@Letty,
good morning all !

" jivin' and ridin' " with Earl " FATHA " Hines - it's his birthday today !

Quote:
Earl Kenneth Hines, universally known as Earl "Fatha"[1] Hines (December 28, 1903[2] – April 22, 1983), was an American jazz pianist. Hines was one of the most influential figures in the development of modern jazz piano and, according to one major source, is "one of a small number of pianists whose playing shaped the history of jazz".[

@edgarblythe,
Things are tough all over, edgar. That one by Gary U.S. Bonds says it best. Sorry about your friend, but thankful you restored our signal.

You sent me searching again.

Gary U.S. Bonds is an American rhythm and blues and rock and roll singer. He is also a prolific songwriter

Bet you know Denzel, too.

Here's one by "sachmo" that says it for many of us.

good evening all !

a fine Canadian musician has his birthday today : Moe Koffman .

here he is with " Swinging Shepherd Blues " .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h-dwY1Y2dc

( smoooooth music to prepare us for the weekend )

Quote:
Morris "Moe" Koffman, OC (December 28, 1928 - March 28, 2001) was a Canadian jazz musician and composer. He played the flute, soprano, alto and tenor saxophone and clarinet. Although some jazz purists did not appreciate his sensitivity to popular tastes, his ability to adapt to changing styles reflected his technical skill as a musician and diverse musical interests.

Born in Toronto, Koffman began his musical studies in his native city with Gordon Delamont. He attended the Toronto Conservatory of Music, now the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, where he was a student of Samuel Dolin but later dropped out of school to perform in dance bands. In 1950, he moved to the United States, where he played with big bands including those of Sonny Dunham and Jimmy Dorsey. In 1955, he returned to Toronto where he formed a quartet and later a quintet. He recorded Swinging Shepherd Blues in 1958 which helped establish his reputation as a flautist and ranked him alongside Herbie Mann and Yusef Lateef and later Jeremy Steig as great influential jazz flute players. "Swinging Shepherd Blues" was a hit in the United States, reaching #23 on the Billboard pop chart.

Barry, Welcome back to you as well. Rita's It's a Working Man I Am tells a story. "It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mines."

hbg, Thanks for the info on Moe. I love The Swinging Shepherd's Blues, especially the flute.

Going to say goodnight a bit early as GJ, has hurt his back again, and I'll need to help him.

I have a complete CD set of the Kingston Trio. It takes a long time to listen to them all on my trips to work.

Great music played last evening.

edgar, Loved The Night Has a Thousand Eyes.

hbg, All of your music was great. Especially enjoyed Willie Panama doing Tell Me Your Dream. Wish I could acknowledge each one, but a little too fuzzy this Saturday. It rained and rained and rained last evening.

How about a birthday guy for begin this Saturday.

Here's a funny one for today. First Chet.

Now, Hugh does some of the lyrics. My older sister and I used to do this via double hands playing. Rather ragtime sounding.

Good morning. My connection is too slow to play the music just now. Plus I am about to leave for a while anyway. See you all later.

@ehBeth,
Welcome, Bethie. Yep, that's what your dad would say. Love Little Lie by Lindi. Didn't know her but thanks for the introduction and for restoring out signal.

I've searched everywhere for "...and Mimi.." by Al Jolson, but all that I could find was this clip.

http://wall3-6.tunegenie.com/music/al-jolson/oh-my-al/and-mimi/+lyrics/

The first part is On the Rue De La Paix there once once a cabaret and Mimi.

The ending lyrics."...and for me she's singing no more....now I'm sitting sad and dreamy just for Mimi and her song...."

Maybe someone here can help me out with it.

Now, a tribute to that great vocalist.

Welcome back to you as well, Barry. Love that cover of Ray Charles' I Got a Woman. Your Don't Mess Up a Good Thing by that group referred to as Eli, made me think of this one.
