Good morning. Elvis and Priscilla were interesting, each in their own right. The Alice Benbolt would fit on the other thread, I think. Good by Beverly, hbg.

I had forgotten about Beverly Sills, hbg. What a great voice she had, and thanks for the memory.

edgar, Thanks for your comment once again. Will most certainly put Alice on your wonderful forum concerning songs that tell stories.

A couple of birthdays for today.

First, Tom T. Hall.

Usually I remember the music and not the name, but today is different. I recall Leslie Uggams, and it's her birthday.

She and Tom sing the theme from the movie Romeo and Juliet.

I remember watching Leslie Uggams on TV with Mitch Miller and the gang. She was the frequent soloist.
I love most of Tom T's music too.

Thanks again for your comments, edgar. Didn't know The Landlord by "the jester", so thanks for the introduction.

Welcome back, Brit. Leave it to The Beach Boys to remind us there's music in the air via radio. Love it!

Hmmm. How old is the London Bridge? Today, The Golden Gate Bridge is 75 years old.

Sing it, Al.

@edgarblythe,
Dear Freddy, edgar. I remember that best by Bobby Vinton, but I like it better by the Fender man.

Here's another Rose, and I think most of us know who this was for.

Moving over to the London History desk -
The original Mk 1 medievil bridge was built around 1176 and lasted for over 600 years....
http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af138/barrythemod/To%20Forward/850px-London-bridge-1682.jpg

But due to the increasing traffic and it's delapidation,it was replaced by London Bridge Mk 2 which opened in 1831....
http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af138/barrythemod/To%20Forward/785px-London_Bridge_28Cornell_Unive.jpg

which we sold ( snigger,snigger) to a Mr Robert P McCulloch for just under two and a half million $.It was shipped out to Arizona and now spans Lake Havasu....

Snigger,snigger.Mr McCulloch thought he was buying this.....TOWER BRIDGE....
http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af138/barrythemod/To%20Forward/800px-Tower_bridge_London_Twilight_.jpg

which opened in 1894 and is a jewel in London's crown.

This is what London Bridge Mk 3 looks like,which opened in 1973....

@Barry The Mod,
The Rose has been done by many artists. I think in the end, Bette's is one of the very best versions. London Bridge is a fun song regardless of the dire message.
Speaking of dire messages, here is George Jones

Brit, you and I have discussed the sale of that bridge to the mogul who thought he was buying the crown of London. Also know all of those nursery rhymes. Used to sing them to my kids. Scotland's Burning is a round. Know what that it?

I'm certain that edgar knows this, but Jack the Ripper came across that bridge and his existence is still a mystery. I still have my London Fog mac as you Brits call it.

Love George Jones' He Stopped Loving Her Today, and thanks for your comments.

Here's a great jazz version of the fog that condenses from The Thames.

@edgarblythe,
I love Buddy Greco's version of Around the World. I didn't see the movie, but I remember the music.

Saying goodnight now.

First a funny by Ogden Nash.

The Camel

The camel has a single hump;
The dromedary, two;
Or else the other way around.
I'm never sure are you?

and to match Buddy Greco, how about Jose Greco.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D3g1ZvR1io

Had no idea that he was in that movie.

and, older version of The Desert Song.

So great to have London and Ontario with us today. Maybe Scotland's Buring will coax McTag in here.

From Letty with love to everyone

When I was young I did not appreciate Gordon McCrea, but I love his performances these days.

Brass bands can be versatile, too. Here's a top British band letting its hair down.
