richard tucker actually was a cantor before singing operas and operettas .
Quote:
As a teenager, Tucker's interests alternated between athletics, at which he excelled during his high-school years, and singing for weddings and bar mitzvahs as a cantorial student. Eventually, he progressed from a part-time cantor at Temple Emanuel in Passaic, New Jersey, to full-time cantorships at Temple Adath Israel in the Bronx and, in June 1943, at the large and prestigious Brooklyn Jewish Center. Until then, Tucker's income derived mainly from his weekly commissions as a salesman for the Reliable Silk Company, in Manhattan's garment district.
and richard tucker continued to sing " cantorial songs " :

I enjoyed Baldwin some years ago. Lately, I haven't seen him in anything I want to watch.

hbg, thanks for the memory of The Marx Brothers. I recalled The Lydia o Lydia, and hooray for Capt. Spalding.
edgar, JLL's version of Elvis' Don't Be Cruel was great. Timi Yuro's My Prayer was perfect.
Marx's Train Station reminded me of a song we used to sing as kids.
"Down at the station early in the morning, see the little puffer bellies standing in a row. See the little fireman turn his little handle. Chug chug, toot toot off we go."
Two songs for the early morning here. First Steely Dan.
Morning Ms Letty,Ed and all WA2K peeps.Sending Happy New Year greetings to one and all from a chilly London Town.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFfCdiNdIz4
Carole King - New Year's Day.
Great one by Carole, Brit, and Welcome back. We were concerned about you. "a Christmas Carole" is a great expression. Love her and here is one about jazz.
