can we have an encore?

TURANDOT
Atto III, Scena 1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Il Principe]
Nessun dorma!... Nessun dorma!...
Tu pure, o Principessa,
nella tua fredda stanza
guardi le stelle che tremano
d'amore e di speranza!
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun saprà!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò,
quando la luce splenderà!
Ed il mio bacio scoglierà
il silenzio che ti fa mia!

[Coro donne]
Il nome suo nessun saprà...
E noi dovrem ahimè, morir, morir!...

[Il Principe]
Dilegua, o notte! tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincerò!
Vincerò! Vincerò!

Mr. Turtle. I'll show you my translation, if you'll show me yours<smile>

and as we wait for Yit to git it, I just realized that tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11.

Where were you on that date, listeners?

eh, it's not my translation, but,

The Prince
No one sleeps, no one sleeps...
Even you, o Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars,
That tremble with love
And with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me;
My name no one shall know, no, no,
On your mouth I will speak it*
When the light shines,
And my kiss will dissolve the silence
That makes you mine.

Chorus
No one will know his name
And we must, alas, die.

The Prince
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars!
At daybreak, I shall conquer!

[*"On your mouth I will speak" means to kiss, according to the translator]

Yit, my friend. That is breathtakingly beautiful.

I just did a quick search and found Puccini's Turandot. Awesome opera, listeners.

And now, my part of the bargain:

To perform! In the throes of delirium
I don't know anymore
what I'm saying, what I'm doing!
Still... you must... force yourself!
Bah! Are you a man or not?
You're just a clown!
Put on your costume,
and make up your face.
People are paying, they want to laugh.
And when Arlecchino
takes away your Colombina,
laugh, you clown, and everyone will cheer!
Turn your agony and your tears
into buffoonery,
your sobbing and pain
into a funny grimace - Ah!
Laugh, you clown,
at your broken love.
Laugh at the pain which poisons your heart.

Pagliacci
text and music: Ruggero Leoncavallo (1857-1919). translation

Well, listeners, sorry to have to inform you, but some grouch from A Night at the Opera called in and requested some grand old opry stuff, so....

Hank Williams' Greatest Hits
Goodbye Joe, me gotta go, me oh my oh
Me gotta go pole the pirogue down the bayou
My Yvonne, the sweetest one, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we'll have good fun on the bayou

CHORUS:
Jambalaya, a-crawfish pie and-a file gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.

Instrumental Verse (Country Fiddle solo)

Thibodeaux, Fontainbleau, the place is buzzin'
Kinfolk come to see Yvonne by the dozen
Dress in style, go hog wild, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.

REPEAT CHORUS

Instrumental Verse (Country Fiddle solo)

FINAL CHORUS:
Jambalaya, a-crawfish pie and-a fillet gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.

From Rugero Leoncavallo, my prefered in German:

Why did you came?

Warum bist du gekommen
Wenn du schon wieder gehst,
Hast mir mein Herz genommen
Und wirfst es wieder weg,
Ich bin kein Bajazzo,
Bin auch ein Mensch wie du,
und leise schlägt mein Herz dir zu

Und liebst du einen andern,
So sag es bitte nicht,
Ich kann es nicht ertragen,
Mein Herz schlägt nur für dich,
Ich bin schon zufrieden
Wenn du die Hand mir reichst,
Und leise zu mir sagst: "vielleicht

Vielleicht warst du's im Leben
Ein guter Kamerad,
Vielleicht weißt du schon morgen,
Wie gern daß ich dich hab,
Vielleicht sagst du ja
Und vielleicht sagst du auch nein,
Vielleicht war unser Glück nur Schein.

