@Letty,
I wishyou folks a happy and healthy 2014. Your thread remiinds me how backward I am regarding our more sophisticated popular culture.

edgar, I like Billy's Shifting Whispering sands.

Hey, pushman although we declared it desert day inspired by you, it's okay to deviate from the normal occasionally. Love that Afro American group doing that song. Didn't know them, so thanks for the introduction.

Another deviation, y'all.

Ska is the original skinhead music, formed when white working class British lads went out clubbing with their black workmates. It's all about racial harmony and most good ska bands are two tone. There are still a lot of genuine decent skinheads about. When I went on a march in Winchester protesting about the bus company's decision to employ the 2nd in command of the far right BNP as a bus driver, about half of my fellow marchers were skinheads. Skinheads like Buster.

You can't have ska without a few rude boys.

This is another band that never really got as far as they should. I was one of the groupies, saw them more often than I can remember. I might have been at this gig, can't really remember.

hbg, Winter Daydreams, Johnny Mathis, and Habanera were great. It's cold and rainy here, too.

More synchronisity, pushman. I awakened early and The Twilight Zone was on. Ali Baba's Camel was funny.

Two birthday guys, y'all.

First, Mel Gibson.

@Letty,
The line Out for what we all want, lots of LSD, does not refer to drugs. It's from the days before Britain's currency went decimal. LSD refers to Pounds L, Shillings S and Pence, D. 20 shillings to the pound and 12 pence to the shilling. Very complicated, and the only reason it lasted so long is because we like seeing the confused look on tourist's faces. D (decimalisation) day happened on 15th Feb 1971, and this is what was number one in the charts. On reflection, it's best forgotten.

Thanks for the clarification regarding LSD, pushman. Love that one by Clive Dunn. The British accent always fascinates me. I had to go get some more rest, so I'm not as groggy as I was.

edgar, thanks for your comment, and I love that Donavon Mandolin Man song.

Another birthday man, y'all.

Sergione Leone and his theme from a movie.

@Letty,
Clive Dunn only died this year. He was best known for the role of Corporal Jones in the comedy series Dad's Army, about the Home Guard.

He played a very old man, but was actually one of the younger members of the cast which is why he lasted so long. This has been voted the funniest line in a sitcom.
