good morning msletty , ed and all others out in WA2K Radio land !

today is the birthday of Randy Newman - a fine musician .

Quote:
Randall Stuart "Randy" Newman (born November 28, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter,[1] arranger, composer, and pianist who is known for his distinctive voice, mordant (and often satirical) pop songs and for film scores.

Since the 1980s, Newman has worked mostly as a film composer. His film scores include Ragtime, Awakenings, The Natural, Leatherheads, James and the Giant Peach, Meet the Parents, Cold Turkey, Seabiscuit and The Princess and the Frog. He has scored seven Disney-Pixar films: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Cars, Toy Story 3, and most recently, Monsters University.

Newman has been nominated for 20 Academy Awards, winning twice. He has also won three Emmys, six Grammy Awards, and the Governor's Award from the Recording Academy.[2] Newman was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002. good afternoon to all !

Ethel Innis - a fine jazzsinger - has her birthday today .

Dreamer , Dreamer - Lullaby for Losers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxx4unjdJP0

Quote:
Ethel Llewellyn Ennis (born November 28, 1932, in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American jazz musician.

Ethel Ennis began performing on the piano in high school, but her natural vocal abilities soon eclipsed those as a pianist. Embarking on a solo career, she recorded a number of sides for Atlantic Records before the Lp debut, 1955's Lullabies for Losers was released by Jubilee Records. In 1957, Ennis moved to the Capitol Records label for a two-album contract, and A Change of Scenery was released. Soon after the 1958 follow-up Lp Have You Forgotten, Ennis took a six-year hiatus from recording during which she toured Europe with Benny Goodman.

I wish I could acknowledge each contribution, but suffice it to say I listened to them all., and as you know, my way of thanking you is to thumb you up.

So nice having euroGeorge with us as well as Latin George and hbg (Ontario vis Germany)

Always enjoy Trying2learn.

Edgar, and Elvis are a nice combination.

First, a personal anecdote. Today is the day we took my Dad to the family cemetery. The weather was terrible and I recall his having found a dog in the snow with frost bitten paws. He discovered the dog because of his howling. He called him Snowball.

As we returned from the cemetery, we heard him howl again, and found him dead in the snow.

So sorry that Rockhead didn't like my funny Blondie song.

First, a memory of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Kevin Spacey was and is one of my favorite actors.

We know that the pushman, loves Johnny Mercer, so here is my song by him

He and Hoagy wrote the music and the lyrics.

If this turn our to be Blondie again, I'm sorry as I had our editor to do his thing three times. Suffice it to say that Bobby Darin did the one that I wanted to play.

Now, the Loon song. Found out that it is an aquatic bird.

With love to all of you, from Letty with same

good morning to all - from a cool ... Cool ... eastern Ontario - minus 15 C ... Shocked ...

to warm things up here is Merle - 16 tons - Travis - it's his birthday today .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pfVvqLM_e4

Quote:
Merle Robert Travis (November 29, 1917 – October 20, 1983) was an American country and Western singer, songwriter, and musician born in Rosewood, Kentucky. His lyrics often discussed the life and exploitation of coal miners. Among his many well-known songs are "Sixteen Tons", "Re-Enlistment Blues" and "Dark as a Dungeon". However, it is his masterly guitar playing and his interpretations of the rich musical traditions of his native Muhlenberg County, Kentucky for which he is best known today. "Travis picking", a syncopated style of finger picking, is named after him. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1977.

@Letty,
good morning msletty !
today is the birthday of a musician who - i'm sure - both you and ed know .

Quote:
William Thomas "Billy" Strayhorn (November 29, 1915 – May 31, 1967) was an American jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, and arranger, best known for his successful collaboration with bandleader and composer Duke Ellington lasting nearly three decades. His compositions include "Take the 'A' Train," "Chelsea Bridge," and "Lush Life."

hbg, I love that one by Billy, and here are the lyrics

You must take the "A" train
To go to Sugar Hill, way up in Harlem
If you miss the "A" train
You'll find you missed the quickest way to Harlem

Hurry, get on, now it's coming
Listen to those rails a-thrumming all aboard
Get on the "A" train
Soon you will be on Sugar Hill in Harlem

You must take the "A" train
To go to Sugar Hill, way up in Harlem

You must take the "A" train
To go to Sugar Hill, way up in Harlem
If you miss the "A" train
You'll miss the quickest way to Harlem

Hurry, get on board, it's comin'
Listen to those rails a-thrumming all aboard
Get on the "A" train
Soon you will be on Sugar Hill in Harlem

Lawrence Welk referred to it a "take a train".

Mctag, Welcome back to you as well. I have searched for Peggy Lee's Songs Were made to sing while we're young where she changes key at the end. No luck.

Funny parody song by Perry.

Anyone remember St. Elsewhere?

Today is Howie Mandel's birthday, and he was part of the cast.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Thanks for the info concerning Hoyt. Didn't know that, Texas.

I love that one by Harry, and I recall Sidney Poitier won an academy award for that song in Lilies of the Field.

Here's another surprise, y'all. Maria does Donkey Serenade.
