Welcome back, Morgan. I like at Last by Etta, but why she wears that silly blonde wig, is more than I can understand.

@edgarblythe,
Didn't know Jimmy Brown the News Boy, edgar. I do recall Flatt and Scruggs doing Wild Wood Flower, however. Thanks for your comment.

Two versions of another Jimmy Brown. (this makes a few tears appear in my eyes)

First, The Little Sparrow, Edith.

This week herself and I went to see "The Jersey Boys" in a London theatre.

Great memories of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and a great show altogether.

Morgan, that was good advice from Pet.

McTag, I know Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, but not those songs. Thanks for the memory, buddy. They were great!

edgar, that song was hilarious, and you sent me searching, but now I've lost the info. Button Up Your Overcoat was an oldie but a goodie.

Welcome back, Brit. Loved Hong Kong mamba and the trio doing Living on the Outside.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First one by Sammy. Everyone thought that Mr. Bojangles was about Bill Robinson, but don't think that's true.

Now one by Michael. The original was by Vera Lynn and she's is still with us.

So wonderful having Dublin, Scotland, Ontario, and London with us today.

From Letty with love to everyone, everywhere

Kid Creole and the Coconuts is an American musical group created and led by August Darnell. Its music incorporates a variety of styles and influences, in particular "American and Latin American, South American, Caribbean, Trinidadian, Calloway"[1] and conceptually inspired by the big band era. The Coconuts are a glamorous trio of female backing vocalists whose lineup has changed throughout the years.

Hurry back, Barry. Loved Shawn's Knowing What I know Now as well as The Boxer by Mumford and Sons and Paul.

hbg, Thanks for the observation about Vera Lynn. Walter introduced me to her.

The Kingston Trio's MTA was great as was King Creole coconuts. Thanks also for the info.

Thinking about Martin Luther today. He never meant to leave the Roman Catholic Church, just reform it.

wishing you all a good sunday - quite a few birthdays to celebrate today .
let's start with PORTER WAGENER - singing here with DOLLY :

Quote:
Porter Wayne Wagoner (August 12, 1927 – October 28, 2007) was a popular American country music singer known for his flashy Nudie and Manuel suits and blond pompadour. In 1967, he introduced a then little known Dolly Parton on his long-running television show, and they were a well-known duet throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. Known as Mr. Grand Ole Opry, Wagoner charted 81 singles from 1954–1983. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

@hamburgboy,
hbg, Didn't know that one by Dolly and Porter, but it was a good one. Here's one to match by a famous trio.

Actually, I like it better by Jimmie Rodgers, but couldn't find a good rendition.

Good morning. I really like Porter and Dolly and Jimmy Rodgers and the Kingston Trio. All goodies. Stormy Weather too. The World I Used to Know was written by Jimmie Rodgers and was to me his best song.

This song is about the movie of The Grapes of Wrath, not the novel. There are significant differences. Both tell a harrowing story.

........................................................
it's also the birthday of BUCK OWENS ( and they are going to put him in the movies Laughing ) .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOpgL4mqEis

Quote:
Alvis Edgar Owens, Jr. (August 12, 1929 – March 25, 2006), better known as Buck Owens which then was one of the most enthusiastic musicians in country music history, was an American singer and guitarist who had 21 No. 1 hits on the Billboard country music charts with his band, the Buckaroos. They pioneered what came to be called the Bakersfield sound—a reference to Bakersfield, California, the city Owens called home and from which he drew inspiration for what he preferred to call American music.[1]

While Owens originally used fiddle and retained pedal steel guitar into the 1970s, his sound on records and onstage was always more stripped-down and elemental, incorporating elements of rock and roll. His signature style was based on simple storylines, infectious choruses, a twangy electric guitar, an insistent rhythm supplied by a drum track placed forward in the mix, and high two-part harmonies featuring Owens and his guitarist Don Rich.[2]

Beginning in 1969, Owens co-hosted the TV series Hee Haw with Roy Clark. He left the cast in 1986. In 1974, the accidental death of Rich, his best friend, devastated him for years and abruptly halted his career until he performed with Dwight Yoakam in 1988. Owens died on March 25, 2006 shortly after performing at his Crystal Palace restaurant, club and museum in Bakersfield.

Owens is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
