@edgarblythe,
You sent me searching again, edgar. I remember The Unsinkable Molly Brown, but best in the old Titanic movie. There really was a Molly Brown, but she was a first class passenger.

Harve Presnell (September 14, 1933 – June 30, 2009) was an American actor and singer. He began his career in the mid 1950s as a classical baritone, singing with orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States. His career reoriented away from classical music to musical theatre in 1960 after Meredith Willson cast him in the lead role of his new Broadway musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown. His portrayal of "Leadville Johnny" was a resounding success and he reprised the role in the 1964 film version of the musical, winning a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal.

That was a great song by Debbie and the man.

Remember Tales from the South Pacific?

Love this lady singing a popular song from the movie.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for your comment, edgar. Love Tom Jones doing that theme from Thunderball. Not certain that I saw that movie.

Here's "the boss" doing more thunder.

edgar, Really enjoyed LoBo doing I'd Want You to Want Me.

I was wondering if you had missed "the king's" birthday. Blue Moon is great by him.

George, Thanks for the comments and Jim's French song I didn't know but it was great. Also enjoyed The Band's Life is a Carnival.

Another one by Elvis, y'all.

When I first heard him, I didn't like him, but I have definitely changed my mind.

neko, thank you so much for that translation. The story of Kyu is sad just as the lyrics to that song denote.

I just found that George's Jim is French Canadian.

Ah, edgar, I love the king's Memories. Remember it by the Lettermen as well.

Great to have Ontario with us yesterday and McTag today. Hey, I like our American contributions as well.

Going to say goodnight a bit early as your PD needs to do some stuff before bedtime.

I think we missed David Bowie, so I'm doing Starman by him, and ONE more Elvis.

Now Hawaii again. We'll send this to Merry Andrew and Sglass and the yitwails.

one more time " Dame SHIRLEY " :

Quote:
A PART OF THE LYRICS:

Funny how a lonely day, can make a person say:
What good is my life
Funny how a breaking heart, can make me start to say:
What good is my life
Funny how I often seem,
to think I'll find never another dream In my life
Till I look around and see,
this great big world is part of me
And my life
This is my life
Today, tomorrow, love will come and find me
But that's the way that I was born to be
This is me
This is me

This is my life
And I don't give a damn for lost emotions
I've such a lot of love I've got to give
Let me live
Let me live

since we are already in Berlin , let's breathe some of that intoxicating

" BERLIN AIR = berliner luft " .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxCEqqrZnk0

from the outdoor stage at the Forest Theatre - the crowd is staying despite pouring rain - looks like everyone is having a good time ( must be the air of berlin )

Quote:
Carl Emil Paul Lincke (7 November 1866 – 3 September 1946) was a German composer and theater conductor. He is considered the "father" of the Berlin operetta and holds the same significance for Berlin as does Johann Strauss for Vienna and Jacques Offenbach for Paris. His well-known compositions include "Berliner Luft" ("Berlin Air"), the unofficial anthem of Berlin, from his operetta Frau Luna; and "The Glow-Worm", from his operetta Lysistrata.

and now ... ... ... GLOW WORM !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1WeZQblN0o

Quote:
This performance of Glow-Worm, performed by Johnny and Melissa Manchester in 1997, special on songs of Johnny Mercer. Such an upbeat, fun, infectious performance - just one more example of Johnny's great range of diversity. Is there any genre he can not sing? I doubt it. Great orchestration as well- catch those horns! The song, a signature hit for the Mills Brothers in the 50's, was written by German operetta composer Carl Emil Paul Lincke

down memory lane we walk ... to celebrate the birthday of Little Anthony :

Quote:
Little Anthony and the Imperials is a rhythm and blues/soul/doo-wop vocal group from New York, first active in the 1950s. Lead singer Jerome Anthony "Little Anthony" Gourdine was noted for his high-pitched falsetto voice, influenced by Jimmy Scott. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 4, 2009,[1] 23 years after the group's first year of eligibility for induction.

goodnight to hbg and good morning to edgar.

I had no idea that "the crooner" did Blue Hawaii. Good Morning by the fab four was a goodie. Hurry back, Texas.

hbg, I really enjoyed all of your songs:

This is My Life by Dame Shirley reminded me of Billy Joel

Really, really liked Berliner Luft.

Glow worm, of course, I know best by The Mills Brother. That one by Johnny and Melissa was a good version, however.

Little Anthony's Shimmy Shimmy was priceless and reminded me of I Wish I Could Shimmy like my Sister Kate.

Holding positive thoughts for our "cosmic eagle" (Dutchy). Heart surgery tomorrow, I think.

Today is Joan Baez's birthday, so here are two songs by that talented lady.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QCmy2FzWAU

and, this one I love.
