Vonny very good stuff. Yes, letty, Jesse was real and I love that song about him. The Kingston Trio is a group that I have almost every single song they recorded, using the original and reformulated original artists. I believe there is a phony group singing their songs these days.

Wonderful mix of music on WA2K. Wish I could comment on each one, but to suffice it to say they were all great.

It's a Jungle out there was one I know and Mr. Monk is still doing his thing on TV.

I know Gene best for The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence.

Debacle, I can See Clearly Now is one of my favorites.

edgar, thanks again for explaination about Jessee and To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn is great.

hbg, we all love what you play here and Newfoundland is perfect for Canada day.

Hope I didn't miss anyone.

Going to say goodnight with two songs.

First, old blue eyes.

Now, Ella and Sachmo.

@vonny,

THanks Vonny, I played that clip this morning. Lovely.
I play double bass.

The concert went really well last night, about as well as could possibly be hoped. The audience were so enthusiastic, and so many offered kind comments at the end.
Our cello soloist was American, too...a very graceful and talented lady from Cleveland.

good morning and happy birthday to : Lena Horne

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIHPHMUZoq0

Quote:
Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917 – May 9, 2010) was an African American singer, actress, civil rights activist and dancer.

Horne joined the chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of sixteen and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood, where she had small parts in numerous movies, and more substantial parts in the films Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather. Due to the Red Scare and her left-leaning political views, Horne found herself blacklisted and unable to get work in Hollywood.[1]

Returning to her roots as a nightclub performer, Horne took part in the March on Washington in August 1963, and continued to work as a performer, both in nightclubs and on television, while releasing well-received record albums. She announced her retirement in March 1980, but the next year starred in a one-woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, which ran for more than three hundred performances on Broadway and earned her numerous awards and accolades. She continued recording and performing sporadically into the 1990s, disappearing from the public eye in 2000.

hbg, I love Lena Horne. Thanks for the memory.

edgar, thanks for your comment, and Paul Robeson singing Were You There When They Crucified My Lord reminded me of my oldest sister singing. Must Jesus bear the cross alone and all the world go free; no there's a cross for everyone and there's a cross for me.

McTag, welcome back to you as well; love those two clips of your performance. As you know, my husband played the contra bass and it's now my screen saver.

vonny, you are indeed a soul mate, gal.

Thinking of our body bones, and here are two versions

@McTag,

It must be great to be so talented. I love music - everything from heavy metal to classical - but, despite years of piano lessons, never managed more than the most basic melodies.

I have a special fondness for string quartets - Bartok's String Quartets have always been a big favourite.

Ah, y'all missed my bones. Razz

Love all the songs played on WA2K radio. Too many to acknowledge, however.

edgar, Lizzie Bordon was funny and Shake, Rattle, and Roll gave me a memory of my Dave when he was in the hospital.

Another memory.

Incidentally, Debacle. Love Cat Stevens and Kris.
