@edgarblythe,
That ship of Dreams was fantastic. I have heard that one somewhere before. Wonder what the background is on it.

Well, from ship of dreams to street of dreams, edgar.

@edgarblythe,
I'm Always Dreaming of You was great, edgar. Didn't know that one, so once again, thanks for the introduction.

Thanks for the message of the Titantic.

Another Ship. I never hear this one that I don't think of Bob (the hawk man) Smith. Jes called him the silver fox.

good evening msletty , ed and all listeners to WA2K Radio !

today is the birthday of a well-known singer : Lou Reed .

Quote:
Lewis Allan "Lou" Reed (March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013) was an American musician, singer and songwriter.[1] After serving as guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter of the Velvet Underground, his solo career spanned several decades.

The Velvet Underground was a commercial failure in the late 1960s, but the group gained a considerable cult following in the years since its demise and has gone on to become one of the most widely cited and influential bands of the era[2] – hence Brian Eno's famous quote that while the Velvet Underground's debut album only sold 30,000 copies, "everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band."[3]

After his departure from the group, Reed began a solo career in 1972. He had a hit the following year with "Walk on the Wild Side", but subsequently lacked the mainstream commercial success its chart status seemed to indicate.[4] Reed was known for his distinctive deadpan voice, poetic lyrics and for pioneering and coining the term ostrich guitar tuning.[5]

In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time included two albums by Reed as a solo artist, Transformer and Berlin

today is also the birthday of Karen Carpenter - who ( unfortunately ) had a very short life .

Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 – February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer. She and her brother, Richard, formed the 1970s duo, the Carpenters. Although her skills as a drummer earned admiration from drumming luminaries and peers, she is best known for her vocal performances. She had a contralto vocal range.[1]

Carpenter suffered from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder which was little known at the time. She died at age 32 from heart failure caused by complications related to her illness.[2] Carpenter's death led to increased visibility and awareness of eating disorders

@hamburgboy,
Sleep well, Herr hbg. Actually, Karen's brother said that she died of cardiac arrest cause by the forced feeding. The first one that I remember by her was "Close to You".

Up early this morning and it's still dark in our Florida radio station. Chicago says it for me.

Here's a tribute to Chief Joseph whose birthday is today, but first some info.

Set in 1877, the story follows Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe, who lived in the border area of Idaho and Oregon. As President Ulysses S. Grant permits white settlers to come to both territories, the native Nez Perce fights back and defy the order from Grant to leave their home ground. The U.S. Army, commanded by General Oliver Howard (a Civil War Veteran) is then sent out to push the tribe out, leading to war. The fight between whites (both soldiers and settlers) and tribe members increases, leading Joseph to try for an escape to Canada, but deep down he fears a long, costly fight with a tough enemy. As he says to one tribesmen who killed a white man for another tribe member's murder on the eve of war, "You have had your revenge. Now the white man will have his"

"I will fight no more, forever"
