Was sad to read recently that Sly Stone, one of the greatest artists in soul/funk history has fallen on hard times. Apparently he now lives in a van parked on a residential street in Crenshaw, a rough Los Angeles district....

Good morning, WA2K folks.

Love Tom, Dick, and Harry, edgar, and thanks again for your comments. Just a Country Boy by Harry was great. Didn't know that one. Like Texas said, wm, The Box Tops Neon Rainbow was a good one.

hbg, The Banana Boat song was the first one I heard by Harry. Looking back now, I realize what a great performer he was. Thanks for the food! yum.

Welcome back, Brit. Yep, You Don't Know Jack says it right. Alcohol is probably one of the most dangerous drugs out there, and it's legal.

We noted earlier about Sly Stone. How very sad and at least he's going into rehab, London.

Everyday People was a great one. Sly says that right.

edgar, hurry back, 'cause it's one of your favorite performers birthday.

Happy, happy, Jerry.

Just listened to Joan Baez do Jessee. Very sad and a great song by Janis Ian.

@Letty,
Good Day Miss Letty & all WA2K pop pickers.
Nice tribute to Jerry Lee, oh and enjoyed Ticket to the Moon
by ELO, I always played that one on the jukebox.
Enjoyed the two songs by Harry B, never heard of the Smothers brothers before?.
Liked The Box Tops WM.
I'm surprised to hear of Sly Stones troubles, last I heard he was making
a sequel to his last movie "The Expendables" which in itself was fairly
successful, it "actually" made money. I was reading he had Chuck Norris,
Arnie, Jean Claude Van Damme and others lined up for the sequel, ah well.

Haven't heard this lately, "Deep Forest --- Sweet lullaby"

@eurocelticyankee,
euroGeorge, thanks again for your comments and the news about Sly Stone. Hope it works out for the man.

That Deep Forest was completely captivating, Irish. The visuals were awesome as well, and you sent me searching again.

It was composed by two Frenchmen? One of which was...

Michel Sanchez who came up with the idea of mixing the native Baka pygmy spoken word with modern music after hearing on-site recordings of these tribes conversing. Along with Eric Mouquet they created the project Deep Forest. Their first self-titled album (nominated for a Grammy) was released in 1992, with "Sweet Lullaby" being the smash single which would put Deep Forest on the musical map (UK Top 10 hit). The song "Sweet Lullaby" is adapted from a traditional song from the Solomon Islands. The album Deep Forest was dance-driven and the samples were heavily digitised and edited. It was re-released as a limited edition in 1994 under the name World Mix

I know that I have played this before, but of all the seasons that I miss here, Autumn is the one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOsVVeojMZs&feature=related

and the lyrics by Johnny Mercer.

The falling leaves drift by my window
The falling leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all, my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

@eurocelticyankee,
I know Louie, Louie, Irish. Thanks again for your comment. Methinks there may be alternate lyrics to that song, buddy.

I cannot believe how long I have been searching for this poem, and at last I found it.

One by One

One by one,

Branch to branch,

Leaves topple.

ZigZag

Through motionless October,

Struggle,

Founder –

Golden Birds

With broken wings

-by Melville Cane 1879-1980

"golden birds with broken wings" is the most fantastic metaphor that I have ever heard.

Here's a great anthem, yawl.

I was confused too, Barry. How about Sylvester the pussy cat. Razz

Thanks, Irish, for your comments on The National Anthem of India. Surprised that our Brit didn't listen to that because he's been there with Penny.

euroGeorge, when that deep bass voice of one of The Temptations said, "...and the band played on..." It reminded me of this oldie.

@eurocelticyankee,
Hey, Irish, it's fun today on WA2K. I love that one by the kinks. Muddy old River. I never hear Waterloo that I don't think of Napoleon Bonaparte. It was the end of his reign, and when he was exiled to Elba, we were introduced to palindromes. Able was I ere I saw Elba.

Here's another Waterloo with the palindromic ABBA.

@edgarblythe,
That's a sad one by Joan, edgar. Deportees and no name is a phase we have to live with, I guess. We'll await our Irishman to explain your question and give you an answer. Thanks again for the comment on that Celtic woman.

This interested me, folks. I'll let you decide why.
