Well, re Lalo Schifrin and hi, Letty.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lalo_Schifrin

Meantime, I may be the only living person who heard Coltrane live on a first date and didn't like it one bit. Such noise! I was then 2o, about to turn 21..

Good morning from our radio station in Florida.

Osso/Jo, Thanks for that info. Amazing that you have seen John Coltrane. Great musician.

euroGeorge, Love that song by that lady. I Can't stand the rain sometimes; other times it's great.

Two comparison songs for the morning here.

First, Van the Man.

@eurocelticyankee,
euro, that was a great one by Moby. Didn't know the performer, so once again, thanks for the introduction.

There was a little baby at St. James. It died after it was born.

I used to refer to songs that I know, and don't know why I know them. Now I realize why. I taught the evolution of music in my history class.

Do you know this one, Irish?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbjpyrdhPbM

and, the lyrics:

A Spanish cavalier stood in his retreat,
And on his guitar play'd a tune, dear;
The music so sweet they'd oft-times repeat.
The blessing of my country and you, dear.

Chorus.
Say, darling, say, when I'm far away.
Sometimes you may think of me, dear;
Bright sunny days will soon fade away,
Remember what I say and be true, dear.

I'm off to the war, to the war I must go,
To fight for my country and you, dear;
But if I should fall in vain, I would call
The blessing of my country and you, dear.-Chorus.

When the war is o'er to you I'll return.
Back to my country and you, dear;
But if I be slain, you may seek me in vain,
Upon the battle-field you will find me.

Once again, Calling all music lovers, musicians, painters and poets.

Our poem for today:

My Star;
Robert Browning
All, that I know
Of a certain star
Is, it can throw
(Like the angled spar)
Now a dart of red,
Now a dart of blue
Till my friends have said
They would fain see, too,
My star that dartles the red and the blue!
Then it stops like a bird; like a flower, hangs furled:
They must solace themselves with the Saturn above it.
What matter to me if their star is a world?
Mine has opened its soul to me; therefore I love it

@George,
Quote:
(Polly Ester)

I think that was the joke, i.e. it's a stage name. Very 80's... It may have been a factor in why she did not last much... The name had a ring of artificiality.

er, Frenchman, why not reply to all.

Izz with a y. Great tribute to Nelson

(Afrikaans: “apartness” or “separateness”) Policy of racial segregation and political and economic discrimination against non-European groups in South Africa. I didn't realize that Nelson spent 30 years in jail.

Hi Miss Letty,
I do indeed know The Spanish Cavalier, heartwarming music.
Love Janis too.

I'm a big fan of The Specials and am planning to go see them in Nov.

@eurocelticyankee,
Hey, Irish. Don't know that one by Fun Boys Three, but but they were great. Always like what you play here.

Glad you liked The Spanish Cavalier, too.

What a surprise, y'all. Here is more info on Bobby McGee.

My Star
"Me and Bobby McGee" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, originally performed by Roger Miller. Others performed the song later, including the Grateful Dead, Kristofferson himself, and Janis Joplin who topped the U.S. singles chart with the song in 1971 after her death, making the song the second posthumous number-one single in U.S. chart history after "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding.

"freedom's just another name for nothing else to lose". What if that is true.

Here's Roger's version.
