Ah, Diane. You are one dear friend. Thanks, honey, for the lyrics. That makes two of you who are sweet. The other being Bob of Boston. <smile>

Now about dyslexia being the antichrist. We're gonna have to give him a green tea ceremony. Heard about that from my neighbor across the street who recently returned from Japan, and loved it.

Any more requests out there?

Green Tea, now that's another thing we can dismiss right off the bat. I drink only black tea (preferably Assam Superb) as we say here in the old west, Good taste is timeless. (but thanks for the thoughty offer ms letty-betty.

Yes, I would have answered Rex's question before, but have been a little tardy and see Raggedy(?) has already anwered it- "There But For Fortune"

Joan Baez sang it so beautifully, in her ethereal, pure voice.

Letty if you listen carefully Mick Jagger is singing backup in "You're so Vain"...

James Taylor sings on the album and is given credit, Paul Mccartney sings on the album and is given credit but Jagger is not mentioned in the credits...

Yet Jagger's voice is clearly recognizable.

Also
I once heard the song was about Warren Beatty...

Well, my goodness. There's our McTag. Would you care for another cup of tea, dear? What a nice way to describe Joan's voice, Brit.

Now I have a question. Was it Joan Baez who wrote about Janis Joplin's death in a song? Something about "....in the misty morning...."

Let's listen one more by Joan Baez:

Gracias a la vida - Thank life.

Graba noche y día grillos y canarios
Martillos, turbinas, ladridos, chubascos,

the two first couplets translating as:

Thank you,Life, you mean too much to me this time
You let me see with my eyes, of this world, black and white
Raise my eyes, stars sparkling higher in the blue sky
My lover, I found him in the people with my own eyes"…

Beautiful, Francis. Now we have all of our European friends on the radio.

Listeners, I really wanted to have a couple of news items about the recent air tragedies, but I'm certain that most of you are aware of it. I just hate to spoil the upward spiral.

Sheesh! This is romantic.I'm going to have to get a dipper switch in here then I can turn the lights way down low when I read this thread.

I hope you know that I'm not much inclined to romanticism.Maybe I'll get converted.I'd have to change my name though if I did.Luciano or Sylvestre with a / over the e.

In Charlotte Town not far from here
There is a fair maid dwellin'
Her name is known both far and near
Her name is Barbara Allen.

What a song.400 years old.I read a book about it.
Might have been done at the Globe I suppose.

As CJ will tell if asked it is now my time for my meds.3-4 pints and some leering.

Rex, I had heard that Mick and James were doing the background on that song. Love it. Thanks for the reminder, buddy.

Hey, spendius. We call it a togle switch, and I have one of them dials that automatically turns the lights down low. Right, wicked Barbara Allen. Alas and alack.

Hey, folks. I found the Baez song about Janis:

In The Quiet Morning

(The Earth Pressed Flat)

In the quiet morning
There was much despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
Tossed by the tides of misfortune
Barely here to tell her tale
Rolled in on a sea of disaster
Rolled out on a mainline rail

She once walked tight at my side
I'm sure she walked by you
Her striding steps could not deny
Torment from a child who knew

That in the quiet morning
There would be despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
She cried out her song so loud
It was heard the whole world round
A symphony of violence
The great southwest unbound

Do It Again
Steely Dan

In the mornin you go gunnin'
For the man who stole your water
And you fire till he is done in
But they catch you at the border
And the mourners are all singin'
As they drag you by your feet
But the hangman isn't hangin'
And they put you on the street

CHORUS:
You go back Jack do it again
Wheel turnin' 'round and 'round
You go back Jack do it again

When you know she's no high climber
Then you find your only friend
In a room with your two timer
And you're sure you're near the end
Then you love a little wild one
And she brings you only sorrow
All the time you know she's smilin'
You'll be on your knees tomorrow

CHORUS

Now you swear and kick and beg us
That you're not a gamblin' man
Then you find you're back in Vegas
With a handle in your hand
Your black cards can make you money
So you hide them when you're able
In the land of milk and honey
You must put them on the table

CHORUS

Hey, Canada. Great song! Reminds me of Kenny Rogers, somehow.

Now we must have a dedication for dys:

Bringing in black tea,
Bringing in black tea,
We will come rejoicing,
Bringing in black tea.

Bringing in black tea,
Bringing in black tea.
We will come rejoicing,
Bringing in black tea.

How's that, cowboy?

Thanks for all those great songs melodies!

It's too early for most of you, but YOU can sing it later

Sleep, baby, sleep!
Thy father guards the sheep,
Thy mother shakes the dreamland tree,
And from it fall sweet dreams for thee.
Sleep, baby, sleep!

Sleep, baby, sleep!
Across the sky roam sheep.
The stars are little baby lambs,
They're herded by the moon's kind hands.
Sleep, baby, sleep!

Sleep, baby, sleep!
To you, I'll give a sheep,
And with a little golden bell,
It'll play with you and stories tell.
Sleep, baby, sleep!

Sleep, baby, sleep!
Away now, guard the sheep,
Away with you, black sheepdog fine,
And don't you wake this baby mine!
Sleep, baby, sleep!

