@edgarblythe,
Thanks, edgar, for not only restoring our signal, but for your comment on Johnny and Bobby. Our Brit did a different version which was good as well.

Love Gentleman Jim's version of May the Good Lord Bless and Keep you.

Two songs for the afternoon here. First a tribute to a birthday man. Odd, no? Jennette's natal day was last month and Nelson's is this month.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the comment and well wishes, edgar. You sent me searching again.

Gary Gene Watson (born October 11, 1943) is an American country singer. He is most famous for his 1975 hit "Love in the Hot Afternoon," his 1982 hit "Fourteen Carat Mind," and his signature song "Farewell Party." Watson's long career has notched six number ones, 23 top tens and over 75 charted singles.

Great one, Texas, and thanks for the introduction.

Speaking of funny, when Carrie and I discovered a diamond back rattler in my garage, I thought of this one.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your acknowledgement, edgar. I do know Frankie and Johnny were Lovers, but didn't know The Man in Black did it.

Just a little history on John Henry.

"Big Bend" is a name for a section of the Greenbrier River where the river literally makes a big bend around Big Bend Mountain. The distance around this u-shaped bend in the river is about a eight miles. At this point, The C&O's surveying crew chose to avoid this lengthy bend by building a tunnel through the mountain.

There was a big statue of John Henry right outside that tunnel.

We used to drive through that tunnel on our way to The Greenbrier Hotel.

Now, how about a mining song.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! Didn't know that about Floyd, edgar, thanks for the info.

Don't know Bobby Scott's Chain Gang, but as you know, I love the originals.

Remember that one best by Sam Cooke . Poor guy

Saying goodnight with two songs.

First, The Russian Version of Midnight in Moscow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtoUoms4Jo0&feature=related

and, the English lyrics.

Stillness in the grove
Not a rustling sound
Softly shines the moon clear and bright
Dear, if you could know
How I treasure so
This most beautiful Moscow Night

Lazily the brook like a silvery stream
Ripples in the light of the moon
And a song afar fades as in a dream
In this night that will end too soon
Yes a song afar fades as in a dream
In this night that will end too soon

Dearest, why so sad, why the downcast eyes
And your lovely head bent so low
Oh, I mustn’t speak, though I’d love to say
That you’ve stolen my heart away

Promise me my love, as the dawn appears
And the darkness turns into light
That you’ll cherish dear, through the passing years
This most beautiful Moscow Night

Say you’ll cherish dear through the passing years
This most beautiful Moscow Night

Now, the first one that I heard by Van the Man.

Well, we know that two of our Georges are alright, but not one thing from euroGeorge.

Ah, it's a feel good Friday so everyone is off having fun without us.

Nevertheless,

hbg, I love Anne's violin and the Hungarian Rhapsody. Glad that I caught you before you retired.

edgar, Loved your goodnight song by Johnny

Old Blue Eyes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxCi0CZnUIY

and, our poem for today.

Steam Shovel

The dinosaurs are not all dead.
I saw one raise its iron head
To watch me walking down the road
Beyond our house today.
Its jaws were dripping with a load
Of earth and grass that it had cropped.
It must have heard me where I stopped,
Snorted white steam my way,
And stretched its long neck out to see,
And chewed, and grinned quite amiably.

I have seen movies and cartoons depicting steam shovels as prehistoric-like animals.
The Frank song was new to me.
I love a good violin, hbg.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for your comments, edgar, and you sent me searching again.

Is this your Jimmie?

James Houston "Jimmie" Davis (September 11, 1899 – November 5, 2000) was a noted singer of both sacred and popular songs who served two nonconsecutive terms as the Governor of Louisiana (1944–1948 and 1960–1964). Davis was a nationally popular country music and gospel singer from the 1930s into the 1960s, occasionally recording and performing as late as the early 1990s. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

I know the song, buddy.

Another Jimmie that most of us know. My favorite by him is The World I Used to Know.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I know the song Corrina, but not the vocalist. Ray was good, buddy.

Here's another birthday man.

Leonard Whiting (born 30 June 1950) is a British actor who starred as Romeo in the 1968 Zeffirelli film version of Romeo and Juliet opposite Olivia Hussey's Juliet, a role which earned him the Golden Globe Award for New Star Of The Year - Actor.

Had no idea the man did Poe.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izf_qUxYhEY&feature=related

Another mystery that will never be resolved. How Poe died.
