big and I'm awful shy
And the lassies shout when I go by
"Donald where's yer troosers"

A lassie took me to a ball
And it was slippery in the hall
And I was feart that I would fall
Fur I hadnae on ma' troosers

To wear the kilt is my delight
It isna wrong, I know its right
The islanders would get a fright
If they saw me in the troosers

Let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low
Through the streets in my kilt I'll go
And all the lassies shout hello
"Donald where's yer troosers"

I'm a-blowin' down this old dusty road,
I'm a-blowin' down this old dusty road, Lord, Lord,
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way.
I'm a-goin' where the water taste like wine,

An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way.

I'm a-goin' where the dust storms never blow,
I'm a-goin' where them dust storms never blow,
I'm a-goin' where them dust storms never blow, blow, blow,
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way.

They say I'm a dust bowl refugee,
Yes, they say I'm a dust bowl refugee,
They say I'm a dust bowl refugee, Lord, Lord,
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way.

I'm a-lookin' for a job at honest pay,

An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way.

My children need three square meals a day,
Now, my children need three square meals a day,
My children need three square meals a day, Lord,
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way.

It takes a ten-dollar shoe to fit my feet,
It takes a ten-dollar shoe to fit my feet,
It takes a ten-dollar shoe to fit my feet, Lord, Lord,
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way.

Your a-two-dollar shoe hurts my feet,
Your two-dollar shoe hurts my feet,
Yes, your two-dollar shoe hurts my feet, Lord, Lord,
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way.

I'm a-goin' down this old dusty road,

GOTTA TRAVEL ON

I've laid around and played around this old town too long
Summer's almost gone, yes winter's coming on
I've laid around and played around this old town too long
And I feel like I gotta travel on.

Poppa writes to Johnny, but Johnny can't come home
Johnny can't come home, no Johnny can't come home
Poppa writes to Johnny, but Johnny can't come home
'Cause he's been on the chain gang, too long.

High sheriff and police riding after me
Riding after me, yea coming after me
High sheriff and police coming after me
And I feel like I gotta travel on.

Want to see my honey, want to see her bad
Want to see her bad, oh want to see her bad
Want to see my honey, want to see her bad
She's the best girl this poor boy ever had.

Well I just came up on the midnight special how about that
My car broke down in Texas she stopped dead in her tracks
Just called to tell you that I need you
Just called to tell you how I feel
I feel like some old engine lost my drivin wheel
Feel like some old engine lost my drivin wheel
Took my money on the night train what a terrible fight
I gave my promise I would be there with you by Saturday night
I wanna tell you that I need you baby
I need to tell you just how I feel
I feel like some old engine lost my drivin wheel
Feel like some old engine lost my drivin wheel

Can't say much in a phone call baby you know how it is
I have to tell you one short thing oh won't you listen to this
I want to tell you that I love you baby
I want to tell you just how I feel
I feel like some old engine lost my drivin wheel
Feel like some old engine lost my drivin wheel

Have you seen that vigilante man?
Have you seen that vigilante man?
Have you seen that vigilante man?
I been hearin' his name all over the land.
Well, what is a vigilante man?
Tell me, what is a vigilante man?
Has he got a gun and a club in his hand?
Is that is a vigilante man?

Rainy night down in the engine house,
Sleepin' just as still as a mouse,
Man come along an' he chased us out in the rain.
Was that a vigilante man?

Stormy days we passed the time away,
Sleepin' in some good warm place.
Man come along an' we give him a little race.
Was that a vigilante man?

Preacher Casey was just a workin' man,
And he said, "Unite all you working men."
Killed him in the river some strange man.
Was that a vigilante man?

Oh, why does a vigilante man,
Why does a vigilante man
Carry that sawed-off shot-gun in his hand?
Would he shoot his brother and sister down?

I rambled 'round from town to town,
I rambled 'round from town to town,
And they herded us around like a wild herd of cattle.
Was that the vigilante men?

Have you seen that vigilante man?
Have you seen that vigilante man?
I've heard his name all over this land.

The Wanderer
U2 with Johnny Cash

I went out walking
through the streets paved with gold
lifted some stones saw the skin and bones
of a city without a soul

I went out walking under an atomic sky
where the ground won't turn
and the rain it burns
like the tears when I said goodbye

Yeah I went with nothing
nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering

I went drifting through the capitals of tin
where men can't walk
or freely talk
and sons turn their fathers in

I stopped outside a church house
where the citizens like to sit
they say they want the kingdom
but they don't want God in it

I went out with nothing
nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering

I went out walking
down that winding road
where no one's trusting no one
and conscience...a too heavy load

I went out riding, down that ol'eight lane
I passed by a thousand signs
looking for my own name

I went with nothing
but the thought you'd be there, too
Looking for you

(Spoken)
I went out there in search of experience
to taste and to touch and to feel's as much
as a man can before he repents

I went out searching,
looking for one good man
A spirit who would not bend or break
Who could sit at his father's right hand

I went out walking
with a bible and a gun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was sure I was the one

Now Jesus, don't you wait up
Jesus, I'll be home soon
Yea I went out for the papers
told her I'd be back by noon

Yeah I left with nothing
but the thought you'd be there too
looking for you...

