The horn really is from Charlemagne's time.

The sword is from about 1050 and was used until 14th century as the crowning sword for the French (sic!) kings.

The bust is from 14th century and mirrors how Charlemagne was viewed in those days.
The crown is the original one of emperor Lothor, given by him to the cathedral.
Inside the bust are cranial bones "of a male Franconian person from about 800".

Well, folks. Since Walter was kind enough to show us the fabulous Charlemagne and accouterments, the least we can do is dedicate a song to them both:

Artist: Preps Four
Song: Charmaine

I wonder why you keep me waiting
Charlemagne my Charlemagne.
I wonder when bluebirds are mating
Will you come back again

I wonder if I keep on praying
Will all our dreams come true.
I wonder if you ever think of me, too
I'm waiting my Charlemagne for you.

Well, listeners. I did alter the lyrics a bit, could you tell?

I have been preoccupied with other things than a2k the last few days and had no chance to tune into my favorite radio
station, but luckily the transcript was available to read back to Wink

I hope you don't mind, but I am in the mood for something stupid Laughing

I know I stand in line,
until you think you have the time
To spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance,
I know that there's a chance
You won't be leaving with me

And afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
And have a drink or two
And then I go and spoil it all,
by saying something stupid
Like: "i love you"

I can see it in your eyes,
that you despise the same old lies
You heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you,
for me it's true
It never seemed so right before

I practice every day to find some clever lines to say
To make the meaning come through
But then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late
And I'm alone with you

The time is right your perfume fills my head,
the stars get red
And oh the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all,
by saying something stupid
Like: "i love you"
("i love you, I love you,...")

What a coincidence. Here am I sat reading Keir Elam's The Semiotics of Theatre and Drama.

It's been a long time
Since a strange woman slept in my bed
See how sweet she sleeps
How free must be her dreams
In another lifetime
She must have owned the world
Or been faithfully wed
To some righteous king
Who wrote psalms
Beside moonlit streams.

Hey, Jane. I know that song, honey. Please do be stupid on WA2K, cause we always love hearing your music whether it be the three B's or not.

Well, well, here's spendius. Welcome, Brit. That is a lovely piece, right listeners? I especially like the last two lines: "...who wrote psalms besides moonlit streams...." Sounds like my kind of nocturnal stuff. <smile>

I'm not familiar with Elam, however; but thanks for introducing us.

Just where is your counterpart, Mathos?

How would I know where that daft bozo is?I know he flattered you up a bit.Are you missing him?

Don't you know my quote. It's from I and I.I have a bootleg video of Dylan singing it at Newcastle's famous St James' Park football stadium.(Since closed). It was amazing. He sang it on most '84 gigs.
He did some wierd dancing too.

What's this thread about?(And no about 969 pages jokes.)

This, my dear I and I, is a virtual radio station, and tries to simulate the actual thing. I created it for the purpose of including all countries.

Nope, I didn't realize that was a Dylan tune. edgarblythe is our resident Dylan maven. As for Mathos, I enjoyed his discussion on Free Masonry, and all women like sincere flattery, right Jane?

Any requests spendius?

Hey, Tico. Glad to see you back in our studio. Yep! Thanks to you and the rest of our contributors we can discuss and request and do the news without fear of pointed reprisal.

Here's a song for all you Brits by England Dan:

Hello, yea its been a while
Not much, how 'bout u
I'm not sure why I called
I guess I really just wanted to talk to you
And I was thinking maybe later on
We could get together for a while
It's been such a long time
And I really do miss your smile

I'm not talking bout moving in
And I dont wanna change your life
But there's a warm wind blowing
The stars are out
And I'd really love to see you tonight

We could go walking through a windy park
Take a drive along the beach
Or stay at home and watch TV
You see it really doesn't matter much to me

I won't ask for promises
So you dont have to lie
We both played that game before
Say I love you then say goodbye

Repeat chorus.

Winkin Blinkin & Nod

Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod, one night Sailed off in a wooden shoe;
Sailed on a river of crystal light into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going and what do you wish?" the old moon asked the three.
"We've come to fish for the herring fish that live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we" said Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod.

The old moon laughed and he sang a song as they rocked in the wooden shoe.
And the wind that sped them all night long ruffled the waves of dew.
Now the little stars are the herring fish that live in that beautiful sea;
"Cast your nets wherever you wish never afeared are we!"
So cried the stars to the fishermen three - Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod.

So all night long their nets they threw to the stars in the twinkling foam.
Then downward came the wooden shoe bringing the fishermen home.
Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed as if it could not be.
And some folks say twas a dream they dreamed of sailing that misty sea.
But I shall name you the fishermen three - Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod.

Now Winkin' and Blinkin' are two little eyes and Nod is a little head.
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies is a wee ones trundle bed.
So close your eyes while mother sings of the wonderful sights that be.
And you shall see those beautiful things as you sail on the misty sea
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three - Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod.

Comment:
Have you ever heard Carly and Lucy Simon sing this song?

Carly and Lucy Simon sang that, Rex? I am amazed! but I do love it!

Well, a choir member and friend of mine wrote a cute one. Let's see if I can remember it folks:

School daze; school daze,
Dear old time gone by school daze,
Reading and writing and pragmatism,
Taught to the tune of our television.

You were my hippy flower bow,
I was your gal in buffalo,
You wrote on my slate,
Let yourself go,

When we were a couple of exhibitionists.

When I first came on,newly hatched-gee I like that-it was Letty who greeted me first. You can imagine how nervous I was setting out to do fliphopothy with some high powered Yanks and Letty put me at my ease straight away, for which a belated thanks.
If I had Bob doing Going Down To New Orleans I'd put it on.

I'll get the feel of it if you bear with a grumpy Limey yokel for a bit.

Yes Carly and Lucy made a full length LP of that song and some others...

Carly had a deep voice (alto) and Lucy was the headliner...

"When they were a couple of kids"... Smile

Spendius, you are so right about Letty. She is everyone's friend, always gentle, kind and considerate. Hm, wonder how she has survived on a2k all this time?

Letty, I found the lyrics you wanted:

I'll take romance
While my heart is young and eager to fly
I'll give my heart a try
I'll take romance

I'll take romance
While my arms are strong and eager for you
I'll give my arms their cue
I'll take romance

So, my lover when you want me call me
In the hush of the evening
When you call me in the hush of the evening

I'll rush to my first real romance
While my heart is young and eager and gay
I'll give my heart away
I'll take romance

Instrumental break replaces first line of next verse

While my arms are strong and eager for you
I'll give my arms their cue
I'll take romance

So, my lover when you want me call me
In the hush of the evening
When you call me in the hush of the evening

I'll rush to my first real romance
While my heart is strong and eager and gay
I'll give my heart away
I'll take romance

I'll take romance ...
I'll take romance ...

Music by Ben Oakland, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
From the Broadway musical "I'll Take Romance" (1937)

spendius, indeed I do remember greeting you on the forum. As I recall I suggested you try Harvard since Bush managed to make it. Never did understand about the philosophy dept. at Cambridge, however.<smile>

Rex, thanks for your Carly clarification. I still like "You're So Vain" by her, and she's not about to divulge who the guy is that was soooooo vain. Glad you liked the spoof, Maine.

Hey, how about a little of that early song:

The Lyrics
You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and....

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive
Well you said that we made such a pretty pair
and that you would never leave

But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee, clouds in my coffee and....

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you.....

Well I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all of the time
And when you're not you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and....

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you.....

She has a particular style, that gal does, listeners.
