saying good night and wishing a happy birthday to Carl Perkins ( blue suede shoes )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAa8BW_sR_c

Quote:
Carl Lee Perkins (April 9, 1932 – January 19, 1998)[1] was an American rockabilly musician who recorded most notably at Sun Records Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, beginning during 1954. His best known song is "Blue Suede Shoes".

According to Charlie Daniels, "Carl Perkins' songs personified the rockabilly era, and Carl Perkins' sound personifies the rockabilly sound more so than anybody involved in it, because he never changed."[2] Perkins' songs were recorded by artists (and friends) as influential as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Johnny Cash, which further cemented his place in the history of popular music. Paul McCartney even claimed that

“If there were no Carl Perkins, there would be no Beatles”.[3]

Called "the King of Rockabilly", he was inducted into the Rock and Roll, the Rockabilly, and the Nashville Songwriters Halls of Fame; and was a Grammy Hall of Fame Award recipient.

Today is Jamie Chung's birthday and she was popular in The Hangover and Once Upon a Time. In vino veritas, Jamie?

I decided to play Perry's Once Upon a Time.

Bobby Darin also did that one.

Yes, he did, edgar. Funny one by Lonzo and Oscar. I know I'm My Own Grandpa.

Another Time song by Perry.

Now some info on Brian.

Gale Sayers joins the Chicago Bears and is befriended by Brian Piccolo, an over-achieving running back. Although they compete for the same spot on the team, and despite the fact that Sayers is black and Piccolo white, they become roommates on the road and very close friends, especially when Sayers is injured and Piccolo helps his recovery. Later, they and their wives must both deal with the harsh reality of Piccolo's cancer.

@George,
Welcome back, Latin George. I think I learned about Perry via my older sister. If I could compare a poet and a vocalist, it would be Robert Browning and Perry.

Here's our poetry reading for today on WA2K.

@George,
What do you need to get over, Latin George? Love that one by Eric Clapton. Here's a helpless song by Neil and Willie.

edgar, Really enjoyed Bread and Roses by Mimi as well as Legend of a Girl Child by Joan, Mimi, and Judy.

Going to say goodnight with two songs. As edgar knows I like The Original Moulin Rouge. First, Toulouse La Trec.

@McTag,

The Swingle Singers were not the first ones to swing Bach. Here's a nice pastiche by Alex Templeton, played on the harpsichord by George Malcolm, entitled Bach Goes to Town.

Welcome back McTag. Loved your Ballad of Bethnal, and both Bach songs.

edgar, your goodnight song by Connie brought back some memories. Together was a goodie as was your morning song by by Biff's Gentle People.

A couple of songs for the morning here. First, a birthday guy and here is some info.

FRANK MANTOOTH (1947-2004)

Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and educator was one of the foremost big-bang musicians of his era.

Now, his song.

That one is for me, since I'm not to well today.

Incidentally, that should have been Miz Izzie
