Good morning, all of you out there in WA2K radio land.

C.I. keeps us laughing with his jokes and witty observations, and we appreciate his special brand of humor.

For all you crossword fans out there, and especially Raggedy, here's a little poem:

Cut the paper
Hold and tie
Sentenced to this job am I.
Wonder could a legal chap,
Find a way to beat the wrap.

Very Happy

Tonight's the night, folks. If you plan to celebrate, get a stretch limo and leave the driving to someone sober.

This from Harry Connik, Jr.

I see my own reflection in the window
I hear the people carry'n on below
I know the one I love is out there somewhere
To me that somewhere's not far to go

Ev'ry year I make my resolution
To find my love and make her all my own
But it looks like she decided not to show again
And I'll be singing 'Auld Lang Syne' alone

People grow accustomed to their lifestyles
It's easier to settle in your ways
I wish that I had someone to get used to
To settle down until my dying days

Nothin' new for new year for me
Nothin' new for new year for me
All I wanted was an angel that I don't expect to see
Nothin' new for new year for me

It don't mean nothing if you're crying all the time
And there's no one there to see your tears
And it don't mean nothing if you're passing up your prime
And I been passing mine for years

And so, to my reflection in the window
I'll raise my glass and make a toast to you
I've never known a man to be heartbroken
My someone that he never even knew

Nothin' new for new year for me
Nothin' new for new year for me
All I wanted was an angel that I don't expect to see
Nothin' new for new year for me

I'm just happy that my job tonight has changed locations so I can taxi it out there, rather than drive with a bunch of drunken idiots on the road.

A man is speeding down the highway, listening to the radio, when a breaking news story comes on. "Warning, there is a drunk driver speeding on the highway in the wrong direction."

The man says "One? Heck, there are hundreds of 'em!"

Harry Connik, Jr.. I haven't decided if I like his piano playing or not, edgar. but the song is wistful and lovely.

Cav. Wow! I'm glad that you got that break, too, and your little joke was soooooooo true. I can't tell you how fearful I was after a New Year's gig was over, and the long drive home.

Letty, drivers in this city are bad enough on a good day. We would have had to borrow the folks car too. All in all, I'm happy. I know my taxi guys very well (newish company, I was one of their first customers) so they will treat me well.

Ladies and gentlemen, please note Cav's trust in the taxi, and if you can't afford a stretch limo, ask him for the number to his trusted cab co. Of course, one must live in Toronto. It is so mild and lovely in my neck of the woods here in Florida. I may do just what I did during the Y2K scare. Walk out on the golf course and watch the fireworks (if any).

If I run in to Tiger Woods, I'll remind him that we recognized his birthday here on WA2K radio, and perhaps he'll sign one of the many, many golf balls that I have retrieved over time. Next year, I think I'll make a golf ball tree with a tee on top. Razz

Wow. A lovely poem by Letty and coffee and doughnuts from Montana, and music. Isn't this the greatest radio station ever?

Let's all drink a toast to W2AK
The greatest station in the USA
I'll let the poets here supply the next words
Cause this listener's poetry is for the birds.

Happy December 31 Birthday to:

1930 Odetta, singer/musician (Birmingham, AL)
1937 Anthony Hopkins, actor (Port Talbot, South Wales)
1941 Sarah Miles, actress (Ingatestone, England)
Ben Kingsley, actor (Yorkshire, England) (I guess Ben doesn't like people to know when he was born)
1946 Patti Smith, singer (Chicago, IL)
1947 Tim Matheson, actor (Glendale, CA)
1948 Donna Summer, singer (Boston, MA)
1958 Bebe Neuwirth, actress (Princeton, NJ)
1959 Val Kilmer, actor (Los Angeles, CA)

Montana, how could we NOT forgive you, you dear thing. Okay staff. Here they are, freshly baked from a Canadian oven.

There used to be a place in Virginia called The Dutch Oven. Everything was made right there on the primises. My mom's favorite was butterscotch pie. Ah, me. Nothing's like it used to be. (In a way, I'm sorta glad).

Anyone ever hear of Cross and Blackwell's plum pudding? It used to be an English thing, and now Nestle's owns it.

New Year's Eve tradition. Boil cabbage with a new penny in it.

Boil that cabbage down, down,
Turn them hoe cakes round, round,
The only song that I can sing is
Boil that cabbage down.

Here's the melody:

And you have every reason to brag, Letty. Love that song. I like "Sunshine on My Shoulders, too and, etc., etc., etc.

Now, how about finishing my toast to WA2K unless, of course, you'd prefer waiting until Midnight. Very Happy

Ok, Raggedy. Since I will probably be abed at midnight, I'll try to finish your toast.

Raggedy's poem is not for the birds,
A toast to the station that often gets heard.
Please don't touch nor turn that dial,
Nor trash it in the thirteen file.

Here's to the bull that roams the wood,
And does the cows and heifers good..

Oops, wrong toast. Razz

Some say that heaven is beyond the blue,
But I've done some looking, and I don't think that's true.
Lookin' up from the flatlands, birds and clouds floating by,
I'd say that heaven is about a thousand feet high.
It's my
Home in the sky, my home in the sky,
The hawk makes the circles through which the swallows fly.
When the world is too much down on my back I lie,
And look up with longin' at my home in the sky.

Well I don't need no angels with big shakin' wings,
Or halos or harps or none of those things.
I just want to do what the thunderheads do,
And see the sunset and the moonrise from a new point of view.
And that's my
Home in the sky, my home in the sky,
The hawk makes the circles through which the swallows fly.
And sometimes I wanna leave the sad little details,
And put my crow's nest up and stretch out my sails.
But when my life is over and it's time to go,
I'd like to see how they're all doing below.
From my
Home in the sky, my home in the sky,
The hawk makes the circles through which the swallows fly.

dys, That song hit me right in the heart. I haven't heard the expression thunderhead used to describe clouds in such a long time. The line about the hawk making a circle for the lark to fly through........Do you know that I can see that? Really.

Listeners--didn't that make your soul soar?

I have always like Don McLean's American Pie, but I was amazed to read an explication of it on the web. The person compared that opus to Poe and Frost.
