Hurry back, Barry. Some of your songs wouldn't play here. Loved Al Green's version of Hank doing I'm So Lonesome I could Cry. Reminded me of Johnny Cash's The Reverend Mr. Black.

Not certain what you meant by cross handed, but I know Victor Borge did on the piano.

Saying goodnight with Perry, Karen, and Richard.

Great having Australia, Ontario, and London with us.

@edgarblythe,
Well, edgar, Perry says it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and although it's cold here, Christmas is a month away, but business folks are already touting it and hoping folks will do their shopping early. Just found out that solstice is Latin for sun.

Two songs for the morning, first a birthday guy.

How long ago, our friend Phil (RIP) had an old press pass and Bud got to meet Dave Brubeck and have his photo taken with him and a handicapped guy. When Bud asked about Paul Desmond, Dave replied: We all miss Paul.

Now, another Rudyard Kipling story.

@edgarblythe,
Indeed, edgar. Keep Smiling at Trouble by Tony was great.

When we went to see Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, we sat there while the audience was leaving and Listened to K.D. Lang sing Skylark.

Another by Harlen Arlen with lyrics by Johnny Mercer.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for you comment, edgar. I, too, love Al and Way Down Yonder in New Orleans was great. Incidentally, I recognized Jean Harlow and Rudolph Valentino in your Ray Noble song.

Yep, Al broke all the rules, Texas.

Here's another.

I have Mimi on a CD collection, letty. Al Jolson is mostly admired by older folks, I guess. But, I think he will be remembered in the long run.

@edgarblythe,
Actually, edgar, I first heard about Al Jolson when my older sister took me to see Larry Parks' movie version of Al.

Never heard that song by Rickie, Texas. Here's the first one that I heard by him, and I was really caught up with his voice.

I like that Ricky Nelson song too.
I believe I first became acquainted with Al Joson's music about age ten, maybe nine. I recall In Your Easter Bonnet by him on the radio as well as California Here I Come and Mammy.
Here is a neat one by Charles Rich

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the comment on Ricky, edgar. Also appreciate your explanation of Al's first aquaintance

Ah, I love Charlie Rich, but don't know My Elusive Dream. Guess I remember him best for Behind Closed Doors.

Hmmm. Wonder where the rest of the world is?

Saying goodnight with two songs.

First, another Paul Desmond. Have no idea what a blue dove is, however.

and here a short bio of " FRANZ'L " :

Quote:
Franz Xaver Gruber (25 November 1787 – 7 June 1863), was an Austrian primary school teacher and church organist in the village of Arnsdorf. At the same time he was organist and choirmaster at St Nicholas Church in the neighboring village of Oberndorf bei Salzburg and then in later years moved on to Hallein, Salzburg.

Together with Joseph Mohr, a Catholic priest who wrote the original German lyrics, Gruber composed the music for the Christmas carol Silent Night. On Christmas Eve of 1818, Mohr, an assistant pastor at St Nicholas, showed Gruber a six-stanza poem he had written in 1816. He asked Gruber to set the poem to music. The church organ had broken down so Gruber produced a melody with guitar arrangement for the poem. The two men sang "Stille Nacht" for the first time at Christmas Mass in St Nicholas Church while Mohr played guitar and the choir repeated the last two lines of each verse.
