Quote:
Marlene Dietrich (German pronunciation: [maɐˈleːnə ˈdiːtʁɪç]; 27 December 1901 – 6 May 1992)[2] was a German-American actress and singer.

Dietrich remained popular throughout her long career by continually re-inventing herself, professionally and characteristically. In the Berlin of the 1920s, she acted on the stage and in silent films. Her performance as "Lola-Lola" in The Blue Angel, directed by Josef von Sternberg, brought her international fame and provided her a contract with Paramount Pictures in the US. Hollywood films such as Shanghai Express and Desire capitalised on her glamour and exotic looks, cementing her stardom and making her one of the highest-paid actresses of the era. Dietrich became a U.S. citizen in 1939,[3] and throughout World War II she was a high-profile frontline entertainer. Although she still made occasional films in the post-war years, Dietrich spent most of the 1950s to the 1970s touring the world as a successful show performer.

In 1999, the American Film Institute named Dietrich the ninth-greatest female star of all time.

@hamburgboy,
In the late 1950's and early 1960's Marlene Dietrich was accompanied by the Burt Bacharach Orchestra, Burt Bacharah did the arrangements.

Thanks, edgar, for your goodnight song by Tony. Love The Shadow of Your Smile. Hurry back, Texas.

hbg, Thanks for the introduction to that lady, Una Mae Carlisle. It's hard to beat Fats Waller. My brother in law told me that he could play organ as well.

Marlene Dietrich is great on that oldie. I loved her in Witness for the Prosecution.

Welcome back, Barry. Glad all is well in London, and "old blue eyes" did a great job with "....traveling.."

Welcome back to you as well Wandel. Love that Baby song by Marlene as well.

It was so cold here this morning, that I awakened early and saw a huge full moon setting over the intra coastal waterway. It was beautiful, but chilly looking.

Here's one of my favorites by Marlene, followed by some jazz to warm us up.

@Barry The Mod,
Too bad about Fontella. Both Rescue Me and Don't Mess With a Good Thing with Bobby are good.

You reminded me of this great guy, Barry.

@edgarblythe,
Welcome back to you as well, Texas. As you know, I love Jimmie Rodgers. Make Me a Miracle was great. Thanks again for your comment.

I didn't realize what fantastic voices this trio had. Intonation perfect.

@edgarblythe,
I knew that I had played it before, edgar, but it was worth hearing twice.

Love Bo Diddley, I had forgotten about him. Thanks for the memory jog.

I am given to understand that Julio is going to perform with the president of Haiti. I love this one by him.

@Letty,
good evening letty !

i was sure you would remember Marlene .
here is an early appearance by her - probably the late 20's :
" ich bin die fesche lola = i am the feisty lola " ; she sure was feisty throughout her life - i have to admit that her voice sounds like " sandpaper " Wink .
i'm quite sure the recording was made in Berlin -
at that time known as the most sinfull city of europe !

edgar, I loved that one by "the jester". Don't know Never Say Goodbye, however. Thanks again for your comment.

hbg, That one by Marlene was truly unusual.

The tour around Berlin during the 1920's was amazing. Wish I had more time to read the article that you showed us. You are quite well informed, dear friend.

Going to say goodnight a bit early as I am rather tired.

First, inspired by Julio and the president of Haiti. One by Fred Astaire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9jGViDXadc

Now a beautiful one inspired by a classical pianist.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kciqR0HxNQ

and, the lyrics.

Full moon and empty arms
The moon is there for us to share, but where are you?
A night like this could weave a memory
And every kiss could start a dream for two

Full moon and empty arms
Tonight I'll use the magic moon to wish upon
And next full moon, if my one wish comes true
My empty arms will be filled with you

Hope our Rockhead is alright. Wonderful to have Ontario and London with us today. Perhaps McTag tomorrow.

From Letty with love to all of you, everywhere.

@Letty,
" I WANT TO BE BAD " ( no , not me ; it's just the title of a song
by Helen Kane recorded in 1929 ) :

BETTY BOOB ? Laughing

Quote:
Helen Kane (August 4, 1904,[1][2] – September 26, 1966) was an American popular singer; her signature song was "I Wanna Be Loved By You". Kane's voice and appearance were a likely source for Fleischer Studios animator Grim Natwick when creating Betty Boop, although It-girl Clara Bow is another possible influence
