Buffy's song, God is Alive, was taken from a novel written by Leonard Cohen: Beautiful Losers. Buffy is the only person I have heard perform this one.

Sidney is a fine actor. I guess he's retired now.
Not familiar with Ivan's song, but it's a good one.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the info and the comment, edgar. I did not know Ivan, but he looked Russian so I decided to play that in response to hbg's contribution.

Had no idea that that Billy and Jackie along with his Dominoes did Rags to Riches. Great version.

Today is this guy's birthday (he used to be with The Backstreet Boys)

Let's listen to him sing. He has a great voice.

@edgarblythe,
I have only heard of The Backstreet Boys, edgar. Don't think that I ever listened to them. Just played that song because it was his birthday.

Well, I most certainly know the song The More I See You, but not Chris Montez. Wonder if he is any kin to Maria? Razz He has a rather feminine voice.

Been searching for another Brazil song for a bit, and found this one by Cugat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldMuNoIvWkI

Now, the lyrics

Brazil, when stars were entertaining June,
We stood beneath an amber moon
And softly murmured someday soon
We kissed and clung together

Then - tomorrow was another day
The morning found us miles away
With still a million things to say.
And now, when twilight dims the skies above
Recalling thrills of our love
There's one thing I'm certain of
Return, I will, to old Brazil.

Brazil, when stars were entertaining June,
We stood beneath an amber moon
And softly murmured someday soon...
We kissed and clung together

Then - tomorrow was another day
The morning found us miles away
With still a million things to say.
And now when twilight dims the skies above
Recalling thrills of our love there's one thing
I'm certain of... Return, I will, to old Brazil.

Uh-Oh, methinks edgar may have been spurred by a rooster.

Going to say goodnight with two songs. First, inspired by hbg, this fabulous performer.

Fond memories of doing the hora.

Now, since it's Nancy Wilson's birthday, a tribute to her and George Shearing.

I remember her best for Guess Who I Saw Today My Dear.

I was introduced to Hava Nageela by a Harry Belafonte record, in 1958. That version is good too.

edgar, thanks again for your comments. Love that one by Harry.

translation.

Thank you, God,
Look at all that nature has brought us.
Thank you, God,
Look how misery has ended for us.
The rain has fallen,
The corn has grown,
All the children that were hungry are going to eat.
Let's dance the Congo,
Let's dance the Petro,
God said in Heaven
That misery has ended for us.

Can't believe The Fab four and the man who died did that one by Ray Charles.

hbg, I knew almost every one of those songs done by John Bowles.

Drifting Along With the Breeze
Can't Help Lovin' that Man of Mine
Blue Spanish Eyes; teardrops are falling from those Spanish Eyes.
Crazy for feeling so lonely
My Wonderful One, etc.

Hurry back, Texas; You, too, hbg.

Today is this lady's birthday. Don't know her, but love the way she performs.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for restoring our signal, edgar. Know Merle, but not Too Much Sugar for a Dime. Good one.

Today is this lady's birthday, but first a bit of info.

Nina Simone
Eunice Kathleen Waymon, better known by her stage name Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist widely associated with jazz music.

@hamburgboy,
welcome back, hbg. Ah, you missed the song that was inspired by you. Check it out.

Loved all those songs that you played.

How about some Mississippi and Tennessee songs.

First, Rocky Top. Maybe this will get our Rockhead back in here.

Now, Mississippi Mud. What a surprise to find that Deano did it.
