" The Gentle Giant of Country Music " has his birthday today .

Quote:
Don Williams (born May 27, 1939, Floydada, Texas, United States), is an American country singer, songwriter and a 2010 inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He grew up in Portland, Texas, and graduated in 1958 from Gregory-Portland High School. After seven years with the folk-pop group Pozo-Seco Singers, he began his solo career in 1971, singing popular ballads and amassing 17 No. 1 Country & Western hits.

His straightforward yet smooth bass-baritone voice, soft tones, and imposing build earned him the nickname: "Gentle Giant" of country music

Hi Letty,

Nearly bedtime here in the boonies and I'm in the mood for an oldie that's quietlike.

The one I've selected is an oldie by almost any standard. It's an ancient child's ballad (or an ancient ballad for a child, whatever) that originated on a speck of land (40 acres in extent) considered as part of the Orkney Islands, a goodly way off the Scottish mainland.

Here it is performed by a young Joan Baez.

Good morning, everyone.

Loved Mood Indigo by The Duke, edgar, and what a surprise to see and hear "the crooner" do Blue Hawaii.

hbg, Don Williams' Broken Heart and Tulsa by Freddy were great ones. Thanks Vonny for the good wishes and The Sound of Silence.

Debacle, welcome back to WA2K radio. Joan Baez always does great music.

yitwail, Glad you enjoyed Blue Hawaii by the king. Welcome back to you as well, aloha guy.

Hope I didn't miss any contributions as I am getting it all together for today's appointment.

Here's a birthday gal, y'all.
