@Barry The Mod,
Hurry back, Mod Man. Bob Newhart is one of my favorite comedians.

Another birthday gal, but first some info.

Kajol Devgn, known mononymously as Kajol, is an Indian actress appearing in Hindi and Tamil films. She has received six Filmfare Awards, among eleven nominations and along with her late aunt Nutan.

Al Stewart - A Man For All Seasons.

What if you reached the age of reason
Only to find there was no reprieve
Would you still be a man for all seasons?
Or would you just have to leave
We measure our days out
In steps of uncertainty
Not turning to see how we've come
And peer down the highway
From here to eternity
And reach out for love on the run
While the man for all seasons
Is lost behind the sun

Henry Plantagenet still looks for someone
To bring good news in his hour of doubt
While Thomas More waits in the Tower of London
Watching the sands running out
And measures the hours out
From here to oblivion
In actions that can't be undone
A sailor through the darkness
He scans the meridian
And caught by the first rays of dawn
The man for all seasons
Is lost beneath the storm

And I should know by now
I should know by now
I hear them call it out all around
Oh, they go
There's nothing to believe in
Hear them,
Just daydreams, deceiving
They'll just let you down

What if you reached the age of reason
Only to find there was no reprieve
Would you still be a man for all seasons?
Or would you just disbelieve?

We measure our gains out in luck and coincidence
Lanterns to turn back the night
And put our defeats down to chance or experience
And try once again for the light
Some wait for the waters of fortune to cover them
Some just see the tides of ill chance running over them

Some call on Jehovah
Some cry out to Allah
Some wait for the boats that still row to Valhallah
Well, you should try to accept what the fates are unfolding
While some say they're sure where the blame should be falling
You look round for maybe a chance of forestalling
Bot too soon its over and done
And the man for all seasons
Is lost behind the sun

edgar, thanks for your comment. Hmmm. Didn't know that one by the original Carter Family. Just noticed that they were from Southwest Virginia. Didn't know that either. Thanks for the memory jog.

Well, That was quick, Brit. Al Stewart's a Man for All Seasons is a dedication to Thomas More. Studied him when I took Western Civilization classes.

Here's something that I didn't know The Carter Family sang.

I used to think that was: "In the Mines".

I don't think anybody kows fully the origin of In the Pines. It has been recorded by dozens of artists. Leadbelly called it variously My Girl and Black Girl. The Carter family song I played was later recorded by Elvis Presley.

Thanks, Brit for your tribute to Freddie Mercury. Very sad to me.

edgar, I knew that the king had done that, and thanks for your explanation on the pine song.

Love King Creole by the king.

Dylan news.

Road warrior Dylan is at it again.

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Fifty years into his career as a recording artist and a week away from release of an extraordinary new CD, Bob Dylan spent his Tuesday evening where he seems to feel most comfortable _ on a stage.

In this case, he marked the grand reopening of a refurbished theater in a gritty village 35 miles northeast of New York City.

At 71, the renowned songwriter is a road warrior. Tuesday was his 50th gig out of 87 scheduled this year, a schedule that has seen him play a brewery in Missoula, Mont.; a baseball field in Fort Wayne, Ind.; and an amphitheater

Saying good night with two songs.

First Willie and Bob.

Now, Johnny Mathis who voice always amazes me.

Great to have Dublin, London, and Canada with us today.

From Letty with love to everyone, everywhere.

Well of course, I always like Willie and Johnny and Bob. Three great artists, for their own qualities. Time for me to get to bed. Good night.

@Letty,
Here is a classic from the 1980's. The singer, Mick Hucknall, has a great voice.

@wandeljw,
Welcome back, wandeljw. You sent me searching, buddy.

Simply Red were a British soul band that sold more than 50 million albums over a 25-year career. Their style drew influences from blue-eyed soul, New Romantic, rock, reggae and jazz

They were truly good, and Holding Back the Years reminded me of this one.

The beautiful Norah Jones did a lovely version of Dolly Parton's Jolene.

(Trivia: Norah Jones' father is the legendary Ravi Shankar.)

Fantastic job by Norah Jones doing Jolene, wandel. Ravi Shankar's daughter? Wow!

That gives me an excuse to replay this one that many folks here missed.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I think that I like Cold, Cold heart better by Hank.

Never heard China Doll by the Ames Brothers. Love it, Texas.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two versions of the same song.

First, The Mills Brothers.

Now, dear Nat.

Not feeling so jolly, either.

From Letty with love, as always
