EL MATADOR
Jane Bowers/Irving Burgess
Aye, Torero, she is here. Aye, matador. I feel her eyes. They are wide with excitement and fear.
I feel her heart for it cries when the horns are too near.
I will bold, brave, and swift will I be and I will be numero uno, torero fino. She'll dream tonight of me.
Chorus:
Ole, ole, ole! (Husted!) Viva el matador! Ole, ole, ole! (Venga!) Viva el matador!
Aye, Torero, she is here. Aye, matador. I see her smile and I see there the reason she came.
Toro, come closer. Come here and I'll whisper her name.
You may be brave and as bold as you're black, but I will be numero uno, torero fino, toro come back.
Chorus)
Toro, aqui. Closer, closer, closer.

McTag, I recall bursting into laughter over that scene in Blazing Saddles. Mel Brooks had a wonderful way of putting political uncertainty into his films and exposing them for just what they were.

So great to see you back even at this hour. I recall breaking a thermometer on purpose just to see those little bits of silver skitter across the floor. Wonder how we ever made it out of childhood alive, and incidentally, Brit, everything we put in our mouths has been called dangerous to our health. edgar has one way around the problem Razz

With that ole, song, edgar, I am reminded of JLNobody's art exhibition. If anyone get's a chance please drop by and comment, ok?

Wasn't it Hemingway that wrote, DEATH IN THE AFTERNOON? I understand that his home in Cuba is in jeopardy. Frankly, there was something about Hemingway that never inspired me. Am I mad? <smile>

I can hear those four black guys doing a great jazz quartet version of .....

Verse:
My story is much to sad to be told
But practically everything leaves me totally cold
The only exception I know is the case
When I'm out on a quiet spree, fighting vainly the old ennui
Then I suddenly turn and see
Your fabulous face
Chorus:
I get no kick from champagne
Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all
So tell me why should it be true
That I get a kick out of you
Some like the perfume from spain
I'm sure that if I took even one sniff
It would bore me terrifically too
But I get a kick out of you
( some like the bop-type refrain )
( I'm sure that if, I heard even one riff )
( it would bore me terrifically too )
( but I get a kick out of you )
( some they may go for cocaine )
( I'm sure that if, I took even one sniff )
( it would bore me terrifically too )
( but I get a kick out of you )
I get a kick every time I see you standing there before me
I get a kick though it's clear to see, you obviously do not adore me
I get no kick in a plane
Flying too high with some gal in the sky
Is my idea of nothing to do
But I get a kick out of you

A Hard Day's Night
Beatles

It's been a hard day's night
And I've been working like a dog.
It's been a hard day's night,
I should be sleeping like a log.
But when I get home to you,
I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright.
You know I work all day
To get you money to buy you things.
And it's worth it just to here you say,
You're gonna give me everything.
So why on earth should I moan,
'Cos when I get you alone
You know I feel okay.
When I'm home everything seems to be right.
When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight, yeah.
It's been a hard day's night
And I've been working like a dog.
It's been a hard day's night,
I should be sleeping like a log.
But when I get home to you,
I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright.
So why on earth should I moan,

You know I feel okay.

Brook Benton
Walk On The Wild Side
Words and Music: by Mack David and Elmer Bernstein

Sinner, hear what I'm sayin'
Sinner, you've been swingin', not prayin'
One day of prayin' and six nights of fun
The odds against goin' to heaven, six-to-one

You walk on the wild side, the Devil is waitin'
He's waitin' to take your hand
You walk on the wild side, you're walkin' with Satan
Away from the Promised Land
One day of prayin' and six nights of fun
The odds against going to heaven, six-to-one

You better cross over, you better walk humble or you're gonna stumble
And Satan is waitin' to take your hand
You walk on the wild side, you walk on the wild side
Away from the Promised Land
One day of prayin' and six nights of fun
The odds against going to heaven, six-to-one

The odds against going to heaven six-to-one

Well, edgar, Brook and Elmer where right. Raise hell on Saturday, but go to church on Sunday and you'll never reap the whirlwind.

Stuff to do, listeners. Back later:

The movie producers first asked Ray Charles to do their theme to Walk on the Wild Side. When he declined, they went to Brook. Ray had said the song just wasn't him.

