Welcome back, my cockney friend. That one by Dawes says a lot. Love the lyrics.

edgar, Thanks for your comment once again. Wow! Stardust by "old blue eyes" was great. Did Hoagy Carmichael do that one as well?

Going to say goodnight with two songs.

First Marty Robbins. Here's a bit of info on that song.

Marty icluded this song in his 'Song Of The Islands' album which featured a collection of Hawaiian songs. 'Now Is The Hour' however, derives from New Zealand Maori origins and was popularized just after the war by Gracie Fields and Bing Crosby.

Now the song.

Now, Lady Day.

Great to have London and Scotland with us today.

saying Good Night with Tito Schipa

singing " The Pleasures of Love " .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaSb_pPuh2c

Quote:
The song, composed in 1784, took its text from a poem by Jean de Florian (1755–1794), which appears in his romance Célestine. The Romantic French composer Hector Berlioz (1803–1869) arranged the piece for orchestra (H134) in 1859.

Notable interpretations of the song include those of Joan Baez, The Seekers, Vicki Brown, Marianne Faithfull, Brigitte Bardot, Karrin Allyson, Nana Mouskouri and Charlotte Church; also those of classical singers such as Victoria de los Angeles, Tito Schipa, Fritz Wunderlich and many others. One of the more unusual recordings is by Paul Robeson. It was performed by Irene Dunne in Love Affair; Maria Ouspenskaya accompanies on the piano. Montgomery Clift played the music on the piano and sang the song as well in The Heiress. Joelly Richardson, as Marie-Antoinette, sings it in the 2001 film "The Affair of The Necklace." "Plaisir d'amour" is also sung by a children's choir in "The Breaking Point", an episode of HBO's 2001 World War II television miniseries Band of Brothers; the 1987 movie La Famiglia by Ettore Scola; and the 1966 Batman movie.

The melody was used for the song "My Love Loves Me", performed by Anita Carter; "Lonely Girl", performed by Jerry Minton; "I want to live" performed by Aphrodite's Child and sung by Demis Roussos; and "Can't Help Falling in Love", an Elvis Presley hit.

Good morning from here in Florida.

edgar, Loved that Yusef/Cat song. Great photo of Elvis and we expect to hear more from you. Don't Leave Me Now I didn't know. You hurry back.

hbg, Thanks so much for addressing my name, and I loved all your songs especially The Frog Legs Rag. Funny.

Sally Rand and her ostrich feathers I remember, too.

Especially enjoyed Martini's Plaisir D'Amour. Wonder if get he gave that name to the "...stirred not shaken..." man. Razz

McTag, no problem with playing Christmas music. We never get tired of it.

Carol of the Bells; jigs and reels and Julie playing that Irish whistle were great.

The Hebrides is a place that I would love to go.

A couple of songs for the late morning here.

First, a birthday man being serious for a change.

Victor Borge.

good day msletty, ed and all other listeners to WA2K !

let's not forget today is the birthday of one of the Andrews Sisters > Maxene :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHpgIJa2yWU

Quote:
Ms. Maxene Andrews and her sisters, Patty and Laverne, were one of the most successful women's singing groups, with 19 gold records and sales of nearly 100 million copies. The sisters began performing in the early 1930's when the Depression wiped out their father's business. In 1937, the trio of sisters scored their first big hit with 'Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen'. In addition to 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, ' their best-known songs included 'Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree' and 'Rum and Coca Cola'. The trio officially broke up after the death of Laverne in 1967. Ms. Andrews began a solo career in 1979. Her album and its title, were released in 1990, 'Maxene: An Andrews Sister'.

Her last performance was on Sunday, October 8th, 1995, in the show 'Swing Time Canteen', at New York City's Blue Angel Theater.

@edgarblythe,
Sorry that you are so tired, edgar. Me too as I spent most of the night worrying about the kid from Orlando.

Ah, "the pearl of great price". Great one by her and she was born in Virginia.

Here's a birthday guy that you probably know, 'cause he is from Texas.

No, not speedy, but Nicolas. First some info.

Gonzalez was born in San Antonio, Texas, where he was a student at Central Catholic High School. He became an accomplished cross-country and track runner, winning the Texas State Championship in the mile and two mile. After graduating in 1994 and turning down a presidential appointment to West Point, Nicholas pursued an English degree at Stanford University in California.

His interest and love of literature, history, and poetry led him to two terms at Oxford University in England. The following summer, he returned to Europe on a research grant where he studied with scholars at Oxford and Trinity College, Dublin to complete his thesis on James Joyce’s Ulysses.

While finishing his Bachelor of Arts in English in 1998, Nicholas was approached to do a one-man theatre piece called Gas by Marie Irene Fornes.

@hamburgboy,
hbg, I remember Van Dyke Parks, especially the part about Dennis Wilson. For the longest time, I thought that he had been a part of Charles Manson's group and consequently was involved in the man's life. Not true, however, but I was surprised to find that he died by drowning.

a tribute to Dennis.
