@edgarblythe,
I was the first baby in my family to be born in a hospital, edgar.

Love that King Cotton by John Philip Sousa.

He originally wrote Semper Fidelis.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar, love that drunken sailor song by The Irish Rovers. Somehow, the sailor song also reminded me of The Thief of Bagdad, remember that oldie?

Well, I'm saying goodnight with two songs.

First a prayer based on The Grims Brother's fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel. When I was little and read that story, I couldn't believe that parents would leave their children to starve in the black forest.

Now, one I love by Stephen Foster.

Hope all is well in Canada and Dublin. Good to have London with us today.

From Letty with love to the world.

Odd that they can take a grotesque story like Hansel and Gretel and make such beautiful music.
I love Stephen Fosters music.

good evening msletty , ed and all listeners !
sorry for the absence ... trying to make up for it .
came across this old Skitch Henderson recording : CURACAO .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHlthPNtUs4&feature=related

we saw and heard him and his fine band twice ; first in chicago - at one of those summernight concerts on the waterfront , and some years later when he brought his band to Toronto to the annual C.N.E. ( canadian national exhibition - held every year in august ) .

Good morning WA2K folks.

Hurry back dear edgar, and thanks again for your comment. Loved Gene's Tower of Strength and Stormy. Didn't know either of them so thanks for the introduction.

hbg, I am so happy that you are alright. Found out that Skitch Henderson was arrested for income tax evasion. Wow! Don't know Caracao, but it was lovely.

The Very Thought of You, I do know and it was lovely, Ontario.

Two songs for the morning here.

First, Mary. (love that one by Ed)

Now, let's Strike up the Band.

Ed Ames has been a favorite of mine most of my life. Did not pay much attention to the TV series, in which he played Mingo. But he is a wonderful singer.
Strike up the Band - not bad.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for restoring our signal, edgar, and your comments are always appreciated.

For a moment, I thought that Lola might be the one from Damn Yankee, so I went searching and found this.

Lola Jean Albright (born July 20, 1925, Akron, Ohio) is an American singer and actress.

Albright worked as a model before moving to Hollywood. She began her motion picture career with a bit part in the 1947 film The Unfinished Dance, and followed it (after several unbilled parts) with an important role in the acclaimed 1949 hit Champion. For the next ten years, she appeared in secondary roles in over twenty films, including several 'B' Westerns. Albright also acted in guest roles on several television series.

Love the song, I've Got a Crush on You.

Here's the perfect song for today.

@Barry The Mod,
Welcome back, Brit. Couldn't get your song by The Minders to play here. I did find one by them called Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Until we get it sorted, how about Ray and Sir Elton.

Curtis Mayfield - Here But I'm Gone.

How did I get so far gone
Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
Porched up in a rocking-chair
With my feet all bare
Rolling my blunt in a cigar wrap
Live an adolescent mind
never do take the time
Waiting for my high, quiet as it's kept
How did I get so far gone
Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
Mama told me I was best
Argue and punch in my chest
Son now be strong, let me take you home
I'd see in her eyes so sincere
Screaming, what got me here
Standing in the world and with my mind all blown
How did I get so far gone
Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
How did I get so far gone
Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
I do nothing but waste all my time
Leaving the world behind
Smoking my crack just to keep me high
Around the boys I play my part rough
Keep myself tough enough
Never to cry
Don't really want to die
How did I get so far gone
Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
How did I get so far gone
Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone..............

I was surprised the Lola Albright bio did not mention that she played Peter Gunne's girlfriend, alongside Craig Stevens.

@Barry The Mod,
Ah, Brit, I'm sorry as well. I did let Sir Elton and Ray say it for me.

Well, you sent me searching again, London.

Curtis Lee Mayfield (June 3, 1942 – December 26, 1999) was an African-American soul, R&B, and funk singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his anthemic music with The Impressions during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and for composing the soundtrack to the blaxploitation film Super Fly.

Here But I'm Gone was great.

Anyone remember The Mammas and The Papas? Here a tribute to the last surviving member.

edgar, Need to check out Lola again, I guess