You know, edgar, and all. Some things are not"us", and often we have to decide exactly who we are. As Henry Fleming in The Red Badge of Courage" observed, "...we are an unknown quantity..."

And I am very glad that you commented, my friend. Talent and attempts at it, need to be recognized. I know that JL will be appreciative. When he posts an update on his exhibition, we'll let our listeners know.

Well, I must eat now. Having baked fish with clam stuffing. I certainly hope there's no mercury in it. <smile>

good evening WA2K, i'm here with you tonight to address the big issues, the questions that nobody else wants to ask, or for that matter answer

tonight i give you, who, what, when, where and why

Who Are You
The Who

Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?

I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said "You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away"

I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remember throwin' punches around
And preachin' from my chair

chorus:
Well, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
Tell me, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
'Cause I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)

I took the tube back out of town
Back to the Rollin' Pin
I felt a little like a dying clown
With a streak of Rin Tin Tin

I stretched back and I hiccupped
And looked back on my busy day
Eleven hours in the Tin Pan
God, there's got to be another way

(Chorus)

Who are you?
Ooh wa ooh wa ooh wa ooh wa ...

Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?
Who are you?
Who, who, who, who?

(chorus)

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees

I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still recieve your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

(chorus)

Empty Spaces
Pink Floyd

What shall we use to fill the empty spaces
Where waves of hunger gnaw
Shall we set out across this sea of faces
In search of more and more applause

Shall we buy new guitar
Shall we drive a more powerful car
Shall we work straight through the night
Shall we get into fights
Leave the lights on
Drop bombs
Do tours of the East
Contract diseases
Bury bones
Break up homes
Send flowers by phone
Take to drink
Go to shrinks
Give up meat
Rarely sleep
Keep people as pets
Train dogs
Race rats
Fill the attic with cash
Bury treasure
Store up leisure
But never relax at all

With our backs to the wall

When The Levee Breaks
Led Zeppelin

If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, [X2]
When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay.

Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, [X2]
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.

Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home,
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They got no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.

Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.

All last night sat on the levee and moaned, [X2]
Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home.
Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down....

Where Your Eyes Don't Go
They Might Be Giants

Where your eyes don't go a filthy scarecrow waves its broomstick arms
And does a parody of each unconscious thing you do
When you turn around to look it's gone behind you
On its face it's wearing your confused expression
Where your eyes don't go

Where your eyes don't go a part of you is hovering
It's a nightmare that you'll never be discovering
You're free to come and go or talk like Kurtis Blow
But there's a pair of eyes in back of your head

Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part that wonders
What the part that isn't thinking isn't thinking of
Should you worry when the skullhead is in front of you
Or is it worse because it's always waiting where your eyes don't go?

Where your eyes don't go a part of you is hovering
It's a nightmare that you'll never be discovering
You're free to come and go or talk like Kurtis Blow
But there's a pair of eyes in back of your head

Where your eyes don't go a filthy scarecrow waves its broomstick arms
And does a parody of each unconscious thing you do
When you turn around to look it's gone behind you
On its face it's wearing your confused expression
Where your eyes don't go

Axe Murderer Song
Camper Van Beethoven

Why do lovers park down deserted lanes?
near haunted houses & homes for the insane.
Like a deformed son who was locked in a shed
Later escaped when he chopped off their heads

Why do axe murderers only attack
when you're partially nude or you're taking a bath.
Tho there are times I feel softer than most
somedays like yogurt & some days like toast

Sorority girls & fraternity boys
Always deflowered. They're rich & they're spoiled.
So we never feel bad when Aunt Jenny, who's dead
surprises them lying on her wedding bed.

When we're making love now, I feel so exposed
Might you impale me or turn into those
Creatures that feed on the flesh of the living
They hide in the corn between June & Thanksgiving

Why do axe murderers only attack
when you're partially nude or you're taking a bath.

dj, you clever thing. Were you, perhaps, a newpaper reporter at one time? and that Axe Murderer song was sooooooo true. Just WHO would ever get themselves in those situations. <smile>

What would you do, listeners?

When was the last time that your heart was in your throat?

Where were you when the lights went out?

