@Barry The Mod,
Probably the only track of theirs I genuinely like. Did you know how they got their name? Me either, but I always thought it was a piss take of the name of the band they were in previously that crashed and burned Mississippi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mississippi_(band)

Wikipedia says they got Little River from a town outside Geelong - but I reckon the irony of coming from a failed Mississippi wasn't lost on them...

today is the birthday of Alison Krauss - in a wonderful performance with a gospel choir - i'm sure Msletty is going to love this song .

Alison Maria Krauss (born July 23, 1971) is an American bluegrass-country singer, songwriter and fiddler. She entered the music industry at an early age, winning local contests by the age of ten and recording for the first time at fourteen. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album in 1987. She was invited to join the band with which she still performs, Alison Krauss and Union Station (AKUS), and later released her first album with them as a group in 1989.

Good early morning, WA2K folks.

hbg, Loved Sam (artful dodger) Consider Yourself at Home, and Spike Jones Hawaiian War Chant was funny.

As you know, Ontario, I Love Down to the River to Pray. It was from O Brother Where Art Thou.

MacTag, Razz Welcome back. Great one by Buddy Rich. Didn't recognize any of the songs from West Side Story, however. Just read where a cabbie jumped off a bridge to protest their ban at The Olympics.

Two songs for the early morning.

First, a tribute to a great man.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEq62iQo0eU&feature=related

Now, more synchronicity, as here is a tribute to a lady who is still a history mystery.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCy72IXaKss&feature=related

hingehead, welcome back to you as well, and we'll have to await Barry to respond.

@Barry The Mod,
You sent me searching again, Brit.

Jimmy Scott, aka "Little" Jimmy Scott, is an American jazz vocalist famous for his unusually high contralto voice, which is due to Kallmann's syndrome, a very rare genetic condition.

Motherless Child I know, and although the sound was a bit weak, he is great. Thanks again for restoring our signal. Tell the flower lady a big lusty hello from all of us on WA2K radio.

I was thinking about Lost Horizon today, and found two versions of the movies, made from the book.

The first one was awful, because when the plane crashed, the passengers soon realized they were not in Utopia. When they tried to leave, all aged horribly.

Here's the trailer for the remake.

@Barry The Mod,
Love the theme, Brit, but I'll bet Alex Baldwin is sorry that he resurrected that old shade. (psst, be sure and check out Lost Horizon)

Robert Louis Stevenson wrote a shadow for kids. " I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me..but what can be the good him him is more than I can see. He's very, very like me from my feet up to my head, and I see him jump before me as I jump into my bed." Razz

Another two shadows.

Walking over to the Science Desk for some sad news -

Sally Ride, a physicist and former NASA astronaut who made history by becoming both the youngest American astronaut and the first American woman in space – died Monday after a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 61.Sally Ride became part of NASA’s 1978 astronaut class and went on to take two trips into space on board the space shuttle Challenger – the first in 1983 and again in 1984.

@Barry The Mod,
Ah, That's too bad about Sally Ride, Brit. Another tragedy was Christa McAuliffe who was the first teacher in space. As you know, a defective O-ring called the Challenger to explode right after lift off.

Loved your Mustang Sally.

When you get the opportunity, check out the other music.

Here's another mystery.

Although I did some research on the mystery ship, there was nothing conclusive.

Reyn, your opening showing the cat and the bird was funny. Loved the ensuing music by the various birds and flowers. So soothing, Canada.

edgar, I understand the complications of commenting on each song.

Don't know We Five and You Were on My mind, but it reminded me of this one.

More synchronicity, because Willie is going to do an old railroad revival tribute. Check it out on USA today.

edgar, thanks for that comment on Willie.

The Ghost of Robert E. Lee was also good and tells a story.

"With all my devotion to the Union and the feeling of loyalty and duty of an American citizen, I have not been able to make up my mind to raise my hand against my relatives, my children, my home. I have therefore resigned my commission in the Army, and save in defense of my native State, with the sincere hope that my poor services may never be needed, I hope I may never be called on to draw my sword....." Lee in a letter to his sister, April 20, 1861

Reyn, Yep, I could hear you just fine. Great one by Enrique, buddy.

We all know there are two sides to every story, right?

Joan was criticised by some because she changed "mud below my feet" to "blood below my feet" in that song. Never bothered me. I love it by both her and also The Band.
