@edgarblythe,
Same here, edgar. Never paid any attention to the actors or actresses until later in life. What a tragic death Tony had. I recall from that movie Houdini escaping from under an ice covered body of water. There was a hole in the ice, but he couldn't find it until he heard his mother call his name. She had died and saved his life. Some people think Houdini was murdered. We'll never know, of course.

Love the Charlie Daniels Boogie Woogie Fiddle Country Blues, and the visuals were fantastic.

Today is this Irish lady's birthday, so let's listen to her do her thing. Just found out this bit of news about The Corrs.

The Corr siblings were awarded honorary MBEs in 2005 by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of both their musical talent and their charitable work raising money for Freeman Hospital in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, victims of the Omagh Bombing, and other charities.

Oops, missed your Judy Collins song. Back later to acknowledge, Texas.

@edgarblythe,
Great one by Eddie Vedder, edgar, and thanks again for your comment on what we play here. Didn't know that The Fab Four did that song, however.

Today is Steve McQueen's birthday. Remember him?

Here's a tribute to the man.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar, Loved Teach Me Tonight by Dinah. That brings back some memories for this former teacher.

I had forgotten that Steve did the original Thomas Crown Affair, so here's another memory.

@eurocelticyankee,
My word, euro. You sent me searching once again.

The The are an English musical and multimedia group that have been active in various forms since 1979, with singer/songwriter Matt Johnson being the only constant band member.

Laurel and Hardy were hilarious. Been watching lots of the old classics on TCM.

Do you know this guy, Ireland?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlFYDMjb3ko&feature=related

Discovered him by accident when I was searching for Sir Thomas Moore's The Minstrel Boy. Judy Collins' song ended with that bit of the poem.

@Letty,
Miss Letty, I have never heard tell of Charlie Zahm and possibly would not admit to it if i had. Smile
But Thomas Moore....I do like.

Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms,
Which I gaze on so fondly to-day,
Were to change by to-morrow, and fleet in my arms,
Live fairy-gifts fading away,
Thou wouldst still be adored, as this moment thou art,
Let thy loveliness fade as it will,
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart
Would entwine itself verdantly still.

It is not while beauty and youth are thine own,
And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear,
That the fervor and faith of a soul may be known,
To which time will but make thee more dear!
No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets,
But as truly loves on to the close,
As the sunflower turns on her god when he sets
The same look which she turned when he rose!
Thomas Moore

On my car radio this morning (it was from the "Sounds of the Sixties" programme) I heard a song entitled My Two Arms Minus You Equals Tears.

How strange, never heard of that one before.

Quite good, too.

I didn't know him either, euro, nor St. Germain, so I decided to search it out once again.

St. Germain is the stage name of Ludovic Navarre, a French musician. His style has been described as being a combination of house and nu jazz music. Thanks for the introduction.

Welcome back McTag. Didn't know your group either. Is this the one?

It's not every day a band is born from a jam session, but, for The Bollox, it was the case. The Valley Celtic-rock band formed after Authority Zero singer Jason DeVore and former Last Action Zeroes drummer Keith Walker met up a little over a year ago to work together on songs.

Love to learn on our radio.

euro, here's the song that goes with your poem. His wife had smallpox, and he slipped the poem under her door where she had become reclusive as a result.

Why they ended that lovely song with a signature of outright evil, is weird.

McT,nice track by The Elgins.Not heard that one for ages.It had me dancin' around the kitchen.Good job no one could see me.Will e-mail you tomorrow about Whit Friday.
The Elgins were an American vocal group on the Motown label, active from the late 1950s to 1967. Their most successful record was "Heaven Must Have Sent You", written and produced by the Holland–Dozier–Holland team, which was a hit in the US in 1966, and in the UK when reissued in 1971.

Wow! our Brit was on a roll tonight. Loved all of your songs. Sleep well, and don't dance too much. Razz

hbg, Ella and Jimmy were fantastic. Loved both of their songs. Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey, and Old Man Time.

edgar, You know how I love Kenny Rogers, and You Are So Beautiful to Me was great. Yes, Sir Thomas Moore was wonderful as you know.

Going to say goodnight with two songs.

First, The Secret Garden, but first some info.

Secret Garden is an award-winning Irish-Norwegian duo playing New Instrumental Music, also sometimes erroneously known as Neo-classical music.

Secret Garden features the Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry and the Norwegian composer/pianist Rolf Løvland. The duo has sold over 3 million albums and won the Eurovision Song Contest for Norway's second time in 1995 with the composition "Nocturne"

Now, the song.

and, The Clancy Brothers.

The Clancy Brothers were an influential Irish folk music singing group, most popular in the 1960s, they were famed for their woolly Aran jumpers and are widely credited with popularizing Irish traditional music in the United States. The brothers were Patrick "Paddy" Clancy, Tom Clancy, Bobby Clancy and Liam Clancy. Paddy, Tom, and Liam are best known for their work with Tommy Makem, recording dozens of albums together as The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. They were a primary influence on a young Bob Dylan and on many other emerging artists.
