dj, your grandpa album fit right in, once again.

Hey, folks, we are not only here to inform but amuse. (a muse)

I tried a different delivery format today, audience, because I wanted to make certain that everyone was recognized for their contributions.

Panama Red by New Riders of the Purple Sage
Panama Red, Panama Red,
He'll steal your woman then he'll rob your head.
Panama Red, Panama Red,
His white horse Mescalino, comes breezin' thru town.
Bet his woman's off in bed with ol' Panama Red.

You just don't know when Red's in town,
he keeps well hidden underground.
Everybody's gettin' crazy fallin' out 'n' hangin' round.
My woman said, "Hey Pedro, you're actin' crazy like a clown."
Nobody feels like workin' Panama Red is back in town.

Everybody's lookin' out for him cause they know Red satisfies.
Little girls love to listen to him sing & tell sweet lies.
But when things get confusin' honey, you're better off in bed.
Cause I'll be searchin' all the joints in town for Panama Red

Ah, Francis, Chet Atkins isn't quite my style, but his guitar was the perfect choice for poor people dancing. I am delighted that you liked it. Did you know that Walter is doing a tour of France?

Dys, great to see you back with an original of another type, and that would be the ragin' cajun. So, swaped your stetson for a panama, have 'ya. <smile>

Anyone here remember James Dickey?

Hail Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor.
Hail Macbeth, Thane of Glamis.
All hail Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter...

Is that the one?

McTag, that's part of it, but the weird sisters laid it on even thicker when they reassured MacBeth that he would survive.

Paraphrased:

MacBeth will not be defeated until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsiname
He will not be killed by any man of woman born.

At the end, of course, the English soldiers camouflaged as trees, do indeed bring the wood to Dunsiname, and MacDuff was a caesarian birth.

Mean old crones. <smile>

Hee! Hee! edgar. Terrible to have one's head on a pole.

Well, folks, in keeping with the Brits:

LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Tony Blair's eldest son Euan will work as an intern with Republican staff in the U.S. House of Representatives, the prime minister's office said on Sunday.

Euan, 21, will spend three months working with a committee which determines how U.S. legislation is considered in the lower chamber of Congress.

"Euan Blair has been given the opportunity to take up a short, unpaid internship with the Rules Committee of the House of Representatives," said a spokesman at the prime minister's Downing Street office.

Despite Blair's close relationship with President Bush, the news raised eyebrows among some Democrats who see Blair's Labour party as natural allies, reported the Sunday Telegraph newspaper.

"It is extremely surprising that the son of a Labour prime minister would intern with the Republican majority staff on the committee," the paper quoted Eric Burns, communications director for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, the committee's leading Democrat, as saying.

The newspaper said Euan would be mentored by David Dreier, a Californian representative to the Republican leadership in the House, during his internship.

The Downing Street spokesman said Euan was also hoping for an internship with the Democrats.

The news comes a few weeks after Blair's wife Cherie came under fire for giving a well-paid speech in Washington at the same time as the Prime Minister visited the White House.

Well, folks, if monica can do it, so can Euan

Weird coincidence here folks, because I was doing some gardening this afternoon and cutting back some shrubbery, and as I was carrying the twigs and branches across to the tip, I made a joke comment to my wife about Birnam Wood going to Dunsinane, the famous witches' prediction from the play Macbeth.

I turn on Radio A2K, and hear the radio quote the same line from the same play.

Spooky, or what? Shocked

Rita, welcome to WA2K. Great to have you in our studios. Yes, our Raggedy is a leader all right.

McTag, I swear, this happens to me all the time. That was, indeed, a coincidence or as I like to call it, synchronicity.

Well, folks, "by the twitching of my thumb; something wicked this way comes." and it sure ain't anybody here.

and while Europe sleeps,
Another spooky coincidence:

According to my sister, my very ignoble ancestor was the man who gave the cold command:

Battle of Balaclava, October 25, 1854
Written 1854

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!' he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd ?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Their's not to make reply,
Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turn'd in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel'd from the sabre-stroke
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder'd.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Tennyson

It's too hot to shiver, listeners!

"Notre Dame Victory March"

Rally sons of Notre Dame
Sing her glory and sound her fame
Raise her Gold and Blue
And cheer with voices true:
Rah, rah, for Notre Dame
We will fight in every game,
Strong of heart and true to her name
We will ne'er forget her
And will cheer her ever
Loyal to Notre Dame.

Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky!
What though the odds be great or small,
Old Notre Dame will win over all,
While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory!

edgar, dear. There are alternate lyrics to that Notre Dame song. Let me see if I can locate them.

Incidentally, Texas, what brought that song on?

Oh, I see. It was a request for an old grad. <smile>

Here tis:

2.1
Beers, beers for old Notre Dame
Bring on the cocktails, we want champagne
Send the freshmen out for gin,
Don't let a sober sophomore in.
We never stagger, we never fall,
We sober up on wood alcohol,
All the loyal faculty lie drunk on the bar room floor!

2.2
Beer, beer for old Notre Dame.
Bring on the whiskey, bring on the dames!
We drink wine or beer or gin
Don't let a sober person in!

We never stumble, we never fall.
We sober up on wood alcohol.
As our loyal sons go marching
Back to the bar for more!

Very Happy

Ah, edgar. Now I see. I'm certain our listeners got it before I did.

Let's see, folks, How can I redeem myself?

For you, edgar:

The Lyrics

There's a yellow rose in Texas, That I am going to see,
Nobody else could miss her, Not half as much as me.
She cried so when I left her It like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her, We nevermore will part.

She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, They sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, And sing of Rosalee,
But the YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS Is the only girl for me.

When the Rio Grande is flowing, The starry skies are bright,
She walks along the river In the quiet summer night:
I know that she remembers, When we parted long ago,
I promise to return again, And not to leave her so.

She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, They sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, And sing of Rosalee,
But the YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS Is the only girl for me.

Oh now I'm going to find her, For my heart is full of woe,
And we'll sing the songs together, That we sung so long ago
We'll play the bango gaily, And we'll sing the songs of yore,
And the Yellow Rose of Texas Shall be mine forevermore.

She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, They sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, And sing of Rosalee,
But the YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS Is the only girl for me.

Next, the background on this song.

And the rest of the stories, listeners:

The Story

Texas is steeped in history and legend.
Sometimes history becomes clouded with legend and folklore,
but that only enriches the experience.
This is no more evident than in the legend of "The Yellow Rose of Texas."

Emily Morgan was reported to have been a mulatto slave
belonging to a wealthy Texas land owner during the time of the Texas Revolution.
After Santa Anna and the Mexican army defeated the Texas army at the Alamo and at Goliad,
they pushed their way eastward intent on crushing the rebellious Texans.

They moved as far east as the swampy bogs around what is now
the San Jacinto River and the Houston Ship Channel.
Santa Anna had set up camp along the banks of the river.
The Texas army, under the leadership of General Sam Houston,
who the City of Houston is named after, attacked the Mexican army during siesta time.
With the river at their backs cutting off any hope of escape,
the Texas army defeated the Mexican army with little effort.
Santa Anna was reported to have been in his tent "enjoying" the company of Emily Morgan.

The resulting rout was a miracle by military standards as the Texas army was severely outnumbered.
Without the direction of the Santa Anna,
the Mexican army was defeated,
marking the end of Santa Anna's rule in Texas,
and effectively creating the Republic of Texas.

Since the day that Emily Morgan effectively distracted Santa Anna,
she has been immortalized in legend and song as
"The Yellow Rose of Texas......the sweetest little rosebud, that Texas ever knew".
