we must not forget that today is the birthday of Earl " FATHA " Hines :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcHz_cjeqRU

Quote:
Earl Kenneth Hines, universally known as Earl "Fatha"[1] Hines, (December 28, 1903[2] – April 22, 1983) was an American jazz pianist. Hines was one of the most influential figures in the development of modern jazz piano and, according to one major source, is "one of a small number of pianists whose playing shaped the history of jazz".[3]

edgar, didn't know that one by "the jester".

Hey, Brit. Welcome back, and I see you still have a good sense of humor. Loved your remark about singing in a bar.

The Sandpiper by George Benson was great. (the shadow of your smile)

Time for me to say goodnight and although The King did this one as well, I ran across a new version by Ray Conniff. First some info on the man and his singers.

Conniff was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and learned to play the trombone from his father. He studied music arranging from a course book. After serving in the U.S. Army in World War II (where he worked under Walter Schumann), he joined the Artie Shaw big band and wrote many arrangements for him. After his stint with Shaw he was then hired by Mitch Miller, then head of A&R at Columbia Records, as their home arranger, working with several artists including Rosemary Clooney, Marty Robbins, Frankie Laine, Johnny Mathis, Guy Mitchell and Johnnie Ray. He wrote a top 10 arrangement for Don Cherry's "Band of Gold" in 1955, a single that sold more than a million copies.

Now the song of the islands but the original Aloha oe with words by Queen Liliuokalani

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHXzdOePpRc

Proudly swept the rain by the cliffs
As it glided through the trees
Still following ever the bud
The `ahihi lehua of the vale

Chorus:
Farewell to you, farewell to you
The charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers
One fond embrace,
'Ere I depart
Until we meet again

Sweet memories come back to me
Bringing fresh remembrances
Of the past
Dearest one, yes, you are mine own
From you, true love shall never depart

I have seen and watched your loveliness
The sweet rose of Maunawili
And 'tis there the birds of love dwell
And sip the honey from your lip

Nice to see London and Ontario with us today. Also thinking of the yitwails and Merry Andrew and sglass.

From Letty with love and thinking about Hawaii.

hbg, know every one of those songs except The Newfoundland Fisherman. Royal Canadians have always been good.

edgar, Thanks again for your comments, and Jennifer Juniper is one that I didn't know. You hurry back, Texas.

McTag, you missed our dedication to you by Michael Buble. Razz

Today is Jude Law's birthday and someone said that Lord Ellpus resembled him, so this one's for you, Pete, wherever you are.

Well, Rock, Rockin' at Midnight was a great one

edgar, Thanks for your comment and The Sea of Love was good as well.

You both sent me searching.

The Honeydrippers was a rock band of the 1980s. Former Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant formed the group in 1981 to satisfy his long-time goal in having a rock band with a heavy R&B basis. Formed originally in Worcestershire, the band went on to record an EP in the US. In addition to Plant, the band was composed of fellow former Led Zeppelin member guitarist Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck (a former Yardbirds member like Page) and other friends and well-known studio musicians.

and speaking of Led Zeppelin.

That's the only Led Zeppelin song I have ever cared about. It is brilliant.
The title, Stairway to Heaven, calls this to mind

Fantastic piece by Eward Elgar, edgar, and thanks again for your comment. Especially like the piano version.

I love Elgar, so here is Yo Yo Ma doing a beautiful cello piece by him.