Yeah I left with nothing
nothing but the thought of you...
I went wandering

As I went out one morning to breathe the air around Tome Paine's
I spied the fairest damsel that ever did walk in chains
I offered her my hand, she took me by the arm
I knew that very instant she meant to do me harm

Depart from me this moment I told her with my voice
She said but I don't wish to, said I but you've got no choice
I beg you sir, she pleaded from the corner of her mouth,
I will secretly accept you and together we'll fly south

Just then Tom Paine himself came a-runnin' across the field
Shouting at this lovely girl and commanding her to yield
And as she was letting go her grip, up Tom Paine did run
I'm sorry sir, he said to me, I'm sorry for what she's done

How lovely, listeners. All the music and the night, right"

Time to say goodnight:

Artist: Something Corporate Lyrics
Song: As You Sleep Lyrics

.
close your eyes, and I will be swimming
lullaby's fill your room, and I will be singing
singing to only you
dont forget I'll hold your head
watch the night sky fading red

but as you sleep, and noone is listening
I will lift you off your feet, I'll keep you from sinking
don't you wake up yet, cause soon I'll be leaving you
soon I'll be leaving you, but you won't be leaving me

in the car, the radio leaves me searching for your star
a constellation of frustration driving hard
singing my thoughts back to me, and watching heartache on TV

but as you sleep, and no one is listening
I will lift you off your feet, I'll keep you from sinking
don't you wake up yet, cause soon I'll be leaving you, soon i'll be leaving you
but you won't be leaving me

don't forget I'll hold your head, watch the night sky fading red

but as you sleep, and no one is listening
I will lift you off your feet, I'll keep you from sinking
don't you wake up yet, cause soon I'll be leaving you
soon I'll be leaving you, but you won't be leaving me.

Been beat up and battered 'round
Been sent up, and I've been shot down
You're the best thing that I've ever found
Handle me with care

Reputations changeable
Situations tolerable
Baby, you're adorable
Handle me with care

I'm so tired of being lonely
I still have some love to give
Won't you show me that you really care

Everybody's got somebody to lean on
Put your body next to mine, and dream on

I've been fobbed off, and I've been fooled
I've been robbed and ridiculed
In day care centers and night schools
Handle me with care

Been stuck in airports, terrorized
Sent to meetings, hypnotized
Overexposed, commercialized
Hand me with care

I'm so tired of being lonely
I still have some love to give
Won't you show me that you really care

Everybody's got somebody to lean on
Put your body next to mine, and dream on

I've been uptight and made a mess
But I'll clean it up myself, I guess
Oh, the sweet smell of success
Handle me with care

Piney Wood Hills - Buffy Sainte-Marie

I'm a rambler and a rover
and a wanderer it seems
I've traveled all over
chasing after my dreams
But a dream should come true
and a heart should be filled
and a life should be lived
in the piney wood hills

I'll return to the woodlands
I'll return to the snow
I'll return to the hills
and the valley below
I'll return like a poor man
or a king if God wills
but I'm on my way home
to the piney wood hills

I was raised on a song there
I done right I done wrong there
and it's true I belong there
and it's true it's my home

From ocean to ocean
I've rambled and roamed
and soon I'll return
to my piney wood home
Maybe someday I'll find
someone who will
love as I love my piney wood hills

I was raised on a song there
I done right I done wrong there
and it's true I belong there
and it's true it's my home

I'll return to the woodlands
I'll return to the snow
I'll return to the hills
and the valley below
I'll return like a poor man
or a king if God wills
but I'm on my way home
to the piney wood hills.

Screaming Lord Sutch....one of the above birthday boys......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screaming_Lord_Sutch

Leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party, his election manifesto's, among other great ideas, included.....

"giving the 18-year-olds the vote, abolishing the 11-plus school exams, installing special ramps on the backs of buses to help the elderly and disabled and requiring passports for pets. Monty Python's lampooning of The Loony Party in one of its shows couldn't begin to approach the whimsy of some of Sutch's more loony causes like giving large pets the vote, getting rid of January and February so that winters would be shorter and demoting John Major to Private. His views on whether there should be more than one Monopolies Commission also gave many pause for thought."

NB...The first five listed items have since been adopted.

http://elvispelvis.com/lordsutch.htm

Personally, I am pleased to note that his kindred spirits are doing so well in Kansas.
