I used to love The Jungle Book. I still love Kipling's writings, of Mowgli and such. I did not like the cartoon Disney did, but the trailer you just showed and Sabu were entertaining.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comments, edgar. Don't know Log Train by Hank, but here's a tribute to the man who was a poet.

The Germans are very fond of this, and the Scandinavians too I believe.

Love that guy, especially as Doc Holiday in Tombstone.

Now, one dedicated to Hugh Hefner as he's staring Playboy again. Cool

ah, flower lady, don't know that one, but I love the feel of the jazz. Reminded me of my husband's jazz quartet.

edgar, hurry back as I know Peter, Paul and Mary's That's What You Get For Lovin' Me.

Bet our McTag's know this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UAI2XObJPk&feature=related

That is what our quartet plus moi, sang at the end of the gig on New Year's Eve.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

Robert Burns

Well, I probably won't be able to stay up until twelve o clock to sing it with my daughter and the kid from Orlando, but I'll give it a try.

@edgarblythe,
You're funny, edgar, and once again you sent me searching.

Gary Gene Watson (born October 11, 1943) is an American country singer. He is most famous for his 1975 hit "Love in the Hot Afternoon," his 1982 hit "Fourteen Carat Mind," and his signature song "Farewell Party." Watson's long career has notched six number ones, 23 top tens and over 75 charted singles.

Farewell Party was great. My word, I just spotted Porter Wagoner. I recall your having said that Dolly Parton's song to him was I Will Always Love you.

Just noticed that Etta James is recovering. Glad to hear that.

Today is Odetta's birthday, and this one by her is fabulous.

@Letty,
driving along lake ontario this afternoon and listening to PBS .
and what do i hear ?
one of the best recordings of " the fledermaus " ( the bat ) with lily pons and richard tucker - eugene ormandy conducting .
it was recorded in new york in december 1950 .

so here is my major contribution to a2k's new year's eve celebrations .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B44oeqN2r60

Quote:
Lily Pons (April 12, 1898 – February 13, 1976) was a French-American operatic soprano and actress who had an active career from the late 1920s through the early 1970s. As an opera singer she specialized in the coloratura soprano repertoire . In addition to appearing as a guest artist with many opera houses internationally, Pons enjoyed a long association with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City where she performed nearly 300 times from 1931-1960.

Pons also had a very successful and lucrative career as a concert singer which continued until her retirement from performance in 1973. From 1935-1937 she made three musical films for RKO Pictures. She also made numerous appearances on radio and on television, performing on variety programs like The Ed Sullivan Show, The Colgate Comedy Hour, and The Dave Garroway Show among others. She made dozens of records; recording both classical and popular music. She was awarded the Croix de Lorraine and the Légion d'honneur by the Government of France.

Pons was also savvy at making herself into a marketable cultural icon. Her opinions on fashion and home decorating were frequently reported in women's magazines, and she appeared as the face for Lockheed airplanes, Knox gelatin and Libby's tomato juice advertisements. A town in Maryland named itself after her, and thereafter the singer contrived to have all her Christmas Cards posted from Lilypons, Maryland.

@hamburgboy,
hbg, welcome and Thanks for the info on Lily Pons. I love Strauss, Ontario, and that bat song was excellent. (I used to think that meant "mouse")

I know this one has English lyrics, but I can't find them.

Wanna waltz, hbg?

Love that one by Whitney, edgar, and thanks again for your comments. I recall your having told me that her song from The Body Guard was really done by Dolly to Porter. Don't over spend.

We'll dedicate this one to our Rockhead.

@Rockhead,
Well, Rock, you sent me searching.

Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in August 1968, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario. The band is composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. The band and its membership went through a number of re-configurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving their current form when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first United States tour. Very interesting take on Trees, buddy.

Don't forget, Paper covers rock. This is probably the worse video that I have ever seen and heard.
