trying to " squeeze " her in before the day ends ( which won't be easy with that voice ! ) :

Sophie Tucker (January 13, 1886 – February 9, 1966) was a Russian/Ukrainian-born American singer and actress. Known for her stentorian delivery of comical and risqué songs, she was one of the most popular entertainers in America during the first half of the 20th century. She was widely known by the nickname "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas."

i think it's time to give an introduction to german band : " die toten hosen " .
Laughing
Quote:
Die Toten Hosen is a German punk band from Düsseldorf. They have enjoyed decades-long mass appeal in Germany.

The band's name literally means "The Dead Pants" (i.e. trousers) in English, although the phrase "tote Hose" is a German expression meaning "nothing going on" or "boring". Their name is figuratively best translated as "The Dead Beats".

and here is one of their songs ( i assume that you all know what jaegermeister is Drunk ) :

( it's friday night , so i hope i'll be forgiven .
btw. this band has been around for 20 years - so the members are no teenagers but aged " punkers " )

Going down by the river-side later today so I gotta climb the apples - with Mick and the boys....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDnZBvCetQM
Rolling Stones-Far Away Eyes.

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, "You know you always have the
Lord by your side"

And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you lord

I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there she'd be off
She'd be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes

So if you're down on your luck
And you can't harmonize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of Jesus
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got

So if you're down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Laters WA2K.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

I awakened in the middle of the night cold as could be. "...in the pines, in the pines, where the sun never shines and you shiver when the cold winds blow..."

hbg, the only thing that I remember about Sophie is that she sang God Bless America. (I think that was it)

Die Toten Hoffen was great. Of course you're forgiven. Everyone needs a little German pick me up once in a while.

Hurry back, Brit. Far Away Eyes was great, and inspired by your river side adventure.

Good morning. I appreciate Jack Jones and Elvis. Actually, my favorite version of Down By the Riverside was recorded by Charlie Rich. I like when Rod Stewart sings like that.

Come Saturday Morning was played repetitively throughout the film of Sterile Cuckoo. I enjoyed the film and love the song.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment, edgar. Love The Brothers Four's Yellow Bird.

Here's a different version of Patti Page's Mockingbird Hill. The gal, Domino, singing it is not that good, but let's listen anyway.

She does the Mockingbird Hill song fairly well, I think. Not that I would put it in my collection.

Ah, edgar, dear George Harrison. Don't know Every Grain of Sand, however.

How about Every Beat of My Heart.

Here is the original and in my opinion best version of Unchained Melody. (despite the fact I love Belafonte's record too)

@edgarblythe,
Didn't realize they would go down the line with great Unchained recordings, but I love them all.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Gene Pitney's Every Breath That I take was good, as was the different versions of Unchained Melody. I love them all, too.

So Beats my Heart? Jazz version plus lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln6yI-0elu4

As beats the ocean surf upon the sand,
so beats my heart for you.
For just as constantly as sea meets land,
so beats my heart for you.

I'll always be true, faithful to you,
Skies have been blue since you came in view.

As beats the rhythm of a mighty band,
so beats my heart for you, dear,
So beats my heart for you.

it's the birthday of Ben Heppner - canada's heldentenor . while he specializes in wagnerian roles , he can also sing very softly , such as this song : " Roses of Picardy " - quite amazing how he can change his voice - i guess that makes a truly great artist .
