@edgarblythe,
Hurry back, Texas. Thanks for your comments on what we play here.

Dark Eyes by Judy was fantastic. Wonder what she meant by those lyrics? Well, perhaps "the jester" could tell us.

Thinking of the sea today, and Bobby based his version on Charles Trenet's original.

First, the original.

Not the Volga song, no.

Or you could do it this way: Glenn Miller did.

la mer and beyond the sea - each a masterpiece in its own right.
Glenn Miller is my favorite of the old bands.
Another favorite is Tommy Dorsey

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for your comments and recognition, edgar. We'll never know what happened to Glenn Miller, I'm afraid.

Great Boogie Woogie song by Tommy. Visuals were quite graphic, Texas.

More Russian music.

Partial lyrics, y'all.

The sons of the Prophet are valiant and bold
and wholly impervious to fear,
But the bravest of all was a man by the name,
Of Abdulah Boul Boul Ameer.

If you wanted a man to encourage the van,
Or harass the foe from the rear,
Or to storm a redoubt, you had only to shout
for Abdulah Boul Boul Ameer.

This son of the desert in batle aroused
Could spit twenty men on his spear,
A terrible creature, sober or soused,
Was Abdulah Boul Boul Ameer

There are brave men in plenty, and well known to fame,
in the army that's run by the Czar,
But the bravest of all was a man by the name
of Ivan Petrofsky Skevar.

Thanks again for your comments, edgar. Alison Krauss' I Believe in You was lovely.

Guess you don't like Boy George. Razz

Here's a birthday guy, but first some info.

Nickolas Gene "Nick" Carter is an American singer-songwriter, dancer, musician, entertainer and actor. He is best known as a member of the pop group Backstreet Boys.

Now a tribute to him.

as luck would have it , the B.S. Orchestra annd Choir were performing a

Benefit Concert for the re-building fund of one of the Viennese churches ;

included was a performance of Verdi's " Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves "

( one of mrs. H's best loved pieces of music )

from his opera Nabucco - it was " spinetingling " , indeed !

edgar, Thanks again for your comments, and Billy Lee Riley doing My Gal is Red Hot was great.

hbg, I love the information that you submit to our listeners and to me. Ah, Mrs. H had good taste.

That Verdi Opera Chorus of The Hebrew Slaves was fantastic. I especially loved the visuals.

Going to say goodnight a bit early as I am a wee bit tired.

Since I just saw that the new movie Hansel and Gretel did a smash hit at the box office, I think I'll play their prayer song.

and, today is Alan Alda's birthday, so let's not forget his marvelous performance in Mash.

Always nice to have Latin George and Scotland with us.

M*A*S*H* is one of my favorite TV shows. I get a charge out of Hawkeye serving in a war that lasted what? three years, but he went from a dark haired young man to being gray and looking mature.

for anyone who likes some soft clarinet tunes ... there is probably no one better to listen to than Aker Bilk ( and it's his birthday today )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUXmj3Fl7x0

Quote:
Bernard Stanley "Acker" Bilk MBE (born 28 January 1929) is an English clarinettist. He is known for his trademark goatee, bowler hat, striped waistcoat and his breathy, vibrato-rich, lower-register clarinet style.
...................................................................
Bilk was not an international star until an experiment with a string ensemble and a composition of his own as its keynote piece made him one in 1962. Upon the birth of his daughter, he composed and dedicated a melody entitled "Jenny" (her name). He was approached by a British television series for permission to use that melody, but to change the title to "Stranger on the Shore". He went on to record it as the title track of a new album in which his signature deep, quivering clarinet was backed by the Leon Young String Chorale.

The single was not only a big hit in the United Kingdom, where it stayed on the charts for 55 weeks, gaining a second wind after Bilk was the subject of the TV show This Is Your Life, but also shot to the top of the American charts at a time when the American pop charts and radio playlists were open to just about anything in just about any style

in less than 30 minutes it will be the birthday of Leslie Bricusse

who composed one of the great songs for Sammy Davis jr. :

" What Kind Of Fool Am I " .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jg7wFHWXT4

Quote:
Leslie Bricusse (born 29 January 1931) is an English composer, lyricist, and playwright.

Although best known for his partnership with Anthony Newley, Bricusse has worked with many other composers. He was educated at University College School in London and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge University, he was Secretary of Footlights between 1952 and 1953 and Footlights President during the following year.[1] He currently lives in California in the United States, and he is married to the actress Yvonne Romain.[2]

Sammy Davis, Jr. had hits with two of Bricusse's songs, "What Kind of Fool Am I?" (from Stop the World - I Want to Get Off) and the #1 hit "The Candy Man" (from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory)

edgar, thanks again for your comments, and your goodnight song was great. I have always loved frogs so Frogman brought back some great memories.

Also loved your I'm a Fool to Care by Joe. Hurry back, Texas.

hbg, I knew every one of those great songs: Stranger on a Shore; Wonderland by Night, and especially What Kind of Fool Am I, as I sang that one sometime ago. I was on a stage and the audience clapped when I finished. I always appreciate your recognition and information, Ontario. Also loved your great opera song.

Today is Tom Selleck's birthday. One of the shows that I truly enjoyed.