.....GREETINGS LETTY OF THE LYRICS AND FELLOW STATION MEMBERS

Seeing as how it's September, how's about a seasonal song? This is my favorite from the season which probably has more songs than any other:

............................'TIS AUTUMN (My favorite version is by Gloria Lynne)

Old father time checked, so there'd be no doubt,
Then he called on the north wind, and said "Come on out,"
Then raised his head, proudly to shout,
La-de-da,la-de-dum,'tis Autumn,

The trees say they're tired, they've borne too much fruit,
They've charmed all the wayside, tthere's no dispute'
Now shedding leaves, don't give a hoot,
La-de-da,la-de-dum,'tis Autumn,

Then the birds got together,to talk about the weather,
La-da-dee, la-da-dee, la-da-dee-de-de-de-ee,
After making their decision, in birdie like precsion,
Turned about, and made a bee line to the sou-uth

So you see, my holding you close, is really no crime,
Ask the birds, ask the bees, ask old Father Time,
It's just to make the mercury climb,
La-da-de-la-da-dum, 'tis Autumn,

and my translation in French..

Pourquoi es-tu venu

Boo must have been in some French cafe.<smile>

Now I understand, Francis. That was the French and German translation of "I Pagliacci", companion to Enrico's aria.

Thank you, Paris.

Letty,
.....You're half right. I'm in an internet cafe. I'm here to stay. I'm just not on my home computor at the time. I'm going to a computor fair tomorrow. See if I can pick up something to expedite the process.

careful not to spill coffee on the keyboard, booman. ;-) i admire the nerve of people who use laptops in cafes, although you're probably on a desktop PC.

Oh, my goodness, Boo. Just sue. Laughing

Ah, me, listeners. What is the name of that song that our Boo just quoted?

It will be in my head for the rest of the day:

Let's listen to Robbie Williams:

Well Did You Evah

I have heard among this clan,
You are called the forgotten man
(is that what they're saying, well did you evah!)
(what a swell party this is)

And have you heard the story of,
A boy, a girl, unrequited love
(sounds like pure soap opera, tune in tomorrow) I
may cry
(what a swell party this is)

(what frails, what frocks) What broads!
(what furs, what rocks!) They're bootiful.
(Why I've never seen such gaity) Neither have I.
(Its all just too, too risque really)

This french champagne (domestic)
(so good for the brain) Thats what I was going to
say.
(you know you're a brilliant fellow?) Why thank
you
(pick up jack. please don't eat that glass my friend)

(Have you heard, about dear Blanche?)
(Got run down by an avalanche) No!
(oh don't worry, shes a game girl you know, got
up and finished 4th)
The kids got guts. (Having a nice time? Grab a
line!)

Have you heard that Mimsie Starr (what now)
She got pinched in the Astor bar
(sloshed again, eh?) She was stoned.
Well, did you evah? (Never!)
What a swell party this is!

Hey, check out that act! (That's a lovely dress.
You think I can talk her out of it?)

It's great, (aah it's great)
so grand! (so grand)
It's wonderland!
la da da da......

(We sing), oh we sing
(so rare) so rare
(Like old camembert)
(Like baba au rhum!)
Don't dig that kind of crooning chum!

Have you heard? It's in the stars
Next July we collide with Mars.
Well, did you evah?
What a swell party, a swell party
A swelligant, elegant party this is!

(I drink to your health)
Naw, lets drink to your wealth
(You're my bon'amie) hey, thats french
A liberty fraternity

Have you heard? It's in the stars
Next July we collide with Mars.
Well, did you evah?
What a swell party, swell party
Swelligant, elegant party this is!

Your eyes don't shine like they used to shine
And the thrill is gone when your lips meet mine

I'm afraid the masquerade is over
And so is love, and so is love
Your love and so is love
I guess I'll have to play Pagliacci and get myself a clown's disguise
And learn to laugh like Pagliacci with tears in my eyes
You look the same
You're a lot the same
But my heart says "No, no, you're not the same"

I'm affraid the masquerade is over
And so is love, and so is love
Your words don't mean what they used to me
They were once inspired, now they're just routine

I'm afraid the masquerad is over,
And so is love,
And so is love.

Then, of course, there's Leon Russell's masquerade.

Tonight on our TVs we have the famous "Last Night Of The Proms" which is also on Radio 3, but does not seem to be on Radio WA2K this year.

"The Proms" of course are the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts held at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London, and are nothing to do with American teenagers. Well not directly, anyway.

Andrea Bocelli has just had a bit of a sing.

There's a verse missing here...I have trouble with it myself.
The last line is:"What was once inspired, is now just routine"
