STOMPIN' TOM R.I.P.

For hockey fans, it is an anthem. Not the anthems people quietly stand for, waiting for the game to begin, but the anthem that gets everyone going – hands clapping, feet, of course, stompin.’ The Hockey Song, Stompin’ Tom Connors’s gift to Canada’s national sport, was a sure-fire way to fire up a crowd, even when the home team was behind, and the fans were getting anxious.

edgar, I missed your Alvin Lee song. It was great.

Chuck Berry You Never Can Tell was great as well. As you know, I love The Ballad of the Alamo by Marty.

hbg, Ravel's Bolero was great as was Bo Derek. We joked about that sometime back and called it Ravel's sleeve of care. Razz

Also enjoyed Stompin' Tom's The Hockey Song. BoGoWo once referred to it as a ballet on ice.

Today is the birthday of a member of this group. His name is Ernie Isley.

I remember the Isley Brothers from the 60s. They did Twist and Shout before the Beatles had it.

@edgarblythe,
I just remember their music, edgar. Thanks again for your comments and the information.

I also Remember Bonanza and the Cartwrights. Pernell Roberts had a great voice. Didn't know he sang either. Thanks for the memory jog.

Another Mary Ann plus a memory song for Cyracuz.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for your comments, edgar. Didn't know that one by Ray. He's always good, however.

Here's another Ray doing a cover of Kris' song.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't know that, edgar. Love to learn on our radio. Love Good Golly Miss Molly by Little Richard.

Here's a surprise, I was searching for another Molly in our studio, and found this. This guy is fantastic doing the version of Charlie Chaplin's Smile.

good evening msletty , ed and all listeners to WA2K Radio !

today is the birthday of good , ole' Henry Purcell :

The Fairy Queen - If love's a sweet passion ... Wink ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-WyxbwU82A

Henry Purcell (pron.: /ˈpɜrsəl/;[1] 10 September 1659 (?)[2]– 21 November 1695), was an English composer. Although incorporating Italian and French stylistic elements into his compositions, Purcell's legacy was a uniquely English form of Baroque music. He is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers; no other native-born English composer approached his fame until Edward Elgar.

edgar, Thanks again for your comment. Billy Williams doing I'll Get By was great as well as Bob Wills doing Faded Love.

hbg, What a fabulous composer is Henry Purcell and thanks again for your info. Love's Sweet Passion as sung by that great female vocalist was delightful. Wish I had hair like Henry, too. Razz

What a wonderful evening I had. Sat up on a beautiful high rise restaurant looking at the ocean which for the first time in months was blue with a fringe of white surf.

Going to say goodnight with three songs.

First, A Magic Carpet Ride.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtkP5gTX6Hc

Now, an unusual group so here's some info on them.

In My Rosary was a German darkwave/neofolk music project with two members, Ralf Jesek and Dirk Lakomy. Though apparently a temporary project, the band has released over a dozen albums since its formation in 1993. Their sound is reminiscent of both acoustic folk music and early gothic rock/new wave, and incorporates electronic elements in varying degrees.

Their song.

Now, for all you Roman Catholics:

Mario.

"....and I say to myself, what a wonderful world..."

As our Izzie would say: To those near and far..."

From Letty with love

good morning to all and happy birthday to Syd Charisse .

Quote:
Cyd Charisse (March 8, 1922 – June 17, 2008)[1] was an American actress and dancer.

After recovering from polio as a child, and studying ballet, Charisse entered films in the 1940s. Her roles usually focused on her abilities as a dancer, and she was paired with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly; her films include Singin' in the Rain (1952), The Band Wagon (1953) and Silk Stockings (1957). She stopped dancing in films in the late 1950s, but continued acting in film and television, and in 1992 made her Broadway debut.

In her later years, she discussed the history of the Hollywood musical in documentaries, and participated in That's Entertainment! III in 1994. She was awarded the National Medal of the Arts and Humanities in 2006.