One more, and how do you do the things you do?

Things You Do Lyrics

You've got a smile so bright
You know, you could've been a candle
I'm holding you so tight
You know, you could've been a handle
The way you swept me off my feet
You know, you could've been a broom
The way you smell so sweet
You know, you could've been some perfume
Well, you could've been anything
That you wanted to and I can tell
The way you do the things you do
(The way you do the things you do,
The way you do the things you do)

As pretty as you are
You know, you could've been a flower
If good looks can cause a minute
You know that you could be an hour
The way you stole my heart
You know, you could've been a cool crook
And baby, you're so smart
You know, you could've been a schoolbook
Well, you could've been anything
That you wanted to and I can tell
The way you do the things you do
(The way you do the things you do,
The way you do the things you do)

Well, I will say goodnight with the following quote:

All of us get lost in the darkness
Dreamers learn to steer by the stars
All of us do time in the gutters
Dreamers turn to look at the cars
- - - Rush "The Pass"

Leonard Cohen
Is This What You Wanted

You were the promise at dawn,
I was the morning after.
You were Jesus Christ my Lord,
I was the money lender.
You were the sensitive woman,
I was the very reverend Freud.
You were the manual orgasm,
I was the dirty little boy.
And is this what you wanted
to live in a house that is haunted
by the ghost of you and me

Is this what you wanted ...

You were Marlon Brando,
I was Steve McQueen.
You were K.Y. Jelly,
I was Vaseline.
You were the father of modern medicine,
I was Mr. Clean.
You where the whore and the beast of Babylon,
I was Rin Tin Tin.

And is this what you wanted ...

And is this what you wanted ...

You got old and wrinkled,
I stayed seventeen.
You lusted after so many,
I lay here with one.
You defied your solitude,
I came through alone.
You said you could never love me,
I undid your gown.

And is this what you wanted ...

And is this what you wanted ...

I mean is this what you wanted ...

That's right, is this what you wanted ...

For msolga. Hey, Australia, I saw, SAW, the movie. Had no idea that it was Australian born.

For Australia:

Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching? is a national war memorial
song and a tribute to the ANZAC spirit of mateship, courage, and sacrifice.

The song is timeless and honours the memory of those who have died in the
service and defence of Australia in war.

The marching theme of the song is especially powerful and supports the
spirit of ANZAC Day.

The song does not glorify war or endorse conflict of any kind. The song
simply highlights the sacrifice of many Australians who died in the service
and defence of our country in war.

Surprised Oh, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

Letty, my dear, this was posted a while ago & I only just discovered it! Surprised

Would you believe I don't actually know that song? Embarrassed Perhaps because I'm not a BORN Australian, but an adopted one, via immigration. (as are so many of us in Oz! Very Happy )
But I'll tell you something: I have never felt so Australian in my life as I do here at A2K. It's something to do with communicating with folk from all over the world, I think ... You start to see yourself in quite a different context than you did before. So A2K has made me feel very Australian, rather than the transplanted European I'd sometimes felt like before ... Strange, isn't it?

Anyway, folks, pardon the digression. I just felt I'd like to respond to letty's post. Very Happy

Please continue!

Good morning, WA2K fans and listeners.

Wow! edgar, that was one powerful song! Hope our listeners enjoyed it.

Dear msolga. It is so good to see you back in our studios. I often forget that you are an Australian transplant, honey. We were discussing the movie SAW in another niche of our audience, and I thought perhaps you had seen it. Don't be a stranger, now.

It is my quiet time here and a very cool 72 degrees in my little area of Florida.

I feel a little bit left of center
but then again we've all been there before
Every time I see a lost cause coming
it's nothing less, nothing more
Every time I get lost in paradise
I find a way to screw it up somehow
It's not the way it's supposed to be
but it'll do for now

When you're right, you're right
Everything else in my life just might be wrong
You're wrong all the time

So far so good 'cause no one knows I'm faking
I wish I could show you the toll it's taking
Sometimes I live as if there's no tomorrow
So far so good

I better find a way to cross my fingers
half the luck'll get me twice as far
I'm sick and tired of coming up for air
it shouldn't be this hard
Every little bit'll help I wonder
if it's enough or did I cross the line
The kitchen counter is a bad reminder of a better time

When you're right, you're right
Everything else in my life just might be wrong
You're wrong all the time

So far so good 'cause no one knows I'm faking
I wish I could show you the toll it's taking
Sometimes I live as if there's no tomorrow
So far so good

When you're right
Everything else you messed up just might be wrong
You're wrong all the time

So far so good 'cause no one knows I'm faking
I wish I could show you the toll it's taking
Sometimes I live as if there's no tomorrow
So far so good.

