@Letty,
Hi Miss Letty,
Mel Torme really has a velvet voice, I knew the name Mel Torme but wasn't sure why. Now I know, thank you for that.
A Happy Birthday to David, knew the song, not the man. Smile

another " velvet " voice : Dick Haymes ( it's his birthday )

and here is FREDDY with a wellknown german sailors' song :

( the guitar and the ocean )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdf8SZLHkiQ&feature=related

Quote:
Freddy Quinn (born Franz Eugen Helmut Manfred Nidl, 27 September 1931, Niederfladnitz, Austria) is an Austrian singer and actor whose popularity within the German-speaking world soared in the late 1950s and 1960s. Similar to Hans Albers two generations before him, Quinn adopted the persona of the rootless wanderer who goes to sea but longs for a home, family and friends.

interesting : even though born in austria - a land-locked country - most of his songs deal with sailors , their girlfriends and the ocean )

edgar, I once asked McTag why all bagpipes played Amazing Grace. Razz

euro, As I told miz izz, I once had a radio show called Accent, and that one by Johnny was its theme song. More synchronicity, because a black and white version of Les Miserables was on TCM the other night.

hbg, Your Bill Monroe Bluegrass music was excellent as was Dick Haymes Let the Rest of the World Go By. Great guitar and Ocean song, too.

One of my favorites by Johnny and Henry.

@hamburgboy,
Had no idea that Ray did that one from Oklahoma, nor that Etta did Stormy Weather.

Sounds as though your weather is like ours. One minute pouring rain; the next minute burning heat.

Here's a surprise to me, yawl. A baseball player who is a jazz musician.

Happy birthday Bernie Williams.

@eurocelticyankee,
Thanks for the comments, euro, and you sent me searching again.

Snow Patrol are a Northern Irish/Scottish alternative rock band formed at the University of Dundee in 1994. The group comprises Gary Lightbody (vocals, guitar), Jonny Quinn (drums), Nathan Connolly (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Wilson (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Tom Simpson (keyboards). Initially an indie rock band, their first three records, the EP Starfighter Pilot (1997), and the studio albums Songs for Polarbears (1998) and When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up (2001), were commercially unsuccessful and were released by the independent labels Electric Honey and Jeepster respectively. The band then signed on to the major record label Polydor Records in 2002.

Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars was so lovely that I listened twice.

Another lovely lady's birthday. So here is a tribute to her.

Speak of bagpipes playing Amazing Grace and ye shall be rewarded.

hbg, that Russian sailor dance was great. I miss dancing and music.

hey, edgar. Loved the Flower Garden by Phil Ochs, and the lost bagpipe player touched my heart. I have lost all sense of direction, but I'm not surprised that some men refuse to ask directions.

hbg, I also like German music. This one is switched on, so you'll be able to hear it.

Ah, just found out that today is Claire Schumann's birthday. Wish that I could find a proper tribute to the lady who made her husband's music live on after his death.
