I can pop in occasionally to play a song. My eye still is healing, so not necessarily that often.

Thanks again to all of our contributors on WA2K radio.

edgar and Barry, I loved both Robert Thicke and The Band's Chest Fever. Thanks for the introduction.

wm, I've heard that version of Deep Purple, but I think I like the original better.

Two songs for the morning here. First, the first time that I ever heard this song was from the movie Evolution.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLgvvgcDDm8&feature=related

Now, in response to our Brit's Cutty Sark.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW9I46xwh4w&feature=related

and some info which I am certain that Barry already knows.

Tam o' Shanter is a wonderful, epic poem in which Burns paints a vivid picture of the drinking classes in the old Scotch town of Ayr in the late 18th century. It is populated by several unforgettable characters including of course Tam himself, his bosom pal, Souter (Cobbler) Johnnie and his own long suffering wife Kate, "Gathering her brows like gathering storm, nursing her wrath to keep it warm". We are also introduced to Kirkton Jean, the ghostly, "winsome wench", Cutty Sark and let's not forget his gallant horse, Maggie.

The tale includes humour, pathos, horror, social comment and in my opinion some of the most beautiful lines that Burns ever penned.

“Pleasures are like poppies spread
You seize the flower its bloom is shed
Or like the snow falls in the river
A moment white, then melts forever
Or like the Borealis race
That flit ere you can point their place
Or like the rainbow's lovely form
Evanshing amidst the storm
Nae man can tether time nor tide
The hour approaches, Tam must ride”
― Robbie Burns

I like the classic overture better, but I thought the version I played was cute

@edgarblythe,
I love Johnny Horton as you know, edgar, but I have never heard Whispering Pines by him. Great, and here's one to match. So calming.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the comment, edgar. I just love flute music.

Richard Tauber is one amazing vocalist. I could have sworn he was Italian, but I went searching and he's Austrian. All the Things You Are is a great song done by many artists.

Here's a birthday boy. I don't know him so I went searching again.

Jon Anderson (born John Roy Anderson on 25 October 1944) is an English singer-songwriter and musician best known as the former lead vocalist in the progressive rock band Yes. He is also an accomplished solo artist and has collaborated with artists such as the Greek musician Vangelis, among others.

This tribute to him is really wonderful.

@edgarblythe,
Don't know Jerry Fish nor the artist, edgar. Thanks for the introduction. Like the song, however.

I think the equipment in our studio may have gone on the blink for a moment or two. You can attempt to play that tribute to Jon again, if you so choose.

Today is George Bizet's birthday and here is one of my favorite songs from Carmen.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! I had no idea that John Denver did that one. He was fabulous on that guitar. Never heard the Bells of Rhymney. Glad that you got to hear Jon this time around and thanks for your comment on that one from Carmen.

Ah, remembering The Realm. Here is one to match by Phil Ochs, and I think most of us remember Poe.

I have Bells of Rhymney by Judy Collins. Just discovered John's version.
I have also an extensive collection of Phil Ochs, including the Bells. I think I prefer that poem as a song.

@edgarblythe,
I agree about Poe's poem. I was just surprised to find that it had been set to music.

Ah, Love Lifted Me by Kenny Rogers was great.

A lot of folks did this one, but although I like it best by Vaughn Monro, I thought the man in black might be perfect for the song and halloween, edgar.

I know this song is obscure, but I like it. Mr. Green

Danny Holien -- "Colorado" (1972)

Here's another song from the same year. This one's defintiely not obscure. Smile

The Allman Brothers Band -- "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" (1972)