Words and music by Bob Seger

The Fire Inside

There's a hard moon risin' on the streets tonight
There's a reckless feeling in your heart as you head out tonight
Through the concrete canyons to the midtown light
Where the latest neon promises are burning bright

Past the open windows on the darker streets
Where unseen angry voices flash and children cry
Past the phony posers with their worn out lines
The tired new money dressed to the nines
The low life dealers with their bad designs
And the dilettantes with their open minds

You're out on the town, safe in the crowd
Ready to go for the ride
Searching the eyes, looking for clues
There's no way you can hide
The fire inside

Well you've been to the clubs and the discotheques
Where they deal one another from the bottom of a deck of promises
Where the cautious loners and emotional wrecks
Do an acting stretch as a way to hide the obvious
And the lights go down and they dance real close
And for one brief instant they pretend they're safe and warm

Then the beat gets louder and the mood is gone
The darkness scatters as the lights flash on
They hold one another just a little too long
And they move apart and then move on

On to the street, on to the next
Safe in the knowledge that they tried
Faking the smile, hiding the pain
Never satisfied
The fire inside
Fire inside

Now the hour is late and he thinks you're asleep
You listen to him dress and you listen to him leave
Like you knew he would
You hear his car pull away in the street
Then you move to the door and you lock it when
He's gone for good

Then you walk to the window and stare at the moon
Riding high and lonesome through a starlit sky
And it comes to you how it all slips away
Youth and beauty are gone one day
No matter what you dream or feel or say
It ends in dust and disarray

Like wind on the plains, sand through the glass
Waves rolling in with the tide
Dreams die hard and we watch them erode
But we cannot be denied
The fire inside

The World's On Fire
The Housemartins

There's a couple sunbathing on a freshly mown lawn in England
It's a house with a view and all you see is green and blue for miles
The local Vicar has pretended that the church is well attended this morning,
As he wanders without purpose to the Sunday Service he smiles.

Chorus:
(Oh-ho!) What a beautiful morning.
(Oh-ho!) What a beautiful day.
(Oh-ho!) What a sickening feeling.
It took this long to make it, now we re throwing it away

Now, I was told not to play with fire,
I said, look out Church the flames grow higher.
I said, watch those flames lick that spire,
I said, look out Church the flames grow higher
(The World's on fire).

There's a curtain closed early in an upstairs room in England.
There's a couple misbehaving when they should've been praising Sunday.
And there's a bounce in the walk and the neighbors stop to talk for hours
And when eyebrows are raised at the next song of praise come Monday.

Chorus.

Still On Fire
Aztec Camera

I'm in love with everything
That breaks the grip of caution
On our getting up and leaving
For a bigger day, still some say
That all you need is money
To be free from what is poor
Well that's the lie of looking up
From somewhere down.

Chorus:
Because the sun will show to testify
That all the time between belongs to you and I,
To be still on fire,
And when the strongest words have all been used
And all the new ones sound confused,
To be still on fire.

Somewhere in the middle
We could see through all the people
And be playing second fiddle
And be feeling sore,
Shown the door.
To chase out all the child in you
Is throwing out the baby for the
Chance to make it easy to be more.

Chorus

dj, The world's on fire and still on fire. Yes, Canada, I fear that you are right.

Once again, listeners, our dj has presented us with a study in scarlet. Thanks, my friend.

Well, folks. We are all in it together, you know. Whatever our color; what ever our creed; we find that each needs the other in our vast case of need.

in another part of this forum, a bunch of our fellow A2K'ers are standing in a line

johnny wants to sing them a song

I Walk the Line
Johnny Cash

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine,
I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine,
I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine,
I walk the line

You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine,
I walk the line

WHEN MEXICAN JOE MET JOLE BLON
Recorded by Hank Snow
Writter by Sheb Wooley

[C] When [F] Mexican Joe met Jole [C] Blon
Si, Si, [G7] Si, oui, oui, how they carried [C] on
He [F] held her tight and danced all night
And [C] crossed the border at daylight
When [G7] Mexican Joe met Jole [C] Blon.

Mexican Joe was wild and reckless
He walked into a honky-tonk in Texas
Looking for some real romance and pettin'
On a barroom stool alone this doll was settin'

He walked up to the bar and said, "I think I'll have a drink
Three fingers of tequilla; will clear my head, I think."
Well, she looked around and caught his eye
And Joe said, "I ... yi, yi, yi, yi."
When Mexican Joe met Jole Blon.

Joe said, "Lovely senorita
Let's go out and paint the town."
So he danced her and romanced her
And he showed that gal around
Jole Blon said, "I'm so hungry."
And she breathed a little sigh
So he fed her filet gumbo, enchiladas, on the side.

Then he held her close and whispered
"Will you be mine for life?
She said, "Oui, monsieur, but tell me
What'll we do about your wife?"
But he shouted, "Ah, Caramba
I think I'd better go."
So he swam he swam across the river
And went back to Mexico.

Repeat 1st verse.
