I guess there are many, many times when someone will write and produce a decent song, only to have someone better known get hold of it and make it a hit. Such was the case with Steve Young and Seven Bridges Road. He recorded it originally in his album Rock Salt and Nails in 1969 ( wonder if he went to Woodstock?) and then made a new recording of it on another album in 1972. That second recording has a better sound quality, both vocally and instrumentally. For one thing, they switched the background from violin to cello, making for a richer tone.

If you care to, you can search "Steve Young Seven Bridges Road" on youtube and find both recordings. And if you want to hear it by the Eagles who changed the style and tempo, but made it a hit, well you've got no end of youtube uploads available.

Now, I don't know who this guy is that I'm linking below; probably just some neighborhood troubador. But he's got himself a pretty decent recording setup in his garage. Personally, I think he falls somewhere between Young and the Eagles; not as enjoyable as the first, but somewhat better than the latter. But then, que sais-je? You be the judge.

Hello, everybody! A Word In Spanish is a lesser-known Elton John song, but one of my personal favorites.

Hello, everyone!

For some of the new performers out there, like The Ting Tings, beat and rhythm are more important than melody and lyrics.