Folks, have you ever wondered why a person crosses his fingers for hopeful outcomes?

Freddy Fender
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Freddy Fender, born Baldemar Huerta in San Benito, Texas on June 4, 1937, is a Tejano, country, and rock and roll musician, known for his work as a solo artist and in the groups Los Super Seven and the Texas Tornados.

Early Years

As a child, Baldemar and his parents travelled throughout the United States as migrant farm hands. At the age of 16, Baldemar quit school and started a three year hitch in the United States Marines. He returned to Texas and played bars and honky-tonks throughout the south, mostly to Latino audiences. In 1957, he released two songs to moderate success in Mexico and South America, Spanish versions of Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel", and Harry Belafonte's "Jamaica Farewell". In 1959, Baldemar changed his name to Freddy Fender. He took Fender from the headstock of his guitar, and Freddy because it sounded good to him. He then headed for California.

Initial Success

In 1959, Fender recorded "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights." The song became popular in 1960, but he was beset by legal troubles after he and a band member were arrested for narcotics possesion. After a two year prison term, Fender ended up in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he would spend the next five years.

By the end of the 1960s, Fender was back in Texas working as a mechanic, and attending a local junior college, while only playing music on the weekends.

Number One Pop and Country

In 1974, Fender recorded "Before The Next Teardrop Falls." The single was selected for national distribution, and became a number one hit on the Billboard Country and Pop charts. His next four singles, including a remake of "Wasted Days", all hit the number one spot on the Billboard Country charts.

Texas Tornadoes

In the 1990s, Fender teamed up with fellow Tex-Mex musicians Doug Sahm, Flaco Jimenez and Augie Myers to form the Texas Tornados, whose work was widely acclaimed. Following the death of Sahm, the production of the Tornadoes slowed.

Fender today

Most recently, Freddy Fender has signed a contract with a major label, and continues to sing, play and tour from his base in Texas.

Good morning, Bob. Thanks for that bio of Freddy Fender. I vaguely recall some of his tunes, "....the last teardrop..."

Incidentally, Boston. How went the karaoke last evening?

Well, folks, it's nice to see England and Canada here in our studios, perhaps Germany will check in later. Although msolga is not native born, she represents Australia here, now I'm beginning to wonder about France.

Anyone seen Francis lately?

Good Morning WA2K.

I hear music and there's no one there
I smell blossoms, but the trees are bare
All day long I seem to walk on air
I wonder why, I wonder why

I wonder if Letty wonders about everything. I think that's wonderful. I wonder if a long long time ago Christians had a secret sign - like crossing there fingers (sign of the cross) - a secret sign, because they didn't want to get caught by the Pagans and thrown to the hungry lions.

Good morning, Raggedy, and I smiled when I read your answer to the crossed fingers origin. You know, folks, it seems that every superstition has its roots in some type religion. I suppose that's to be expected.

Looking at the celebs, I realize that I don't really know Freddy Fender, and the photos help to clarify things.

I always thought that Bruce Dern was a great actor, and I recall his performance in HUSH, HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE. I don't believe that there is one actor/actress in that old movie that is alive today except Dern, but I'd have to check it out.

Ah, The Mamas and the Papas. I always enjoyed that group:

Monday, Monday, so good to me
Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday mornin', Monday mornin' couldn't guarantee

Monday, Monday, can't trust that day
Monday, Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way
Oh Monday mornin' you gave me no warnin' of what was to be
Oh Monday, Monday, how could you leave and not take me

Every other day, every other day
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
A-you can find me cryin' all of the time

Monday, Monday, so good to me
Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be
But Monday mornin', Monday mornin' couldn't guarantee
