ALWAYS something new to learn !
i was looking for german dance-music of the 60's and 70's ( Travelling down memory lane ) and found out that HORST WENDE and ROBERTO DELGADO are the same person .

Quote:
Horst Wende (5 November 1919 — 23 January 1996) was a German bandleader, arranger and composer. He made easy-listening records under his own name as well as under the name Roberto Delgado. He was part of the wave of German-based easy listening artists who were popular in the 1960s and 1970s, along with Bert Kaempfert and James Last.

Born in Zeitz, Saxony, he showed musical proficiency at an early age. He played in his grandfather’s band in a restaurant when he was six, and by his teens he was accomplished at playing piano, accordion, xylophone and marimba. He studied music at the Leipzig Conservatory.

He served in the German army during World War II, but was captured by the British. During his captivity in a Danish POW camp, he met a guitarist named Ladi Geisler, with whom he soon formed a small combo. After the war, he led various combos (which usually included Geisler)in The Salambo Night Club from René Durand & The Tarantella Night Club near the famous Reeperbahn. Horst also played with British Service musicians and Big Bands like Edmundo Ros. Settling in Hamburg, he became part of the burgeoning music scene in the port city.
[ did he perhaps play in the RED LIGHT district in hamburg ? Shocked ]

hbg, Loved all your songs especially the replay of Vera Lynn's and The Mosquito. Also like Jealousy.

Missed our edgar's the Green Grass of Home by Harry.

For those folks you are naval vets.

Morgan, Welcome back to you as well. Edith Piaf (the little sparrow) was an amazing performer.

@Barry The Mod,

Oh boy did you see that programme about Roy Orbison tonight, brilliant. When I was s a lad I used to see Dean Ford and the Gaylords do a great version of Blue Bayou as part of their set at the local hop. Dean was a great singer although that wasn't his real name. Junior Campbell on guitar, genius. That band later became Marmalade.

edgar, Loved Johnny Horton's Sink the Bismark.

Well, Barry, Great one by Patricia Kaas, and here are the lyrics.

If the sun should tumble from the sky
If the sea should suddenly run dry
If you love me, really love me
Let it happen, I won’t care
If it seems that everything is lost
I should smile and never count the cost
If you love me, really love me
Let it happen, darling, I won’t care

Shall I catch a shooting star?
Shall I bring it where you are?
If you want me to, I will
You can set me any task
I’ll do anything you ask
If you’ll only love me still

When at last our life on earth is through
I shall share eternity with you
If you love me, really love me
Then whatever happens, I won’t care

Then whatever happens, I won’t care

Welcome back to you Mac. I certainly know Roy Orbison, buddy.

hbg, a great German naval march.

So long ago, I remember Olen. I exchanged messages with him because I wanted to know about my brother.

He was a pilot in WWII, and flew both the European and the Pacific theater.

We played He Wears a Pair of Silver Wings.

Well, well. It looks as though Miss/Ms Letty has been left out of the conversation here on our radio.

Sorry that I can't acknowledge each contribution, but as you know, my way of thanking each of you is to thumb up your response.

Hope we'll try and stick to the format from now on.

Saying goodnight with two songs. First, Roy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rTW2UzzLQ8&feature=related

Now, ending our Sunday with a lovely hymn.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw5TtwJFIKU&feature=related

Incidentally, Barry.

A dress worn by Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz has sold for $480,000 (£302,000) at auction in Beverly Hills.

Great to have Ontario, Dublin, London, and Scotland with us today.

From Letty with love to all of you, everywhere.
