William Shakespeare

Under the greenwood tree
Who loves to lie with me,
And turn his merry note
Unto the sweet bird's throat,
Come hither, come hither, come hither:
Here shall he see
No enemy
But winter and rough weather.

Who doth ambition shun,
And loves to live i' the sun,
Seeking the food he eats,
And pleas'd with what he gets,
Come hither, come hither, come hither:
Here shall he see
No enemy
But winter and rough weather.

This song combines Shakespeare and Lewis Carroll.

edgar, I don't know that poem by Shakespeare. Donovan does a great job of combining Lewis Carol and Shakespeare. Odd that Donovan is Scotish, because MacBeth killed the king of Scotland.

hbg, Welcome back to you as well. Love It Must Be Him by Vikki.

Itzhak Perlman's Gypsy Airs is wonderful, as well as Tabor and the fantastic dancing.

My favorite soliloquy from MacBeth which is my most treasured Shakespearean play.

Flaws in the history of MacBeth.

Macbeth was immortalised in the play by William Shakespeare although the play is historically inaccurate. In Shakespeare's play, Macbeth is portrayed as a good-hearted general when he was ruler of Moray to King Duncan, but is manipulated by his wife Lady Macbeth and three witches into becoming a villainous, depressive maniac haunted by the murder of Duncan. In fact Macbeth had as much right as Duncan to the throne and ruled successfully for 17 years. He was generous friend of the church and reported to have made a pilgrimage to Rome in 1050 where he gave money to the poor.

I saw a wonderful version of Macbeth done for TV many years ago. I would love to recall the actors so I could watch it again.
Vikki Carr is a fine singer.

Jumping over to the Fashion Desk -

600-year-old linen bras found in Austrian castle.
http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af138/barrythemod/To%20Forward/1436578h425pd1mxw620.jpg
A revolutionary discovery is rewriting the history of underwear: Some 600 years ago, women wore bras.

The University of Innsbruck said Wednesday that archeologists found four linen bras dating from the Middle Ages in an Austrian castle. Fashion experts describe the find as surprising because the bra had commonly been thought to be only little more than 100 years old as women abandoned the tight corset.

Also found at Lemberg Castle in Tyrol was a linen undergarment that looks very much like a pair of panties. But Nutz said it is men's underwear — women did not wear anything under their flowing skirts back then.
"Underpants were considered a symbol of male dominance and power," she said. Medieval drawings often show a man and a woman fighting for a pair of underpants in a symbolic battle to see who "wears the trousers" in the family.

Back to the music....
