Welcome back, jw. I really enjoyed that combination of Bobby and Linda. Long, Long time was great.

Here's one that I recall by her. Goethe.

good afternoon msletty , ed and all other listeners to WA2K !

today is the birthday of - one of the three Strauss brothers .

Quote:
Eduard Strauss (15 March 1835 – 28 December 1916) was an Austrian composer who, together with brothers Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss made up the Strauss musical dynasty. He was the son of Johann Strauss I and Maria Anna Streim. The family dominated the Viennese light music world for decades, creating many waltzes and polkas for many Austrian nobility as well as dance-music enthusiasts around Europe. He was affectionately known in his family as 'Edi'.

( i find it quite interesting that some of his polkas deal with subjects of the industrial revolution : the railway , the telephone , the newspapers and other items .

The works of Eduard Strauss include:

Bahn Frei! ('Clear the Track!') Polka-schnell op.45

Mit Dampf! ('Steam Up!') Polka-schnell op.70
Auf und Davon! ('Up and Away!') Polka-schnell op.73

Ohne Aufenthalt ('Without Stopping!') Polka-schnell op.112

Ausser Rand und Band ('Out of Control') Polka-Schnell op.168

Ohne Bremse ('Without Brakes') Polka-schnell op.238
Mit Extrapost ('Posthaste') Polka-schnell op.259 )

" clear the tracks ! "

" telephone polka "

and finally : " the morning newspaper "

@hamburgboy,
Ah, Andre Rieu does the Strauss clan. Love all three of those beauties. Polka Train; Telephone Polka and Morgan blatter.

Love this one by Andre, hbg.

More synchronicity. Just saw that he played Nearer My God to Thee and the violin that played that one was found recently. It concerned the sinking of the Titanic.

I don't consider Moon's record funny. It's good old fashioned country music. Razz
I like the Celtic music.
I am going to play Jack Greene, because today he died.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the comment and observation, edgar. You sent me searching again.Jack Greene (January 7, 1930 - March 14, 2013) was an American country musician nicknamed the "Jolly Green Giant" and well known for his 1966 hit "There Goes My Everything."

Statue of a Fool was good. How about another Wanderer.

This must be the original as I have heard it by different people.

travelling down memory lane with Anton Karas and the " Harry Lime " theme from " The Third Man " .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8jN1treRKQ

Quote:
In 1948, director Carol Reed was preparing to shoot The Third Man in Vienna and decided to have Karas playing the zither for the soundtrack.[2] Reluctant Karas was invited to London and lived with Reed while composing the score, and at that time was drawing a considerable salary of 30 GBP a week, plus 20 in pocket money, with expenses. The soundtrack was created in Korda's London Films studios, and Karas, who was homesick most of the time, worked up to 14 hours a day for twelve weeks: He had not been a composer before, but a great performer, and added improvisations to his repertoire. Later, Karas would mention that Reed almost "kept him like a slave"[citation needed] when he wanted to go back to Vienna more than once.

The film, not least due to its music, turned into a gigantic success which changed Karas' life.[3] As a result, he toured all over the world and performed for many celebrities, among them members of the British Royal family (Princess Margaret had invited him to London's fashionable Empress Club, where he played twice a week during his stay at London), Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, members of the Swedish royal family, and Pope Pius XII).[4]

By the end of 1949, a half million copies of "The Harry Lime Theme" had been sold, an unprecedented amount for the time.

The success of the score also caused a surge in zither sales.

... Cool man , Cool ...

hbg, loved all of songs, and as you know, I played The Third Man Theme. Wish I could comment on all of the Friday songs, but as you know, there are too many to acknowledge, so I thank each one by thumbing them up.

Welcome back to our Dixie Queen and her recognition of the zither. Hurry back, edgar. Thank You for Being a Friend. Razz

Two songs for Saturday here in Florida.

First, Grenada.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2HVAL1MRJE

and, the lyrics in English.

Granada, I'm falling under your spell,
And if you could speak, what a fascinating tale you would tell.
Of an age the world has long forgotten,
Of an age that weaves a silent magic in Granada today.

The dawn in the sky greets the day with a sigh for Granada.
For she can remember the splendor that once was Granada.
It still can be found in the hills all around as I wander along,
Entranced by the beauty before me,
Entranced by a land full of flowers and song.
When day is done and the sun touch the sea in Granada,
I envy the blush of the snow-clad Tierra Novada,
Soon it will welcome the stars
While a thousand guitars play a soft Carbinera.
Then moonlit Granada will live again,
The glory of yesterday, romantic and gay.
(musical interlude)
And soon it will welcome the stars
While a thousand guitars play a soft Carbinera.
Then moonlit Granada will live again,
The glory of yesterday, romantic, gay Granada.

and dear Diana Ross. Knew her best for the portrayal of Billie Holiday.

That particular song was inspired by Joe of all nations.
