@Letty,
it's gwen verdon's birthday today and she is celebrating it in style with help from a good friend :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4kLYjZB6Rc&feature=related

Quote:
Gwenyth Evelyn “Gwen” Verdon (January 13, 1925 – October 18, 2000) was an actress and dancer who won four Tony awards for her musical comedy performances. With flaming red hair and an endearing quaver in her voice, Verdon was a critically acclaimed dancer on Broadway in the 1950s and 1960s. She is also strongly identified with her second husband, director–choreographer Bob Fosse, remembered as the dancer–collaborator–muse for whom he choreographed much of his work and as the guardian of his legacy after his death.

@hamburgboy,
hbg, Thanks for the info on Gwen Verdon. I don't recall her, but that visual was fantastic. I do recall The Merry Widow Waltz, however, and Lana Turner. Need to check her out. Was Fernando Lamas the one who starred in Hernado's Hideaway? All three gone.

Well, folks, this guy is back in the news. I recall Return to Me after he left the XFiles. Don't remember much about the movie.

@hamburgboy,
Hi Folks,
Enjoyed the piece from The Merry Widow hbg, they do NOT make them like that anymore.
The scene from Porgy and Bess was brilliant Miss Letty, what a show.
Bewitched!, Ed how did you dig that up? Shocked I know the family of the twins very well. A real blast from the past!.

@eurocelticyankee,
Well, Irish, you sent me searching again. (thanks for your comments)

The Chi-Lites are a Chicago-based smooth soul vocal quartet from the early 1970s, one of the few from the period not to come from Memphis or Philadelphia. They were led by Eugene Record, and scored eleven Top Ten R&B hits from 1969 to 1974.

Loved Have You Seen Her by that group. Thanks for the introduction.

Here's another Bewitched, euroGeroge.

@Letty,
Hi Miss Letty, thanks for that nice Sinead song, she has been in the news again this and yet again for all the wrong reasons. She twittered looking for help from a psychiatrist, why she couldn't just pick up the phone and ring one instead of twittering it, who knows?, she believes she is out of control and needs help, I agree. Sad, but they say admitting you have a problem is a step in the right direction so hopefully she'll get the help she needs.

I liked the X-Files and I really liked a film called Return to Me that David Duchovny starred in though I haven't seen him in anything lately. I liked the music with that video, Sixpence None The Richer I believe singing Kiss me, great song.

Here are the Plain White T's.

@eurocelticyankee,
Thanks again, Irish, for the comments. You never cease to amaze me with your musical knowledge. Poor Sinead. What happens to people who are always in the limelight?

Loved Plain White T's Hey There Delilah. Don't know them, but they are truly good.

Here's on to match, euro.

Then, of course, there's Samson and Delilah.

euro, I always say what I mean and mean what I say. You are delightful. Love that remark about "the hair dresser".

Baby Come to Me by Patti and James is another duo that I don't know, but they were great. Thanks for the observance of the views, now if only I had that many dollars? Razz

hbg, Sorry, I still can't recall Gwen Verdon and the only thing that I remember about Ed Sullivan is something about "...a really big shoe.."

Funny about that name. I finally found out what it meant. Who's Got the Paine's Small Earth music is another I don't know, but I always love hearing the songs that are new to me.

How about Tunisia, yawl?

Bud used to play that solo on bass.

@edgarblythe,
Glad you aced it, edgar, and that Stephen Foster song by Hugh Laurie was funny. That guy is one great musician.

Here's a tribute to a man who died too soon and never lived in the South.

????????????????? - (Looking For) The Heart Of Saturday Night.

Well you gassed her up
Behind the wheel
With your arm around your sweet one
In your Oldsmobile
Barrelin' down the boulevard
You're looking for the heart of Saturday night

And you got paid on Friday
And your pockets are jinglin'
And you see the lights
You get all tinglin' cause you're cruisin' with a 6
And you're looking for the heart of Saturday night

Then you comb your hair
Shave your face
Tryin' to wipe out ev'ry trace
Of all the other days
In the week you know that this'll be the Saturday
You're reachin' your peak

Stoppin' on the red
You're goin' on the green
'Cause tonight'll be like nothin'
You've ever seen
And you're barrelin' down the boulevard
Lookin' for the heart of Saturday night

Tell me is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
Is it the barmaid that's smilin' from the corner of her eye?
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.

Makes it kind of quiver down in the core
'Cause you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before
And now you're stumblin'
You're stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night

Well you gassed her up
And you're behind the wheel
With your arm around your sweet one
In your Oldsmobile
Barrellin' down the boulevard,
You're lookin' for the heart of Saturday night

Is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
And the barmaid is smilin' from the corner of her eye
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.

Makes it kind of special down in the core
And you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before
It's found you stumblin'
Stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night
And you're stumblin'
Stumblin onto the heart of Saturday night

@Barry The Mod,
Hey, Brit. Looking For the Heart of Saturday Night was a good one but definitely not Tom Waits. His voice rather reminds me of Leonard Cohen.

@Barry The Mod,
Well, Brit, I really liked Big Joe Turner's Honey Hush. Don't know Cotton Eyed Joe by Adolph Hofner, but they were both good ones.

Ah, I've Never heard Nina sound better. Love that version of Cotton Eyed Joe.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall so with David Bowie.

Once again, it is great to have Ontario, Dublin, and London with us today.

From Letty with love to all
